This was my first experience with D&D. My friend got this box and DM’d for us. I loved breaking out of jail at the beginning of the adventure. Such a great way to start.

This is my go-to version for D&D.

I remember the first time getting this ( I was 8 or 9) and playing the solo tutorial, my mind was blown and my imagination was running rampant.

I agree with you about the games needing to be used.

Great find! I still have my black box set and use some of the figures and tokens as well. Sadly the box isn’t in as great shape. This was the set I learned to play D&D on. For some reason as a kid I couldn’t grasp the rules in the Red Box but those dragon cards in the Black Box laid everything out so easily. Our first campaigns were a mix of home brew and Thunder Rift (with all the modules and the three boxed sets they made). Good times. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for watching. I used to drool over the adds for Thunder Rift book, came pretty close to buying it the other day.

I also had the Black Box as a child. 👍
Would you make a more indebt (longerk) review of it, please? If you get the expansions, please make videos on these as well.
    Thanks you. 😃

Dude, last week I finished running 3 people through Zanzer's dungeon! They had a blast! I used 5th ed rules, and they generated their character in stages like the adventure dictates (you can only become a class if you've reached the room for that class). For picking their races, I had certain encounters trigger the opportunity to become a certain race (you can start as a human, but you have to wait for the sprites to call you Elf-Friend to be an elf, the gnomes to call you cousin, etc). I also tied encountering certain items unlocking classes (the armor room just outside the jail could make you a fighter, the boss could make you a Ranger, holy water cleric, and I added items to allow for the other 5th ed classes). It worked really well. I did nerf the monsters until the PCs picked their classes, because a 5th ed hobgoblin against 3 0th level humans with 6 HP and no weapons is not a fair fight.
    Thanks for this review!

Are the rules in the Black Box different from BECMI or was it basically just a repackaging?

Similar but different at certain points
