Santa Fe Warbonnet B40-8Ws Around Chicago!

- On August 15th, 2023, the Chicago area was blessed with two BNSF (ex-Santa Fe) B40-8W leaders still wearing original Warbonnet paint! First was R-CHI452 heading west through Lisle on the Racetrack with BNSF 554 leading. The train originated at Eola and was returning back west from Western Avenue Yard in Chicago. Afterwards I headed south to catch L-CHI102 passing through Lemont on the Chillicothe Sub. BNSF 552 was in the lead of this train, and it also had a rare GP60B second out! I decided to chase 552 into Joliet where it was working the BNSF yard along the Des Plaines River. Another Santa Fe unit, bluebonnet SD40-2 #1755, was idling on one of the yard tracks. It was pretty cool to see two Santa Fe locomotives side by side on home rails in 2023!

That’s some scary truck hunting in the beginning
Very cool Sam! Just today I was driving past the Metra station in Cicero, where I spotted a BNSF SD70MAC in the Executive paint scheme coupled to a Ferromex SD70ACE .I haven't seen neither of these engines in years.
Thanks! I might have heard about that train! I was down in Riverdale at the Cleveland Cliffs steel mill flying my drone today.
@@SamLovesTrains Wow! Another of my favorite railfan spots.
3:30is a very cool piece of drone work.
Thanks! Figured it’d make for an unique angle.
Nice video!
Glad you enjoyed!

2:05Now that's an interesting consist.
As always, great drone work.
Is it me or was it wobbling at the beginning of the video is that bad?
The start of the video looked rock-solid to me.
Not just you. I noticed the thing was wobbling a lot too.

This is a wonderful video, Sam! I am glad that you were able to be in the right place at the right time to capture these former Santa Fe engines still in Santa Fe paint schemes. That first engine did have a very faded red warbonnet paint scheme though.
Awesome capture
Thank you!
