I been to Kansas. Although it’s flat, it is essentially the base of the Rocky Mountains. If you go far enough west you can get over 1,000 meters above sea level, and will be exposed to a climate more similar to a desert than a forest. Also, the area near K-State is really pretty and has a huge lake
I watched this and was curious about how the Netherlands would measure up. Also, dutch pancakes are great. Not missing much. The syrup is what makes them. Just get some Maple Syrup.
Florida's Panhandle should be a bit shorter at 2:34 as it looks like yours is based off Spanish Florida. A part of West Florida became the southern coast of Alabama, which we see here as Floridian. Florida's highest point, Britton Hill, is actually within the Panhandle and less than a mile away from Alabama. It's a coastal plain but this part of the coastal plain has rolling hills. Heck, Central Florida can be hilly too! There's a place called Sugarloaf Mountain that offers views of Lake Apopka and has an elevation of 312 feet. Britton Hill may be the highest point, but Sugarloaf Mountain is Florida's most prominent point. Sugarloaf Mountain is the result of being on the Lake Wales Ridge which are ancient sand dunes (that were once islands) that extends 150 miles from Lake County in the north almost to Lake Okeechobee in the south. You can actually see the ridge from space! Today several areas of the Ridge are protected National Wildlife Refuges and State Forest. And it is an important habitat for Florida's only endemic bird, the Florida scrub-jay.
@@AlphaGeekgirl Spanish Florida is a former Spanish colony. I'm saying that this drawing of Florida is incorrect because the Panhandle is inaccurate and takes away Alabama's coast. The last time Florida's Panhandle was like this...was when Florida was Spanish
Kansas fun facts: Kansas has over 800 known caves! Pizza Hut was actually founded in Kansas when two students at Wichita University opened a small pizza shop on a corner in Wichita. The business was an instant hit, and soon after, a second location opened in Topeka and the rest is history. North America used to have 170 million acres of tallgrass prairie covering it. But, as people settled on the land, they removed the tallgrass prairie and converted it to farmland. Today there is only 4% of the original amount left, most of which is in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Sumner County is the wheat capital of the world! The county has over 318 thousand acres of land designated for growing wheat. There are nearly one thousand farms in the county in total
First question, what are you doing in Kansas? Second, Did you tried any other at IHOP than just pancake? Also, it would be easier to run marathon in Topeka than in Melbourne.

I guess I'm in the 23% then, because I was thinking Florida _had_ to be flatter. Though, another fun fact is that, despite Mount Everest and the Marianas Trench, the Earth as a whole is *still* smoother than a bowling ball.

Note that the cross-sectional computation of the pancake's flatness (at 0:53 ) includes the sharp "cliffs" at either end of the cross-section. But when we describe a pancake as "flat", we're not thinking of the edges, are we? I'd like to see this all recalculated by including only the part of a pancake that is thought of as flat--the top but not the edges.
During my two years living in Fort Lauderdale and working in Miami, I noticed how flat everything is, especially while driving on highway bridges and flyover ramps. Being from Ohio, where we have moderate hills, it felt strange to not see any steep climbs or cliffs in Florida.
I travel all over the US all the time. I did guess Florida, and the rest make sense now that I know, but Minnesota honestly surprised me, because of the deep gully near the eastern border. And I imagined Nebraska and Rhode Island would be up there, too. I'd like to see a full list.
I feel like the music in the first 25 seconds is too loud and distracting. It takes the focus away from your voice when you're explaining the intro. The very intro was fine but I think you should have toned the volume down by 50% or so when you started talking. Good video anway - all your videos are great; but that was my immediate thought upon viewing. Mind you i'm not an editor or content creator, i'm just a guy who watches a lot of youtube.
You should have mentioned your home country, Australia, which is the lowest, flattest, and oldest landmass on Earth. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_(continent)
Given that the correlation between the flatness of a pancake and the flatness of a piece of land would require a mountain 9,000 m tall in the latter, I think the question is not why people think that Kansas is the flattest state but why people think that a pancake is flat.

Hey does anyone know what happened to that Australian science youtuber, who would often do a long one take style video?? Cant remember what his name was, but his channel seems to have disappeared
Dude, do you really need to be applying for the ABC Creator Program when you have more than enough reach and opportunities as it is? I'm not knocking you but, give others a chance 🤷♂
Rock Chalk! Haha love seeing another Aussie visit my second home! It was often joked about KU’s campus being on of the steepest in the country in one of the flattest states!
Wow, flabbergasted by statistics!!! As you ask does it matter??? Maybe ... or maybe not ... particularly to an Aussie ... but interesting information all the same! 🦘
Very nicely done like our own Aussie Tom Scott! Love it!!

You haven't posted a video in 6 months. Just curious how you are doing?
I've been seeing him recently on the ABCScience channel's shorts.
So Florida is even flatter than The Netherlands. Our highest mountain is 322.4 meter high.
And I really want an American pancake now.
I watched this and was curious about how the Netherlands would measure up.

There's nothing more delicious than poffertjes, dripping with butter and showered with icing sugar! 😋🇦🇺❤️🇳🇱

What is Spanish Florida? Are you saying Julian used an incorrect map?

It's because kansas is the plains. Nothing to break up the monotony. Just...plains.

Why would people think that a pancake is 9,000 m tall.

Turn that background music down

Just watched you on ABC science. Where have you been? You still making content?
Flat earth science, nice.
couldnt hear you over the music
only an issue until the first cut, fortunately, but it was very loud.
All that has left me feeling a bit flat.😊

But the video is about Kansas not Australia.
You should do a study on Saskatchewan. 👍
Ich liebe Pfannkuchen.
It depends how you scale the surface of a pancake; its totally arbitrary and I hope that was an April Fools...

Just a curb is thicker than a pancake so I have no idea how anyone could think a whole state is flatter.
height and flatness are not the same thing. A messa is usually very flat... but also very tall.
