Sure, you get access to cards teferi but I love the idea or having mana maze in play and as a jook Pyroblast a blue or even a green player with mana maze up and they can't respond or to add insult to injury have mana maze and painter then play hibernation you get back servent and mana maze but they gotta play there entire hand the following turn
Painter is my favorite archetype in part because you can stick the core combo in so many random weird shells like this. The synergy with Mana Maze is hilarious and makes it even better. It's always fun to see new janky Painter variants!
I had a donor submit a Mana Maze-painter deck last year sometime. It was quite different and ran Bant with a minor splash for black for Leovold. It had ice-fangs because it was pre-bowmasters and had an Ephemerate+Eternal Witness lock so you could Mana-maze lock your opponent permanently. Very spicy but like you said, Mana Maze is a pretty cool and unique card that can do some odd stuff to a game of MTG and it's nice to see people tinkering with it.
The one thing I'm surprised is how no one has realized painter servant and mana maze has text with cards like pyroblast and r.e.b. like then this just becomes one giant grind match and the fact that you can cast essentially everything while they're essentially locked out makes for some interesting games
This deck has such a cool concept underneath it, but like you noted, it just kept falling short. I wonder if it might be helped to cut one of the colours and lean more in to the painter maze: some amount of faster mana, mb Hydroblasts (like red painter playing pyro) or more prison-y elements. But then I guess that just starts to look like the 8cast painter deck 🤔
Traditional Painter players, how is the Lands matchup? Is it bad with their inherent graveyard hate? I would think that that would be the weakness of this deck, with abilities (Urzas Saga, Boseiju, etc.) getting through Mana Maze as well
Thinking about it, both Cephalid Breakfast and Painter are UW control with Combo wins. Whats the reason people chose Breakfast over Painter? It takes more cards in your deck, you sometimes draw bullshit like Narcomoeba and the combo isnt more resilient than painter.
Do you mean to put the Mana Maze combo in or to put Painter combo into UW instead of it's usually R(b) shell? Painter is more fragile - instant removal always works on it, it has to have both an artifact and creature, there's less redundancy, Grindstone has an activation cost
Normally in non-blue matchups you name blue for your forces. Black is sometimes named because of snuff out. Red doesn't really have an upside unless you're playing BEB but that's also a "why?"
As the creator of the deck you already have alot of removal. The bant version plays hydro for a infinite eternal witness ephemrate loop but is worse since bow masters
at 49:45, you minused teferi to try and find an instant, but you could have just plussed teferi and cast ponder at instant speed.

If bowmasters had reach instead of flash it would be a lot more fair, which is a good thing
