    A little about us:
In September 2015, our hearts were hijacked with the dream of living on a large farm, with community, growing food, caring for animals and loving on children in need of care and healing. It was a God moment, where our dreams collided with His dreams… a dream so big we could never do it in our own strength and wisdom. Since then, we have been on a journey to see that dream become a reality. This channel documents that journey.

Looks like I'm late to the party. My new raised bed is in my Bermuda grass back yard. Can't wait till that junk pokes its head through my garden soil. I didn't put any barrier down under the raised garden because I wanted the night crawlers (my yard is thick with them) to get into the garden. Looks like I will need to watch your old videos for relevant info for raised bed gardening. THANK YOU for sharing!

I'm glad i watched a few more videos since the building video such as this one. The initial idea of such a high bed was appealing but i questioned the amending upkeep and especially the amount of water it would require which is a legitimate financial concern once the rain totes empty. I guess my suspicions were correct 😅. Plus a lot of wasted area as most plants won't grow roots nearly deep enough to facilitate the need.
I'm going to make them half the height with an open bottom over cleared bare earth. I can't do a complete inground but i think this will be a great compromise for me. Thank you for the update. Live and learn

Omg, I just built my first 2 of these raised beds (the new and improved) this weekend. Installing hardware cloth on bottoms today to keep the voles out…then I see this!🤯

No worries, the only reason we switched was strictly based on our gardening preferences. Just have a good watering method, top the soil off every year and add some good amendments and it will work out great!

Great, because I have a river bordering two sides of my 11 acres and need raised beds to keep the garden from being flooded when we have heavy rains.

I plant in the ground for those very reasons. Plants do so much better in the ground

Hi there! I just built my first. 2 ft by 4 ft raised tin garden bed, and I put chicken wire and ground clips on the ground floor to keep out ground rodents. I thank you for showing how much the logs and branches have deteriorated over the 3 years. I am putting in some decomposed logs to fill a portion of the first 2 feet or so and will then cover them with clipped grass and chicken manure and the straw from their yard before covering it with topsoil and soil amends. Am I missing anything? Thanks for suggestions. God bless!

I feel like this guy just doesn't know how to take care of his soil do some composting mixing a little compost at the end of the season. There's no need for all this nonsense redoing everything

That being said, of course I do believe that doing it in the market garden style it is more economical and easier in the long run so he probably did make a good choice

I'm not disagreeing with your composting idea. In general I make and use compost. I have small garden. It might be difficult to make enough compost for the 20 (20?) raised beds. He does have some bigger toys (skid Steer) that could be used but perhaps finding enough organic matter to make the huge volume of compost is daunting. I also add organic fertilizer to feed the plants while the decomposition process ties up the nutrients in the soil.
