In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, I'm glad you found the view from the terrace, where Paris can be seen in a distance. Not that it's beautiful, but it's uncommon (to me). Also, I'm sure the archeology enthusiasts will be glad to know that the chateau of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is the National Museum of Archeology ( aka MAN _Musée d'Archéologie National_ ). Worth a several hours glance.
Nice to hear a modern take on a special song, Françoise Hardy, Tous les Garçons et les Filles. Really smitten by her without knowing why... a mere five years old at that time.
Love your French Friday’s!!! How I found your channel over a year ago!! My daughter printed your guide to plan our trip in April or May. Have to wait until January to get actual date for graduation. I want to see the cherry blossoms. That was one of my favorite videos!! Have a Wonderful Week!!
@MrTherealpad Ahhh, I see what you mean. My wife and I did actually explore the area a bit. I remember because we momentarily day dreamed about moving there in the future (knowing full well that it would never actually happen). lol. I remember a large courtyard/square in the middle of the town, and we had coffee right off of the corner of it at shop that had (like the rest of France) their outdoor seating set up perfectly for people watching. Sadly, I can't remember the name of the place, but I remember the atmosphere fondly.
Yay for French Fridays. Good to know about the RER system for my next visit. I've taken it from CDG to Paris, but not anywhere else. Google maps often tried to send us on the RER C to get back to our apartment but there was no obvious stop/station around the location. Luckily, walking through Paris to get to a close by Metro is always a good time.
We spent all day riding the train the wrong way after we had to detour to another train due to construction. A wonderful construction person who spoke English guided us through a maze at a train stop way out. Versailles was beautiful but we were toast by the time we got back to the city!!! Wish we had time to check out the town more!!!
You can buy an Online ticket to visit Versailles and skip the ticket-buying line. You can start by visiting the gardens and then near the end of the day visit the castle. That's what I did 2 years ago and I didn't wait for too much although it was very crowded when I got there in the morning.
Good job! I love the videos where you share something that you've just discovered or something that makes seeing Paris easier or more rewarding. By the way, my favorite of the things that I've learned from your videos is the way you can request the check in a resto or cafe by miming writing on the palm of you hand with an imaginary pen. This saves the waiter a trip across the room, and they really appreciate it. Thanks, Jay!
You forgot one that is rather easy to access with RER A (and a bus) between Champs sur Marne and Noisiel stations (on the Marne la Vallée branch), it's an adorable and delightful little 18th Century palace. French presidents also used to welcome chiefs of State there during there visits for a more private discussion. I really encourage you to visit it. Vincennes chapel is a 14/15th Century simplified copy of the Sainte Chappelle in Paris.
Hey Jay! I'll be in Paris for a few days later this week and remembered that you did this video on how to get to various chateaux near the city. I've just watched it again and have taken notes so I'll make efficient use of the little time I have there. THANKS!
This video made me so want to get back to Paris that I stopped the video and planned my next trip to Paris and Belgium in May. Now back to my regularly scheduled viewing . . .
C'est le bon !!! Great idea for a French Friday video Jay! You make my horrible work week better with fun exciting travels. Merci, Thanks, Gracias, Danke, XiéXié, you get the point...
Chateau de Vincennes is my most favorite ever in Paris. But you and your Dad found another medieval "chateau" right in Paris as I recall, and it looked pretty cool too. But the keep at Vincennes is just other wordly. And, never crowded out there.
Careful if you’re in the Versailles gardens around closing time. I wasn’t let out and stayed the night in the gardens by the Queens Hamlet, and slept on the grass.
When we were in Paris and went to Versailles, there were constructions going on. So there were busses, and changes, and it was beautifully handled by lots of people (official ones in vests (not yellow ones though)) directing you and everything went well! Smooth sailing! Berlin was more of a mess, and that just goes to show how wrong people are! :-) Unfortunately it was the hottest day ever, so queueueueing (I cut that short) was hotter than hell. Still worth it. Oh, and thanks for playing Tous les garçons et les filles again! It really is a lovely song.
So excited that French Friday’s are back very nostalgic since it’s how I found you last year doing research for my trip. Happy I waited till Saturday when I could have a nice homemade espresso to enjoy while I watched. I’m glad to see Gustave having a run in the grass he’s the sweetest. I can’t believe how close I was to seeing Vincennes. I was on the #1 at St. Paul so much when I was in Paris in July but this is a great video for my next trip. I have agree great editing by Kevin. Thank again for starting these up again I’m really looking forward to more though I do enjoy your weekly vlog to just catch up 😄
Oh my Goodness, what a delightful video this was. I"m just catching up with the Vlog after my hops over the Pacific Northwest, and found this gem of a video. Can't wait for the next. I will definitively include another Chateau on my next visit to Paris.
I waited until Friday even though on Patreon I could’ve taken the sneak peek yesterday. I wanted to watch on RUclips, which I like better! It’s nice to comment here, too. 😊 (I know. I could watch twice... but it’s not always practical.) The château at Vincennes looks pretty cool. I only ever have seen the outside, which is impressive. This is a great French Friday and Kevin did a fantastic edit! 👍🏼✌🏼
Jay Swanson Lol!! Right on! I kind of also want to ensure your view count doesn’t take a drop with watching through Patreon. Won’t it help the stats & algorithm if there is direct interaction on the RUclips post itself? I hope so! Gotta get those likes, comments, and shares! (If I watch via the Patreon link, I still come over here the next day and at least give the video a like. 😊)
We began watching your daily vlogs as guides to Paris as we were researching our trip and the vlog has now become a part of my routine. Now that it's gone weekly I really look forward to the notice on Patreon that the videos are up to view! Adding the first French Friday is great and I look forward to seeing more. We need to check out the other chateux beside Versailles for sure. P.S. what are the names of the tracks that you used I'm the videos?
Thanks! It was fun to make, if a but much at the time. And the songs were all custom made by Dyalla if you want to check her out - but they're not available publicly as far as I know
@@JaySwanson I'm assuming they were visited in multiple days but it still seemed like a busy period to get all of them done. Regarding the music, custom made..that's cool and makes sense. I was looking at the RUclips channel and wasn't finding them. Btw, enjoy Morocco!
The castle in St. Germain en Laye is actually the birth place of King Louis the 14.! 😁 Been there 3 times, cute village too! 👍😘🇩🇰 Merci Jay! Vincennes is 👍👍👍too!
Loved the idea of your video. Arriving on a closed day to one chateau and unwilling to buy a ticket to enter another ... not so good. I live in Mountain View, CA, home of Google. They are not always a good thing. None the less, a fun video. Best wishes, Jay.
Brilliant video dude. Will be visiting Paris again for the first time in a little over 2 years. It will be nice to see 'Paris' from outside the inner circle and this has given me a great oppitunity to explore more. Then info on RER was great. I thought it was just a standard rail network from city to city, turns out I was wrong! :D

Had the time of my life biking around the garden area of Versailles. Set up a little picnic with a couple of friends on a bench and just took it all in.
This was superb - an excellent video, super informative and a great idea. Well done and thanks! Also, Gustave is extremely cool. You may already have thought of this, but how about a video on the subject of trips to places of natural interest, like regional parks or whatever, that are easily accessible from Paris?
Fun video! More palaces to check out. I've been to Versailles and was horrified that the windows were open (I get it, it was hot--but the dust coming in! WTF?!). I will say that the Hall of Mirrors did impress me quite a bit. I thought it would be tiny--it was surprisingly big! (That's what she said...) My husband lived right by Vincennes, so we walked over on a very hot September afternoon: we had the place to ourselves. I think there were maybe a dozen other people there. Not to brag, but we didn't have to pay to get into the chapel...
Love this French Friday Vlog! Great edit KEVIN! I will have to get to Versailles one of these days, we would have done the Bike About Tour, but silly me thought we had to RIDE our bikes TO VERSAILLES! hahaha! 😅 oh well, this will give me an excuse to come back to Paris.
Well done, my favorite video you have done since the tour of the Louvre. Do you sell more in-depth tour videos like this? If not you should. I would buy it before coming back to Paris.
I haven't thought about selling more in-depth videos, but I do have a 120 page guide that I wrote and sell over here if you want in on that bit.ly/ParisVloggersGuide - it's got over 200 recommendations and lots of essays on lots of topics that should be helpful
Is the first one the one in Asnieres-sur-seine? I think it's used as a community center now, I don't know if there's a museum to it . There's a chance we'll be moving near that area if my husband gets this job he applied for at La Defense, so I checked the area out. I'm pretty sure the chess club for that town meets there, lol, which is something my husband is interested in.
My friends and I took the RER to CDG and a guy on the train was fined for not purchasing the correct fare to CDG. Then we were wondering that since you still have to use your RER ticket to get into CDG, what happens if you don't have the correct fare? Or do all RER tickets open the gates to get into CDG?
Was it these that your brother in law was going to edit? Looks good and still feels very Jay. The castle at St Germain en Laye has some pretty cool history including being the birth place of Louis XIV and home to the exiled King James II and plenty Jacobite intrigue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Saint-Germain-en-Laye The international school is out there so I've done a bit of checking up on the town and it's surroundings. It's not a bad local for folks who'd like to have a more laid back living environment within easy reach of Paris.
Some were closed, Sceaux is under construction and Asnières was a big question mark on when it's ever open. But Vincennes, St G-en-L, and Versailles are open to the paying public 👍👍
You can also just appreciate the architecture from outside. I live in Bath and just love walking around the buildings and appreciating my surroundings. Preferably in the morning when all the tourists are still eating their breakfasts. Just knowing some of the history of the buildings and the people involved is a lovely feeling.
If you are going to Versailles, here's a tip: take the one with Chateau in it, usually the train is called VICK on the front of the train! 👍😘 Edit: OH SORRY! You said it! 😄😂😄
One of the best day trips from Paris is to go to the American WW1 cemetary near the town of Chateau-Thierry. The battlefield is preserved as it was over 100 years ago, and the two local museums are both good and free. Go see the battlefield of Belleau Wood, and see where the US Marine Corps saved France in 1918.
@@JaySwanson : No, no. The gold is real (this is not Disneyland). The gates had been destroyed during the Revolution and were faithfully replaced in 2007. And you can see on the following video that they were gilded with real gold leaves (the gilder doesn't use the brush for painting but for applying the gold foils) : ruclips.net/video/vPaFiGk7LYk/видео.html And so is the gold on the statues in the basins of the gardens : ruclips.net/video/y06SGTEj8ys/видео.html As far as I know, the golden ornaments of the monuments of France are always gilded. There are very stricts rules about the restoration of historic buidings. About the furniture, I would be surprised if there were replicas, but I can't tell. One thing is sure, it's that the chateau was emptied during and after the Revolution and that all the furniture was scattered all over Europe. If most of the current furniture is not the one that was there at the time, it's likely some furniture from other places, but it's authentic. Also, I heard several times on the news that, whenever possible, France repurchases the original furniture, if proven authentic.
He talks so fast and can't understand what he is trying to tell us. Hope you make a proper video for tips on how to ride trains in paris. With clear audio on the background while showing us on the video what, which and how about riding a Metro or RER and else.
Hi Issa, thanks for your feedback. You can slow down the video on settings if the pace is too quick for you. We're also working on editing and improving the closed captioning. And for transportation in Paris, check out this video: ruclips.net/video/Qn4-ac0sPDQ/видео.html

If you think the chapel at the chateau de Vincennes is impressive for it's big windows then you should go and visit the sainte chapelle.
Jay are you adding these to your travel guide?
I might have to in the spring 😁
If one has the Navigo Decouverte, 1-5, will it work to go to all the chateaus?
Yep!
Hi you forgot on of the best near Paris Chateau Chantilly RER Gare de Chantilly Gouvieux
It was on the list! I'll get to it in another I'm sure =)
Any plans on getting yourself a Gustave?
Ha, I wish!
There's an error in the title. It's chateaux and not chateaus 😉
It's not an error if that's how it's most commonly searched 😂😕
@@JaySwanson True that! Search optimization...
Depends on whether your first language is French or English. Both are commonly used in America. :)
Not crazy about background music...reminds me of Casey N’s vlogs.
Yep - you need the correct ticket for those gates to open. Some stops don't require your ticket to exit, but most will
♥️❤️♥️❤️
😁😁😁
i wish you had shown how to buy the ticket in more detail.
This is where Kevin will be leaning in, yep!😁
Can Navigo card go all the cities in lle de France? thanks
lol yep, it's impossible to leave a place in France. Can never tell how to get out XD
Their signage is universally bad 🤣
...also... GUSTAVE!!!!
😁🐕😁🐕😁🐕😁
Too much to ask to list the Dyalla music pieces on your soundtrack? Or where to get them? Thanks.
Most of the castles in this vblog seemed to be closed, or do you just have to pay to go inside the buildings?
Some were closed, Sceaux is under construction and Asnières was a big question mark on when it's ever open. But Vincennes, St G-en-L, and Versailles are open to the paying public 👍👍
You can also just appreciate the architecture from outside. I live in Bath and just love walking around the buildings and appreciating my surroundings. Preferably in the morning when all the tourists are still eating their breakfasts. Just knowing some of the history of the buildings and the people involved is a lovely feeling.
have they changed the name of RER to 'Train' yet? I read that they were changing the name.
If you are going to Versailles, here's a tip: take the one with Chateau in it, usually the train is called VICK on the front of the train! 👍😘
Edit: OH SORRY!
Hey no coffee?
😂😂
I thought the gold at Versailles is gold, not “fake gold.”
The real gold was stripped off during the revolution - most of the furniture inside is replica as well
@@JaySwanson : No, no. The gold is real (this is not Disneyland). The gates had been destroyed during the Revolution and were faithfully replaced in 2007. And you can see on the following video that they were gilded with real gold leaves (the gilder doesn't use the brush for painting but for applying the gold foils) :

And so is the gold on the statues in the basins of the gardens :

As far as I know, the golden ornaments of the monuments of France are always gilded.
