I will never understand the long division way. Why are you skipping the 3x^2 on the first step. Why did the 4x cancel?

He is skipping the 3x^2 because he is subtracting an x^1
Typically a teacher puts "3x^2 - 0x^2"
You are subtracting the terms, this is why the 4x canceled.
