How does PV sacrifice himself to try to stop the knight from getting to the radiance? Am I missing a story beat here? I though Hollow Knight was just holding Radiance because the king thought he was pure, so he thought he could hold her forever?
@@leader16012 The Hollow Knight *breaks* at the third phase and tries to kill itself, so you can access the Raidiance later. The Pure Vessel really tries to kill you.
This fight tells us how powerful the hollow knight was in his prime. You see that the infection actually made him weaker despite still being so powerful. He was a great knight and he did his best as a leader.

Just here he is augmented by "godly focus" because at the top of a pantheon, therefore made stronger by the worship of the godseekers. It's also possible that his original form was stronger because of the whole void/soul thing, it's unclear wether he actually got stronger or not. Void was the enemy of Radiance after all
He was not a leader tho. Just a prison of radiance. Yes he had become a legend since Hes going to help everyone in hollow knights world and since Hes never going to be seen again memorials were build yet he never led anything. Hes allmost like artorias who was the strongest of gwyns knight but he only led Hes most faithful companion sif.

Honestly I was wondering why you even bother to use Gurbsong when you have to be hitless for radiant battle.. I would just go overcharmed and add in sharp shadow or dream shield (very good dps boost)
True, but I felt that Unbreakable Strength/Mark of Pride/Quick Slash was adequate for winning, so I felt some joke charms would make for some laughs when I showed it after winning.
I started hearing everyone calling the hollow knight by pure vessel, then I thought to myself, did they add a fight with him without the infection!!? I immediately searched up, saw the video title and after I finished it, my god this is one of the most things I wanted to see in Hollow Knight whole world, the hollow knight grown up and before he got infected, not just that but you get to fight him too! Really one of my favourite boss fights of God master
I really love the idea of the Pure Vessel. It’s the Hollow Knight in his prime, right? It’s everything a Vessel should be, and more. It has no mind, emotion, or voice, yes. But it’s also an indomitable warrior, with pristine control over both Void and Soul-it’s able to use its body like tenebrous whips, and its soul like flashbombs and steel spires. Very cool, very cool indeed.
i love the void/soul aesthetic thats in this background with the smoke coming up between the arena and the place where godseeker sits and the white energy barriers and decorative floor thing thats everywhere
not everyone knows what radiant difficulty is so that's probably why it says no damage and putting things like "no damage" and "nohit" in your title and tags gets you more views lol
Yeah, I was relieved to see that not kill me. I had that sort of stagger happen before when I was fighting the Hollow Knight for a hitless run and I wasn't so lucky. Although not nearly as difficult a fight.
@Aidan Fields To parry, you have to strike at just the right frame of the enemy's attack animation. It's a very short window, and it's usually easier to just dodge. But if you pull it off, it gives you a brief moment of invincibility, allowing you to easily dodge the attack you just parried. _And, of course, it looks really, really cool._
One of my favourite animations in this game is when you stun pure vessel mid jump. Seeing is giant crouched body fly across the screen is a joy like no other.
You should of used thorns of agony for when you take damage And gathering swarm for all the geo And spore shroom for when you heal And hive blood so you can heal better And all the lifeblood/unbreakable heart charms for extra health And quick/deep focus for better healing And balder shell so you can heal safely And fury of the fallen for when you get to 1 health.
Something really interesting is that before you unlock them, the Pure Vessel is the only one in the Hall of Gods that does not use a personal pronoun when giving the description of where to find them, which makes sense considering they have no voice
I like the "god of nothingness" part, but the "Mighty" bothers me. It sounds off to me in tone (not meaning though - obviously the PV is very strong). I would have preferred something more descriptive and less generically applicable to almost every one of the bosses, like "tragic" or even quite simply, "empty" like the description says before PV is unlocked.
This honestly helped me out with the fight. Too many times I would dash towards him when he was throwing knives and would try to heal during his focus attack. Glad you could help retrain my brain
I mean for me i just shade clock trought everthing and try to brute force focus and focus during it cause for some reason i have a glitch where his focus do damage instantly and his attack seem a bit faster than usual
Watching boss fights such as this, NKG, and Absolute Radiance are what made me want to finally check out this game. Can't believe I never got around to it sooner. What a masterpiece!
@@manofdaboijerry7687 I wouldn’t say I simp for them, but yes yes PV very cool👍 Also unrelated but me and the boys recorded two very long videos of us playing HK (mostly without visuals unless I picked up my phone) and since it’s really hot rn we had a fan on, but the phone was next to the fan and after we had stopped playing HK and went to go check the videos you could barely hear anything because the fan messed the audio up😔 Both of the videos were over an hour long (one of them was almost two hours) and we lost most of it to weird fan noises. So now my phone has no storage space and I am a sad man.

Got the boss on Radiant! Whew! Setup was: Quick Slash, Unbreakable Strength, Shaman Stone, Mark of Pride. Your advice was very helpful! I also started doing better once I just double-jumped over the triple swipe before pogoing, and when I stopped rushing the boss after the third stagger (when they start using tentacles). I pogoed the boss once during the tentacle attack, but for the other two times it went out I just dashed to the far side of the arena. Thank you for the help!
@@CrankyTemplar I'm assuming that this was just before absorbing the infection. It may have been tainted by this point but barely. Also a question do you get the Pure Vessel statue after you encounter it once or do you have to beat it? I hope it's the former
That's certainly possible. You get Pure Vessel's statue (and any other new boss) once you encounter them in the pantheons, even if you die to them. This is pretty handy since Pure Vessel and Sly are pretty rough to do on your first try and it allows you to practice them.
somehow 3 mantis lords screaming at once isn't powerful enough to stun you but this vessels soundless scream can. anyways, i could prob never do this, this looks amazing
I always saw it as the PV was supposed to be the one to seal the radiance forever due to his numbness and purity. He supposedly doesn’t think, feel, or hope according to several dialogues so the radiance cannot manipulate him. The radiance infects dreams and emotions. However, as we see in the path of pain it seems the PV (the hollow knight) did develop feelings for his father-figure the pale king and therefore when he became the vessel the radiance was able to manipulate him and take advantage of him, which takes form as the infection and the infected sealed vessel. The PV was not pure in the end, he had feelings and was not a hollow knight. In this boss fight he is in the from he was supposed to be, pure and unfeeling. Rather than have mercy for the knight and attempt to kill himself, the vessel in this fight attempts to truly kill the knight to protect his duty of sealing the radiance as that is all he cares for or knows.
Exactly! Even here there are still unused dream nail lines that suggest that PV is doing it's best to remain pure, yet failing to do it. "Don't speak; Don't think; Don't hope; Don't...; ..." very sad but also very epic
The first time I saw my brother fight this boss in the pantheon of hallownest I tried to talk to him (we had been chatting on and off while he was playing) and he reached back and shushed me. I understood why when watching him play. The tone and difficulty of this fight compared to all before it was so drastically different. This is an incredible boss fight
I appreciate the Radiant Difficulty and the mention of no damage even though you have to take no damage on Radiant Difficulty because it's 1 hit kill difficulty.
Some bosses attack differently or have different environments on higher difficulties. I.E. hitless Gruz and hitless radiant Gruz are different. Though I think in this case the Pure Vessel is always the same on every difficulty so you are right.
I wanna come up with lyrics for pure vessel, either god seeker sings the first half, praising his power, and the king for making such a strong god of nothingness, preaching about how the knight shall be destroyed.....the other half is pure vessel, he sings of his pain, of how he wanted to make pail king proud, his guilt of feeling, questioning why he fights the knight, before ending on a somber “I’m sorry dad”, as the song fades with the radiance’s roar.
I mean I can technically say I've only ever beat this guy nail only If you imagine sharpshadowing through him as holding your nail forward Sharp Shadow has carried me through so many late game bosses
What gets me is in the world where Radiance wasn’t returning and causing the plague, the Pale King and White Lady’s kids could all survive, and they’d prolly all be able to grow into these relatively big and powerful bugs that are the offspring of two Higher Beings. And with the White Lady’s ability to lay/spawn so many eggs/seeds, they’d have a massive army of spawn prolly in the same numbers as the Vessels stuck in the Abyss. At that point, I wonder if Hollownest would even be able to support the entire royal family if they were all allowed to grow and survive (it’s possible the King and Queen might have controlled the number of offspring they have at a time but with the Queen basically always baby-crazy I wonder if PK could stop her lol).
Fun to see other strategies on this guy. Personally I just use a nail art after all his moves. Getting the dash slash during each time he shoots needles is really nice. Pretty sure thats the only way to hit him during that.
I love how similar this looks to when i fight him, the back jumps to dodge his leap, shadow dash the swords, parry/pogo his swing and pogo during the tendrils. Died so many times trying to figure it out, but to end up with almost the same movement as hitless made my day.
This battle is so intense, he is always close to you using attacks, and it is difficult to know where you are in the battle, this was so hard with all the bindings in the Pantheon of the Knight. We have a great difference in gameplay, i stick to the ground and use only the dash to evade most of it's attacks.
The first time i beat pantheon 4 i was down 5 masks and proceded to do pure vessel hitless for the very first time. Even when i had pactised pure vessel before, this is the most satisfying thing i have ever pulled off in a video game
I have noticed that the Vessel has a simmilar pattern attack with the soul warrior. Dash towards you, jump and attack down, stand still and throw proyectiles. In the dream nail dialogue of the Soul warriour it says that he doesn't remember learning these attacks, making it seem that it's the SOUL that makes him move like that. The vessel supposedly wouldn't have a will or a mind so teachng him something probably would be difficult? What if SOUL is what makes the hollow knight be able to attack?
People are all talking memes and stuff like "Oh U UsEd wAYwArd cOMpass tHaT's toO EasY!!!11" but is no one gonna talk about how impressive this is and how many tries it took Cranky? I can't even beat PV on ATTUNED!
Imagine if the hollow knight canonically fought the radiance directly and the player just kinda sat there and watched and then battled the winner. That would be epic as hell ;-;
i just realized this when watching: the player character is neither strong nor durable. it is just incredibly skilled and agile. Thus he can defeat foes far more stronger than itself.
I just beat Radiant Pure Vessel, in my opinion spells make the fight harder to complete, they stun you while using them so it makes it harder to maneuver. Just wanna say good job this fight is really hard.
Congrats on finishing it. I'd argue spells can make things a good bit easier as when PV dives you can pogo and DD easily. Plus when he focuses you have time to shade soul 1-2 times once you find a safe space. You can also abyss shriek during a dive without too much trouble. But it's not too rough to do without spells.
@@CrankyTemplar I mainly use a nail build, and spells for me make it unnecessarily hard, mainly vengeful spirit/shade soul. I never thought to use abyss shriek during his dive attack, but if he does start a sword swing attack afterwards you would be kinda stuck to take damage. However, that would be up to RNG. Also I can agree that DD is useful to avoid damage. I just don't like using spells during the fight so I don't.
Understandable. Abyss shriek actually is safer than you think on PV - you just position in the small gap between him and the spike and you have plenty of time to cast.
I remember seeing this and thinking “oh hey, that doesn’t look that hard. Just the Hollow Knight but a bit faster. I shouldn’t have too much trouble.” Then I reached the Fourth Pantheon’s Pinnacle, and realized that I was very, terribly, wrong.

That jump at 1:25 had me recoiling from fear. Collision damage is public enemy #1. Also that one time he almost landed on you after being staggered

I would have preferred something more descriptive and less generically applicable to almost every one of the bosses, like "tragic" or even quite simply, "empty" like the description says before PV is unlocked.
This honestly helped me out with the fight. Too many times I would dash towards him when he was throwing knives and would try to heal during his focus attack. Glad you could help retrain my brain

The knife attack of the vessel is new to me
I mean for me i just shade clock trought everthing and try to brute force focus and focus during it cause for some reason i have a glitch where his focus do damage instantly and his attack seem a bit faster than usual

Also unrelated but me and the boys recorded two very long videos of us playing HK (mostly without visuals unless I picked up my phone) and since it’s really hot rn we had a fan on, but the phone was next to the fan and after we had stopped playing HK and went to go check the videos you could barely hear anything because the fan messed the audio up😔
Both of the videos were over an hour long (one of them was almost two hours) and we lost most of it to weird fan noises. So now my phone has no storage space and I am a sad man.

Your advice was very helpful! I also started doing better once I just double-jumped over the triple swipe before pogoing, and when I stopped rushing the boss after the third stagger (when they start using tentacles).
I pogoed the boss once during the tentacle attack, but for the other two times it went out I just dashed to the far side of the arena. Thank you for the help!

Thank you, I was having such a hard time with the blades coming up from the ground, and this showed me a better way to deal with that move.

@@CrankyTemplar I'm assuming that this was just before absorbing the infection. It may have been tainted by this point but barely. Also a question do you get the Pure Vessel statue after you encounter it once or do you have to beat it? I hope it's the former
That's certainly possible. You get Pure Vessel's statue (and any other new boss) once you encounter them in the pantheons, even if you die to them. This is pretty handy since Pure Vessel and Sly are pretty rough to do on your first try and it allows you to practice them.

I always saw it as the PV was supposed to be the one to seal the radiance forever due to his numbness and purity. He supposedly doesn’t think, feel, or hope according to several dialogues so the radiance cannot manipulate him. The radiance infects dreams and emotions. However, as we see in the path of pain it seems the PV (the hollow knight) did develop feelings for his father-figure the pale king and therefore when he became the vessel the radiance was able to manipulate him and take advantage of him, which takes form as the infection and the infected sealed vessel. The PV was not pure in the end, he had feelings and was not a hollow knight.
In this boss fight he is in the from he was supposed to be, pure and unfeeling. Rather than have mercy for the knight and attempt to kill himself, the vessel in this fight attempts to truly kill the knight to protect his duty of sealing the radiance as that is all he cares for or knows.
this is almost the hollow knights dream fight if you will, the vessel it wanted and knew it had to be
Exactly! Even here there are still unused dream nail lines that suggest that PV is doing it's best to remain pure, yet failing to do it. "Don't speak; Don't think; Don't hope; Don't...; ..." very sad but also very epic

The first time I saw my brother fight this boss in the pantheon of hallownest I tried to talk to him (we had been chatting on and off while he was playing) and he reached back and shushed me. I understood why when watching him play. The tone and difficulty of this fight compared to all before it was so drastically different. This is an incredible boss fight
I appreciate the Radiant Difficulty and the mention of no damage even though you have to take no damage on Radiant Difficulty because it's 1 hit kill difficulty.
Some bosses attack differently or have different environments on higher difficulties. I.E. hitless Gruz and hitless radiant Gruz are different. Though I think in this case the Pure Vessel is always the same on every difficulty so you are right.

I wanna come up with lyrics for pure vessel, either god seeker sings the first half, praising his power, and the king for making such a strong god of nothingness, preaching about how the knight shall be destroyed.....the other half is pure vessel, he sings of his pain, of how he wanted to make pail king proud, his guilt of feeling, questioning why he fights the knight, before ending on a somber “I’m sorry dad”, as the song fades with the radiance’s roar.
Pure Vessel. The purest form of The Hollow Knight. Greatest defender of the kingdom... Only to get his head bounced on.

Sharp Shadow has carried me through so many late game bosses
Sharp shadow is not a charm I use often but it can be a lot of fun and quite useful.
What gets me is in the world where Radiance wasn’t returning and causing the plague, the Pale King and White Lady’s kids could all survive, and they’d prolly all be able to grow into these relatively big and powerful bugs that are the offspring of two Higher Beings. And with the White Lady’s ability to lay/spawn so many eggs/seeds, they’d have a massive army of spawn prolly in the same numbers as the Vessels stuck in the Abyss. At that point, I wonder if Hollownest would even be able to support the entire royal family if they were all allowed to grow and survive (it’s possible the King and Queen might have controlled the number of offspring they have at a time but with the Queen basically always baby-crazy I wonder if PK could stop her lol).

Fun to see other strategies on this guy. Personally I just use a nail art after all his moves. Getting the dash slash during each time he shoots needles is really nice. Pretty sure thats the only way to hit him during that.
I bet those white hooks on the shoulderplates of his armor at the start were meant to keep him suspended and tethered to the chains in the black egg.
The wayward compass flex is the best part of this by far lol

This boss gets a lot easier when you realize you can just jump over 90% of his attacks

honestly one of my fav radiant fights. I'll try and do this without charms
I love how similar this looks to when i fight him, the back jumps to dodge his leap, shadow dash the swords, parry/pogo his swing and pogo during the tendrils.
Died so many times trying to figure it out, but to end up with almost the same movement as hitless made my day.
This battle is so intense, he is always close to you using attacks, and it is difficult to know where you are in the battle, this was so hard with all the bindings in the Pantheon of the Knight. We have a great difference in gameplay, i stick to the ground and use only the dash to evade most of it's attacks.
The first time i beat pantheon 4 i was down 5 masks and proceded to do pure vessel hitless for the very first time. Even when i had pactised pure vessel before, this is the most satisfying thing i have ever pulled off in a video game

I'm being serious their effects are that strong
I have noticed that the Vessel has a simmilar pattern attack with the soul warrior. Dash towards you, jump and attack down, stand still and throw proyectiles. In the dream nail dialogue of the Soul warriour it says that he doesn't remember learning these attacks, making it seem that it's the SOUL that makes him move like that. The vessel supposedly wouldn't have a will or a mind so teachng him something probably would be difficult? What if SOUL is what makes the hollow knight be able to attack?
The peacefulness of this fight scares me
People are all talking memes and stuff like "Oh U UsEd wAYwArd cOMpass tHaT's toO EasY!!!11" but is no one gonna talk about how impressive this is and how many tries it took Cranky? I can't even beat PV on ATTUNED!

i just realized this when watching: the player character is neither strong nor durable. it is just incredibly skilled and agile. Thus he can defeat foes far more stronger than itself.

I just beat Radiant Pure Vessel, in my opinion spells make the fight harder to complete, they stun you while using them so it makes it harder to maneuver. Just wanna say good job this fight is really hard.
Congrats on finishing it. I'd argue spells can make things a good bit easier as when PV dives you can pogo and DD easily. Plus when he focuses you have time to shade soul 1-2 times once you find a safe space. You can also abyss shriek during a dive without too much trouble. But it's not too rough to do without spells.
@@CrankyTemplar I mainly use a nail build, and spells for me make it unnecessarily hard, mainly vengeful spirit/shade soul. I never thought to use abyss shriek during his dive attack, but if he does start a sword swing attack afterwards you would be kinda stuck to take damage. However, that would be up to RNG. Also I can agree that DD is useful to avoid damage. I just don't like using spells during the fight so I don't.
Understandable. Abyss shriek actually is safer than you think on PV - you just position in the small gap between him and the spike and you have plenty of time to cast.
