If a house is sold but still unoccupied, and some construction is not finshed, it may mean it was snapped up before the renovation work was done. A buyer who can afford a $1 million+ home is probably not in a desperate situation, and can wait before moving in.

Alison is not following basic safety rules and noise regulations shes also being sued for shoddy work. The homes in Chicago are very close together so its extremely disrespectful to start work before 8am and not consider people who may work late nights or have health issues that could affect their sleep! The homes are not selling because they are overpriced and the work is questionable.

It's not Alison who is producing shoddy work, no it is Donovan Eckhardt who is responsible as construction is his responsibility, aside from that he operates incommunicado with his partners and basically is a sly dog.

Im always surprise that in the US, building renovation always make so much mess !
Here in Japan, when a building is renovated it must be covered so the mess, the dust etc wont be flying around. And the cars going from the site must be hosed down to prevent the car from carrying the dust to the outside.

I used to love her until her ego got in the way. They forced a renter to relocate. And then referred to him as a squatter throughout her show. WTF, SMH.

Oh wow. It's their property. They needed to do the work and he needed to move out. To get the pain in the ass squatter out, it cost them 16k.
I've never pulled such bulshit. When I've needed to move, I moved.

@@miss_sunshine25 He was a renter with a lease. They bought the property out from under him and wanted him out immediately. Given his circumstances, I think he did quite well, and left the place in good condition. A renter they wanted to evict, not a squatter. Really rude the way they referred to him. They are taking someone's home away, have some respect for their situarion.

@@rhdtv2002 hence the word probably...the area is a good area and people want to be there or else the home would not be listed at 1 million dollars. Try listing a home in Englewood, neighborhood in Chicago, for 1 million dollars. Could not! Because the home values and interests to live there are not there so my point was if a million dollar home is being built in your neighborhood chill out about the workers starting at 7:55 am when the start time is 8:00 🙄

Says the person behind a computer screen who didn’t live there and wasn’t effected by it. How do you know it was 7:55 am ? You never know what someone else’s situation is!! The problem nowadays is no respects the next person and has this mentality of who cares and screw them. Sadly this has become the norm.

ANY construction is dirty, noisy and a pain in the bu--. But its the only way homes can be remodeled and updated. The entire neighbor benefits and your selling price goes up as a result.

I'm watching Windy City Rehab and I've been researching the problems that happened between Alison, Donovan, and the city of Chicago. According to buildings department records, “Windy City Rehab” projects violated city code by:
Working without permits at 11 different properties.
Working beyond the scope of pulled permits at 11 properties.
Failure to comply with safety codes related to issues such as electrical wiring. In early April, two different electrical code violations were issued at one property.
Failure to contact the city to obtain certificates of occupancy at two different properties.
Hiring workers who are not licensed, certified or registered by the city at 11 properties.
Lying on a permit application at 11 properties.
Failure to correct a substantial “defect, error or deficiency” at one property.
Performing work that poses an “immediate or imminent threat” to the safety of workers or the public at 11 properties.
This list is extensive. For Alison to go on TV and cry crocodile tears that she didn't know wreaks disingenuous to me. According to Alison she is "just the designer." She is just the designer visiting every property and she is not aware that she and Donovan hired workers who were not licensed and certified? Hogwash. Both Alison and Donovan were cutting corners to maximize profits and she knew what she was doing. Since Alison's name is tied to the LLC she is responsible for knowing. I don't doubt Donovan stole money but how could he steal over $800,000 and Alison not know about it? "He's the finance guy and I'm the designer" isn't going to cut it. Now that the owners from previous properties are suing Alison & Donovan for shoddy construction is again the fault of both. Alison was working without permits at 11 different properties. She can't feign naiveté. Alison was a willing a culpable party to the infractions. Alison and Donovan were penny wise but pound foolish and they got caught. Still, I hope that Alison will learn from her mistakes and that those workers whom have not gotten paid will be well compensated. Don't just think about yourself, Alison, think about all of the other people your misbehavior affected.

That's alot of violations! I was just watching Windy City Rehab reruns today and thinking how awful Donovan was and how Allison got duped. However, you're right, she had a responsibility to make sure all aspects of the job were handled correctly. If you're putting in that much money, wouldn't you want to account for every penny? Having said that, I love the show and her designs. I hope she gets her act together and comes back with another home design show.

@@newenglandlight8724 Yes, Allison got duped... but did she? Windy City Rehab is reality TV and Allison is very good actor. Read between the lines. Watch her exaggerated behavior. Was she really shocked or was she just pretending to be for ratings? Since this fiasco, Allison has gone on to anchor other HGTV shows. HGTV is culpable.
