Hi this is Omar the original guitarist, just wanted to say that Charles Padro is alive and well, it was Fudgie Solomon who passed away back in the 70s and earlier this year the frontman Lou Wilson, who we all miss greatly. I did do a show with them in Florida about 3 years ago and it was great, just like old times....rip Lou
Omar Mesa Is Mandrtill still performing? My soul aches for the music these guys put out. Would love to attend one of their concerts and listen to some real music. I’ve always wondered where do all of the great 70’s groups disappear to.
Special thanks from all of us in the US Virgin Islands! Funny story...one day back in the 70s, some musician buddies and I were sitting in a car getting high and listening to a tape on a Sony cassette player. The song "Git It All" came on and the keyboard player in the band literally busted out of the car. Scared the living crap out of us. He would later say that he had never heard the song before, and that the "drive" in the song was too much for him. The band would later play that song at all local shows and dances. One of my favorite Mandrill tunes!
I saw you guys in the early 70s at Springfield College WOW! I love the Bass and Fudgie was rocking this fretless bass you all were off the charts. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the great music!
When "Fencewalk" came out I was freshman in highschool and we thought Santana,War, and Kool and the Gang was good as it got. Then the Mandrill sound hit. Can't put my finger on it, but you guys would take us places that we're hard to duplicate. Loved your Solo's. Thanks.
Underrated group. Over shadowed by War, nonetheless talented. Never got their true due. This was one of my favorite songs by Mandrill. The album version was way too short!
Some serious musicians here! My man looking like Curly Howard's son, dressed like the squarest of squares, in short pants w/ tie-die shirt and dark shoes..... is a monster & his solo here is a magnificent thing.
MANDRILL is My favorite Band Group......these guys were Ahead of there times.....In my HS days I was turned on to MANDRILL when I 1st heard them on WBLS Radio Station in NYC.... They Covers EVERY Thing Musically.....Jazz...R&B... Rock....Latin...Soul..and even spells of Classical Music... The Members were the Wilson Bros(Lou..Ric and Carlos....Wilfredo joined later)..Claude Cave...Omar Mesa...Charles Padro...Bundy Cenas..Fudgie Kae...Neftali Santiago...then members began to change around their 3rd and 4th Albums... I have All their Original Albums from MANDRILL up to New World in sequence...then I missed the later ones... BET need to do an Unsung episode on this Multi - Talented group.. They even have a Doctor in the group...Ric " Doc" Wilson(Cardiologist).. "Peace and Love"...... Rip (Lou)...Rip (Fudgie)....
Mandrill can play it all...Funk to Rock, Silk to Soul and of course the Latin jams. I was blessed to be able to see Mandrill live circa 1973. It's an experience I will NEVER forget. They are just incredible! I was so happy to find and purchase the Live in Montreux DVD and I have several of their albums. If the opportunity to see them live presents itself, I can tell you....they are not to be missed. One of my favorite groups of all time.
badddd asssss i saw these guys at universal studios i grew up playing this and Santana and war ballero love it latino funk afro god given music peace too all
It's cool that nobody overplays on their solos - just enough to stay in the groove. I have my original vinyl copy of "Composite Truth" which I bought on faith without hearing the music (what we did back then...lol). Of all the songs "Polk Street Carnival" moved me most as I never heard calypso/soca before. Later I went to Montreal's Carib-Fete and realized that's what they were playing.
I would never forget i was a young lad beong recruited by loder cats who turned me on to these cats R.I.P. to the members who are gone to me great music peace.
El grupo aparece aquí mas definido en cuanto a ritmo, con mas montuno y una carga de jazz latino, buscando la fusión de aires del caribe, supe que eran de Jamaica y quizás les interesó ese mercado.
three Wilson Bros, Neftali Santiago drumming and the repertoire...bands go through personnel changes, Mandrill did and kept their sound true. I respectfully disagree with you.
Uh... the Wilson Brothers ARE Mandrill. Neftali Santiago (drummer) was their drummer since the 3rd album (original drummer Charles Padro passed away I believe,) "Coffee" Cave (keyboardist) is not here unfortunately. Neither is Omar Mesa (guitar) and Bundie Cenas (Bass). Bundie was replaced after the 2nd or 3rd album as well so Mandrill always had a fluid membership except for the Brothers' Wilson.
Good job you didn't say better than WAR, Mandrill are funkier, deeper and more soulful than WAR, period, and no band needs to be recognized, that just means they become boring, because millions of boring people like them, gold is rare, so is great music.
I heard a band in San Diego ca in 1992 my girlfriend and I was celebrating our third anniversary together and the beat is similar to them...💯💕🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃🦻🎵😍
This is a great song it's too bad he talks way too long they should have got into the singing part right away he talked way too long kind of ruined the song
