    The best reason for Sydney's (and NSW's) existence is to make it difficult for Victorians to breed with Queenslanders. Seriously though, Australia's East Coast is lucky to have both Melbourne and Sydney, both world class cities each with it's own characteristics and within a day's drive of each other, with great countryside in between.

    • @AussieGem

      Haha! 😅 You're right! We have wonderful cities, with a lot to appreciate about them and the whole land 😊 I remember visiting the Ned Kelly Museum and town shops on my drive from Melbourne to Sydney - undiscovered little places with friendly people to meet. Thank you for your comment! Have a great week 🙂

    I love Sydney. The parks, ferry rides from Manly, museums, great transportation. And this was in the 70's. I used to drive or catch a bus from Avalon and the ride was good. I miss the double decker busses. In town the trams and trains would take you where you wanted to go. The one thing Australia had down was transportation, it was exceptional. It did get cold in the winter and most homes did not have central heating. I like woodstoves myself but it does get cold. I swam in the winter months because I was used to San Francisco beaches and the water is so invigorating. My mom is an Aussie and I am so glad she went back when I was in my late teens. Australia is really a magical place.

      Ahhh I loved reading your little story here - so interesting and fun too! 😊 What a wonderful variety of living experiences you've had - that's what makes living so vibrant! 😍 The 70s would have been fascinating and a time when tech wasn't so in our faces (literally! haha). Good to hear Aus has good transport - I know we tend to complain a lot about it here HA, but perspective from living in different countries brings beautiful appreciation. Thank you for watching and for leaving a great comment! 🙏😊

    Have to disagree with you here Gemma, I love the four seasons Sydney has. In fact, I think that Autumn and Spring are Sydney's best kept secrets as it is not too warm and not too cold for three months on end and I look forward to them each year. The water is still warm and clear, as opposed to Summer and Winter - whence the water's temp and clarity changes considerably. I loved the honest and correctness of your assessment of Sydney on every other point, however. So refreshing to get that perspective - and not just focus on the beaches. I would have cared to see more footage on the coastal or bush walks nearby, but I understand you can't pack it all in.
    Thank you for your efforts in helping attract and help build tourism to our wonderful city after such a devastating time during COVID. Now that the borders are open again, hopefully your well timed video will bring people back in droves.

    I live in Perth now.. Honestly it's Sooo much nicer than Sydney. Sydney CBD area has more options and is bigger than Perth but when it comes to metro area living, Perth beats Sydney hands down. Freeways and roads are designed better, the layout of suburbs, cleaner etc... And the beaches... Sydney beaches pale in comparison

      I am originally from Perth and currently living in Sydney for the 4 and a half years. The people have no manners and can be arrogant. It’s expensive especially by car, the public transport is confusing.
      I would rather be back home in Perth - cleaner, less hustle and bustle, more decent coffee houses. Miss Mauds is only located in Perth and it’s the Swedish food better than ikea by far!

    the lack of eye contact is a thing in Sydney and Melbourne, some of it has to do with avoiding ppl beggng for money, but mostly its unfriendlness. I find Melbourne much worse for this

    • @AussieGem
      @AussieGem  2 года назад +2

      How interesting! I wondered how other cities were doing! When I was in Oslo, Norway, many ppl didn't use eye contact, but I was informed it was due to politeness (not wanting to intrude on someone's privacy/seem rude), however in Sydney I can't quite understand the avoidance. Maybe ppl prefer the look of a phone screen than someone's face. haha yikes.

    Mostly accurate, but your perspective seemed to be very inner city centric. The weather in Sydney is taken from Observatory Hill which is very mild. Out in the suburbs where most live it can get down to near 0c at night in winter and 45c in summer so there very much are seasons. Many also live with poor public transport (the northern beaches) and few parks. Sydney has also become very over developed with apartment buildings giving it the look and feel of anywhere but Australia. Roads that used to be 3 lanes in each direction for their entire length are now funneled into 1 lane while the population has doubled. Lovely old homes get torn down and people shake as tunnels are built under their homes. 2 million dollars is becoming a common purchase price for many homes. Melbourne hasn't been ruined to the same degree.

  • @tacitdionysus3220
    @tacitdionysus3220 2 года назад

    When will people discover that Sydney surrounding suburbs extend for miles and miles, and each has its own unique features and often great beauty. Places like Newtown and Chippendale are very, very INNER suburbs. There is so much more to Sydney than 5 Ks from the CBD.
