I hope tons of people start pouring in from this video. 4 years ago I found your channel because of your 'How to Use the Metro video and the professionalism and quality of this video FAR surpasses the OG. I am constantly pleased to see how much time & work you put into your craft and, boy, does it show! Great job, Jay! & a Big Thank You! 😊 👏👏👏
This dudes videos are the most helpful thing if you are planning a trip to Paris. I really enjoyed watching the one about scams and he showed these guys playing a game around the Eifel Tower and betting on this ball under some cups. I saw this in Paris and thought "oh I saw this on Jay Swanson", then got to watch the police go after them, it was like an episode of cops right in front of me.
I used to take the metro everywhere when I was in Paris. Recently though I've been almost exclusively using the electric Dott scooters. Only costs 6 euros or so for 10 rides within 24 hours. Great way to get around albeit maybe not the safest.
Such a great video! Your content helped me get through the peak of lockdown in Canada. I'm finally going to Paris in a few weeks and I'm using your videos so I don't feel completely lost. Thank you!!
I am going to visit Paris when I go see my daughter who has moved to Portugal and your guides are invaluable!!!!!!! Because I am the biggest travel wuss EVER
Jay was really polite but I'll just come out and say it -- don't use the scooters when you're here unless you really know what you're getting into. I rarely go a few days without seeing near-misses between tourists on those things and automobiles. Just walk or take the train. It's better for you and you'll survive long enough to tell everybody else about your great trip to Paris!
I agree. My daughter lives in Florida and flew off of one when she hit a hole in the pavement. She couldn't see it because there was construction going on, and a spotlight was aimed directly at a spot that happened to blind her momentarily. She cracked her clavicle and was out of work for a few weeks (unpaid). She couldn't even dress herself. The people at the E.R. in Fort Lauderdale told her that she was lucky; told her people are thrown into traffic and pass away.
Biking is the best! Since the city is so small you can pretty much get anywhere in less than 30 👏 Also, Dott is the best price for the scooters ! They have a 2 ride for 3 EUR pass which is cheaper than 2 metro/bus rides 🙌
For the Lime/Uber scooters & bikes, if your coming to visit for a few days, like velib, you can get unlimited ride passes for a set period of time. I believe they are 24hr and 3 day passes. I got the 3 day pass for 28.99 EUR, and I saved SO much money. I only wish I knew that before I started using the system. So if you're planning on doing a lot of biking in Paris (which I also highly recommend), and you don't want to have to deal with Velib, I suggest getting the 3 day pass with Lime.
Just returned from Paris yesterday. All set to buy the navigio easy pass and found they still sell the 10 ticket bundle. Apparently they are not phasing them out until September. We found the 10 tickets enough as we like to walk and wander around. Plus you can share them unlike the navigo pass. This was best value for us. Love how efficient the metro system is. We found your videos really helpful and thanks to your tip we made sure we paid to go to the top of the Parthenon. Definitely a highlight.
Decouverte card was my choice in our week in Paris. Used it on our trip from CDG to the city, trip to Disneyland and to Le Bougeot and multiple metro and bus trips. Proved to be really good value.
Definitely get a Navigo - they are so easy to use and the tickets work out really cheap. Good point about being walking fit. I had a huge blister on my left foot last week after walking round the city. The blister was well worth it though!
YES YES YES for the people who stop at the top of the escalator ! I take the RER to work and every morning so many commuters (not tourists...people who take this same train every single weekday) do this ! It is so annoying. Just keep walking ! Thank you, Jay, for spreading this important message ;) :)
When me and my mom visited France a few weeks ago, we had so, SO much good food everywhere we went Yet after we got home, Mom said she lost 3 pounds from before we left And I can't say I lost any weight, but I did notice that the stairs up to my apartment seemed quite a bit easier to climb than before That's the measure of just how much walking you're gonna do when you're in France!
Bonjour Jay! A LOT of RER B issues from CDG starting because of renovations, and until 2025. I was trying to help one of our university students navigate all the zigs and zags with this for her upcoming trip, and whew....this subject could definitely use a video. (BTW, while I don't usually take it, I ended up recommending - the Roissy bus to the metro - for her because of her particular date which will be a Sunday with extra restrictions, on top of everything else). Great video on all the rest but heads up that this topic could use some chat and help a lot of people. Un gros merci!
I can wait to put all of your information to use when we visit. My family and I have been watching for years and love your content. We have been trying to come to Paris for New Years for 3 years now, hopefully this is the year!
We do that in Ny too regarding the escalator ..stand on the right to leave the left for those that wanna walk up. Yea it’s annoying when people stop at the top. Thanks for the helpful video
We bought our Navigo one week at CDG but didn't know we needed a passport sized photo. Got the pass which we loved could have done without the photo drama after an 8 hour flight. About busses, they are great if you want to see some of Paris without walking! We planned our trip to include 'bus rests'. Make sure your Google Maps includes bus routes to your destinations. Yes you will walk a lot!!
Love your work, my wife and I found you back in January a few months before our honeymoon and all of your insight helped us immensely! Our trip went smoothly and we were able to navigate and get around with ease.
Another great video with some super ideas. Unlike you, my wife and I enjoyed the buses. Except for the RER B from CDG, and a couple of trips on the Metro, we either walked or took the bus. As tourists who weren't in a hurry, buses allowed us to people watch and see the sites. We will return in June, and will likely walk and/or bus everywhere. Au revoir.

@@jamesbinns8528 It actually went pretty well. It was so hot, we didn't want to be stuck on buses. And with it being around Bastille Day, they were really crowded so we used Ubers and taxis. A couple of the Uber drivers were rude because there were four of us (even though the app says for four people). The taxi drivers were all good. I was strategic about restrooms and it wasn't too bad. I am traveling solo and heard so much about pockpocketing that I am afraid to just set up my tripod and leave it to pose and it get snatched lol!
I got a "weekly" navigo pass when I arrived on a Friday and it ran out on the Sunday night 😢 apparently it only lasts a week if you get it on a Monday.
Are the museums still requiring reservations? If so, what is the best way to do that? We will be there in a few weeks. Your videos have been great. Thank you.
Hey, Jay! I just discovered your channel recently and will be in Paris next week for the first time! I'm staying right next to the Arc de Triomphe at the front of the trip and Montmartre on the back end (Lyon and all over the Riviera inbetween). You sound American. I'm in Florida. Curious as to where you're from. How long have you lived in Paris? Anyway, your channel is SO GREAT. If you're around, maybe we can grab a coffee at one of your recommended spots. I plan on trying a different one every day. 🇨🇵
@@JaySwanson Ah alright, I hope it goes away completely soon. Here in Norway there hasn't been any restrictions since January basicly. Did I say you're looking good and healthy mate 👌
Great video. We are arriving to CDG on a Thursay. We will be there for 12 days. Should we get the unlimited pass? We want to go to Disney and Versailles. The fist week do the easy pass and the second week do the unlimited? It's all confusing
I will be in Paris for 8 hrs in June. How easy is it to catch a taxi at the Louvre to Eiffel Tower? I appreciate your helpful vlogs. Thanks in advance.
It really depends on which part of Paris you live in. I live in Zone 4 on the south side, and I actually don't go into Zone 1 that often, so I don't have any Navigo pass really. It depends on which zones you live in and which zones you go to on a daily. Like with the Easy Navigo, and also Navigo Liberté , it's the best for Zone 1, for me I can only use the Navigo Easy on buses in my area, it doesn't work on the RER outside of Zone 1. The mayor and president of Ile-de-France are seriously considering making Navigo Liberté available for all zones and I hope it happens soon. The difference between Easy and Liberté is that with Easy you load your tickets in advance, to it's perfect for tourists that will be staying in Zone 1, Liberté is better for locals and is a credit system when you pay once a month for all the trips you did that month.
Awesome video, but I have two questions (hopefully simple ones). If you have just flown in to CDG, can you buy a weekly Navigo ticket, and use it to get into Paris Centre, and then use it for the week? How much approx does a weekly 5 zone ticket cost?
Apparently my Motorola phone can't do the Velib or SNCF app as it doesn't have the tap to pay software. We are only going to be in Paris for 28 hours and doing very short trips around arr 1-4 and to the border of the one East of 3, whatever number that is. Can I just pay euros on buses? Get paper tickets in the metro? Not worried about saving a few cents for just a day. And since Velib is out, does Lime/Uber require the same technology or is it just a code of some sort my sad phone can handle?
I’ll be in Paris next week. I’ll mostly be in the city, but will be heading out to París La Défense Arena on Thursday and Versailles on Sunday. Should I get a Navigo Easy and just pay for round trips out to those places on the day of, or is it worth getting Navigo Découverte?
Jay ,ill definitely purchase a navigo easy card q. can I take bus the bus with the card & what zones are restricted with the card still seeking answers to some questions over all ur videos are bad ass 😢
Hey, yes navigo works on the bus. Zone access depends on what you purchase with a card. A navigo card itself doesn't determine the zones - YOU determined the zones when you purchase it. All of central Paris is zone one, but the big woods on either side will be zone 2, and for Versailles and CDG you'll want up to zone 5. Just depends on your trip/plans.
Thank you also for the reminder not to scoot on the pavement ! And not to have more than one person ! I have seen so many people fined for both, but still it continues. So dangerous (and annoying !)
Hi @@JaySwanson I will be purchasing the Navigo weekly. If I arrive on Christmas Day 25 of Dec. Will the metro ticket office be open to purchase it, as it requires id?
Ugh - pickpockets! No joke! I had been SO careful but there were two seconds on Friday when I put my phone in my pocket at the Etienne Marcel metro entrance and a tall black dude dressed in black slammed into me at the turnstile while I was putting in my ticket. He stole my phone and I ran after him, but had already gone through the turnstile so he had a time/space advantage. Never put anything valuable where they can see it. And of anyone sees that dude, please yell at him for me!
Ok I have a silly question because I've never taken an Uber in a different country, but do I have to download another Uber app that is specific to the other country? I have a regular uber app in the U.S. What is the uber situation like in Paris? If I'm out and about, is it easier to flag down a taxi or use uber? I'm paranoid of taking the metro because of possible pickpockets....it also looks a bit crowded and congested...I'm trying to avoid crowds in small spaces (trains). Thanks for sharing.
Your Uber app will work here, you don't need to download another one. There are taxi stands all over Paris, though, which can be nice because you don't have to wait. They'll both get you where you need to go, though!

Do you have an app that can be used in Paris like city mapper?
Are you using your iphone as the Navigo Decoverte pass?
I’ll be in Paris next week. I’ll mostly be in the city, but will be heading out to París La Défense Arena on Thursday and Versailles on Sunday. Should I get a Navigo Easy and just pay for round trips out to those places on the day of, or is it worth getting Navigo Découverte?
I'm all for Navigo Easy
can't the Mobilis pass also be bought as an unlimited daily pass?
Jay can we use Apple Pay to tap in the metro?
Hi, if I’m staying at La Defense, will a regular ticket from zone 1 work? If not what should I get for 5 days while staying at La Defense? Merci
Hi, La Défense is in zone 3, so you'll need a pass that covers that while you're in town!
Hi @@JaySwanson I will be purchasing the Navigo weekly. If I arrive on Christmas Day 25 of Dec. Will the metro ticket office be open to purchase it, as it requires id?
I used to take RER E from Paris to Emerainville-Pontault-Combault to see my girlfriend. I'm so hlad we broke up. That ride was an 1h16min each way 😁😁😁
Hey Jay, what’s the name of the Uber equivalent in Paris?
Uber is here, but Freenow is another good option
i was in Paris just last week and i was about to buy the book of ten tickets. did something change about them cancelling it?
@@in2itivity i brought the book of 10 from the ticket machine though. Or is there a new book of ten or something like that?
@@in2itivity Oh ok thank you
Ugh - pickpockets!
I walked about 10 to 12 miles a day, even with the metro.
@@JaySwanson thanks! And would you say it’s best to use cash or credit card for taxi? Tipping necessary?
Tipped a scooter and did not care to put it back up. What a piece of work.
Maybe I did after I turned off the camera ;D You'll never knowwwwww
@@JaySwanson Ok I will give you that. lol
