Great Quartet with good tecording with a wonderful performance. A very thoughtful quartet. Very approachable music. Chromatic but not modern atonal. Glad this is posted. It's important.

I am glad it was posted or else I might have not heard it on the radio. Beautiful music.

This is a magnificent String Quartet. The first movement is serene, yes, to the point of sadness. The second movement's "A" section recalls Shostakovich, but not the "B" section, which is pure Ben-Haim, and when the "A" section returns, it is somehow shorn of the formerly mentioned influence. The third movement 'largo' is slightly reminiscent of a more famous one by Dvorak; I wonder if Ben-Haim was purposeful or only accidental in his allusion. The fourth movement 'rondo' may utilize a Hebrew folk melody, albeit a melancholy one. And so this captivating work ends as it began, beautiful and suffused with deep emotion.
