question of the day - have you tried making homemade tofu yet? if so how'd you like it? and if not, do you think you'd give this kit a try? lmk in the comments! 🤪
Is it common/possible to add flavorings to tofu? I was thinking things like minced truffle. This might be totally against Japanese traditions lol, I’m unsure. Thanks anyway!
Hey Pat, i will get this press for sure. i like that it is wood. i can also use it for a vegan cheese press. Also, what are the ingredients of the Nigari? is it mushrooms? is it vegan? and when the tofu is in the pressing stage (for firm tofu), can it be in the fridge? thanks.
I am in the process of making homemade tofu right now. I'm using a plastic tofu set that came with my SoyaJoy pitcher. So far, it looks like a success, but the press is about half the size of the one in your video, so I just started searching for larger ones. I will consider buying the set in your video. This was a fun process, and I can't wait to taste it. I saw this video after it's already been chilling, or I would have tasted it while still warm. Next time! I enjoyed your video!
I came here for design inspiration in making my own tofu box, and I am fascinated that one of your boxes appears to have two of the sides assembled upside down.
@@alldayieatlikeashark At 2:19 you can see what I am talking about more clearly. The box that is sitting on the counter has holes on its short sides near the top and holes on its long sides near the bottom. If you flip it over, the holes on the long sides will be near the top and the other holes will be near the bottom. If you compare this with the other box in your hand, you can see that the sides (which I assume are glued together) were assembled differently. I imagine that there's sufficient drainage thanks to the slats in the (removable) bottom, so it really doesn't matter. Thank you for the video!
I searched the RUclips for a decent tofu making kit to start making tofu at home. I wanted something in wood and well designed. That's how I found your channel and I will trust you on the purchase suggestion: I will buy the item through your link to support your channel. I will also watch more of your videos.
Hey Pat! I recently bought my first wooden tofu mold from Aliexpress, and i am waiting for my order to arrive! I don't know what material is used for it,and a review said it is pine wood. But regardless, what should i do when i get it,to maybe disinfect and make it ready to use? And is there anything else about the wooden mold that i should be aware of before using it for the first time? Also,i don't think one needs two of these, since you can press the extra water for 15-30 minutes and then put the other block to press. The most 'difficult'/time consuming job, which is the soymilk coagulating has already been done, and it's just a matter of some minutes to prepare both. After all, from what i see and can tell,it must hold a lot of tofu if pressed super firm. Thank you for the video and for any possible answer you could give me 🙏
Perfect. Thank you :). Def New Sub. Can you please do a video about looking after your tofu mold and prolonging it's lifespan, please ??? eg.. can you oil it with natural oil etc..
@@alldayieatlikeashark I'm vegan.. I'm premed.. and vegan for animals .. But since I care about my health ... Possible low pressure cheese press? I’m not sure if there would be a use for a low pressing pressure in cheese making but that’s what I could think of. Anyway, thanks for the well done video!
You could easily use this box for a cheese mold and add more weight to press. With cheese, you're flipping the curds in the mold anyway. A lighter weight is used for some semi-hard cheeses, and you could use just about anything for weights. Definitely wouldn't work for a hard cheese that needs a lot of pressure, though.
@@patriotsongs While this channel is plant oriented, please forgive me, but can also be used for any kind of pressed gelatinised loafs, typically pressed meats and brawns, but there could be plant-based meat substitute options worth considering. I'm particularly thinking of stuffed kombu, vine, cabbage, or spinach leaves, and lasagne-like layered dishes.
Hi there. I received this tofu press yesterday and yes, it has a nice smell. But I don't know how much ml of liquid nigari I have to use when I used 500gr of dried soya beans? I received the press with some plastic tubes of liquid nigari but unfortunately I don't read Japanese. Can you help me out please... To give you an idea, I use 500gr of dried beans together with 3.5 liter of water.
Do you make your tofu with dry beans? I usually make soy milk first then I add the nigari but it depends on how soft I want my tofu too. You can get tofu recipes on my blog alldayieat.com. I hope this helps.
I know this video is a couple years old but is there any chance you have a scanned copy of the instructions for this yamako tofu maker kit? I know it's in Japanese, I was able to figure it out but my cat ate the copy I had and I tried following generic recipes and it didn't come out nearly as well as when I used the instructions that came with the kit. You would be my hero 🙏
Thank you so much for your review. Question...how exactly are you washing the tofu box? Do you just rinse it or wash with soap and water? Thank you. I just started making tofu and I'm hooked.
You can gently rinse it with mild soap and water, just make sure to dry it properly. Since its wood, store it in a dry cupboard and avoid leaving in damp storage. How is you tofu-making experience so far?
@@alldayieatlikeashark It's certainly been a learning experience. I did not realize that the soy milk temp affects how it coagulates. I've also been told that nigari works better than gypsum so I'll try that. I have been able to get enough curds to form a tofu block. Love the taste vs store bought.

I’ve never made tofu. I would consider using this kit! I like the fact it is made of this wood.

They are 3 separate pieces, so it can be turned upside down easily 😊

Why does my tofu come out a pit creamy not solid enough? Too much water? Or kind of soya bean?
Praise the LORD for creating pulse seeds!

Btw..are you vegan/vegetarian??
I’ve not gone entirely plant based, but more pescatarian and flexitarian. How about you?

How do you clean the cloths? mild soap & water with rinsing? air dry?
just dish soap and water! make sure to remove any remnants + dry thoroughly! did you end up getting one?
