Sydney to Newcastle by Train - The Newcastle Flyer (FULL RIDE)

  • Recorded 15/1/2018
    The 15:45 nicknamed the "Newcastle Flyer" is the fastest passenger train service from Sydney Central station to Newcastle Interchange today, taking 2 hours and 27 minutes over 165.6 kilometers. However, there have been other services that have been officially named the "Newcastle Flyer" in the early half of the 20th century which would have carried passengers from Sydney to the old Newcastle station (closed 2014) (168 km) in as short as 2 hours 18 minutes. However, travel times from Sydney and Newcastle have increased due to large population centers at stations once not serviced by the flyer (i.e. Wyong and Woy Woy)
    This is the full passenger view of the Newcastle Flyer with some parts of the journey trimmed, particularly at intermediate stops. Along the way, there are picturesque landscapes along the route which go unadvertised in travel agencies but do surprise you when you see it for yourself.
    Apologies for the shaky movements - my camera was set to video stabilization mode so the camera moved with some stationary objects outside the train.
    If you are ever bored, you can skip to thses stations below:
    Central (Departure): 00:33
    Strathfield: 12:00
    Epping: 22:35

    Thank you showing our ride home, Cardiff, Kotara, Adamstown , Broadmedow , Hamilton.
    I miss our Newcastle Station, it was so romantic and i was so proud, when our family from Germany arrived at Newcastle Station, it was almost like in a movie.
    So so sad it is gone for nothing !
    Absolutely nil improvement.😔

    I remember back in 2000s and just before NSW Trainlink was formed, there was a flyer that departed Newcastle at around 8am, stopping only at Hamilton, Broadmeadow, Cardiff, Fassifern, Morisset then express to Gosford, exp to Hornsby, Strathfield then Central

      There was also a similar service that existed until the timetable change in 20 October 2013, except that it stopped all stations between Newcastle and Broadmeadow.

    No Oscar was scheduled on the *Newcastle Flyer* .
    The equivalent timings of the *Newcastle Flyer* would be 06:20 from Wickham Interchange, 17:20 Central to Wickham Interchange.
    The 15:45 isn't nicknamed the Flyer, even though it might HAVE been one of the two fastest.
    No train is now is called or nicknamed *The Flyer* , *Newcastle Express / Flyer* or any of that combination.

    Thanks very much. So is this prior to the closure of the Newcastle Station? Has it been less than 4 years since all this changed? Were there toilets on this train? I would love to do a trip to Newcastle again as I did a while ago (since Newcastle Closure) but, sadly even with this zippy 2 hrs 20m I still have to add the train from Mt Druitt to perhaps Strathfield and the bus to Mt Druitt Station that still makes it at LEAST 6 hours return. Not much time to check the trams again. I got lucky last time...a lift back with a friend in her car! Cut an hour off the return trip.

    It bugs me how intercity trains have to start and end at Sydney terminal I think they should start at the suburban platforms because Sydney terminal is Supposed to be for trains that travel long distance and Sydney to Gosford trains start at Sydney terminal and it’s not long distance

    • @tacitdionysus3220
      @tacitdionysus3220 4 года назад +1

      Why add services on the already very busy suburban platforms, when they can start at the terminal platforms with less interference with other services? Australian think of a train to Gosford or Newcastle as being a 'short' run. Go to somewhere like the UK or other parts fo Europe and they would definitely be in the medium to longer distance category.

    iv'e always been very annoyed about how the central coast line has to go via Strathfield to Hornsby and not the north shore hopefully when the NIF trains come to the central coast and the blue mountains they will link those 2 lines together because they cant have the peak hour trains terminating at blacktown if the NIF continue to do so they will be wasting lots of time, money and electricity because they have to go all the way back to central and then all the way up the blue mountains via blacktown when blacktown is already on the way to the blue mountains when the trains were already there at blacktown in the first place if they keep them terminating at blacktown its silly and i think they will have to make more trains go via the north shore to lithgow because strathfield is already on the way to the blue mountains and them going all the way back to central then all the way to the blue mountains when strathfield was already on the way there like Sydney trains need to have some common sense there when the NIF come out on both the CCN and the BM line and they continue to have the NIF terminating at blacktown and that's it i will have to say that Sydney trains needs to go get some help and the timetable managers have fallen asleep on there tables

    • @sylviaelse5086
      @sylviaelse5086 4 года назад

      I can't see that a north shore route would be any faster, because the stopping trains take the same 51 minutes to get from Central to Hornsby, with the same 15 minutes between trains as the stopping trains via Epping. So in both cases, the fastest express time is achieve by leaving Central just before a stopping train, and then not quite catching up with the preceding stopping train when it arrives at Hornby. Doing any better on either route without passing loops and/or passing at stations, requires that the slow trains run at uneven intervals. Even then the speed limits on the north shore route are very low.
