I accept this explanation. I found it very peaceful to do deep work in these hours. I must admit that it will be hard in the first few days but it's going to be worth it.
As a major night owl, you’ve made one of the most compelling cases for waking up earlier. Or, maybe your wink at the end just got me like it does every time.
Why? I wake up at 5:40, make my bed, drink a small bottle of water, meditate for 20 minutes, go for a 30-minutes-long run (during which I listen to an audiobook), shower, have breakfast, and I am ready to begin my work/school day at 7:10. That being sad, I go to bed at 10 p.m. and have solid 7 hours and 30 minutes of sleep which falls into the recommended range of 7-9 hours of sleep. (tip: morning exercise improves sleep quality and reduces falling-asleep-time)
I started waking up early about a year ago and the thing about working on your own projects before going to work is absolutely true. It has made a drastic difference in improving my mental well-being and I am much less miserable while I’m at my job. Seriously, the ripple effects of this benefit alone have made a incredible difference in my life.
Because I work 12 hour days it’s not really feasible to give myself a full 2 hours in the morning and at night without sacrificing sleep, but I do like to wake up a little earlier than I “need” to so that I’m never rushing in the mornings. Taking my time to get ready, make and eat breakfast, and basically care for myself helps me feel like my life isn’t totally consumed by work, and like I didn’t just wake up to go to work, but to actually live a day of my life.
Once upon a recent winter morning, my phone alarm clock woke me up at the appointed hour. Groggy, I picked it up, silenced the alarm, then Googled "can human beings hibernate?" The answer was no. My answer to that was impolite, to say the least.
Great video! I have fought for years to maintain I am a night person... but the worst day ever today has made me realize I have to start the day off right!
I couldn't imagine getting up at 4am right now in the middle of winter. I wake up at 6am on weekdays for work, which is nice in the summer when the sun is already up... but sunrise tomorrow is 8:52am! I need that sun to energize me!
Exactly! I think this advice is good for certain areas of the world. Why would I wake up 5 hours before sunshine, to me that’s not « waking up early » it’s just « waking up in the middle of the night » or having a weird and messed up sleep schedule
I think if you don’t need to wake up this early because you have something to do, and the sun isnt up yet, then it probably will be better for you to wake up later, when the sun rises, bc that’s the natural circadian rhythm. I’m trying to wake up at sunrise and settle down at sun set. ❤️
Exactly because of the reasons you stated in your 2nd reason, I shifted to being a morning person last summer. I used to have a bunch of activities after work, which I would go to regardless of my will-power. But since things been closed up during the pandemic, I just started wasting the time after work on consumption instead. It was after some introspection during summer that I reached the same conclusions as your point and just decided to switch my day-cycle. Much happier with my weekday now! :)
I work as a farmhand on a dairy farm and wake up at 2 every morning, then go to school as soon as i get home! Im amazed at how much this changed my life for the better!
This. Video! I've been getting up at 5am since 2017. I love it so much. It's hard to get out of bed sometimes, especially when it's cold and dark outside, but it's my favourite time of day! I journal, meditate, exercise, create and have the loveliest time ever! Thank you for making this video.
I have phases where I wake up early and phases where i can't get out of bed. Your video gave me the kick i needed to start a new phase of waking up early again. with yoga and meditation and journaling and reading about buddhism. Have been at it for a few days now and wanted to come back and thank you for the inspiration. I already feel calmer and more mindful
The music is great. I've always had a terrible sleep pattern, but quarantine really fucked it up even more. I love the feeling of waking up early, but hate adjusting to it. Your vid really helped get me back in the mood to try again. Have a lovely week
I saw your video and this morning was my first try with waking up at 4. Waking-up was not the hard part but after 1 hour of working I fell asleep again. I will keep going and give it a try for at least a month to get used to it. The good news is normally in a day I can concentrate for half a hour and now I have finished 1 hour of work before the world has woken-up. So my work has already doubled. Specially after lunch I get very lazy and I believe that this could help me very much once I get used to it. Thank you for inspiring me 💚
Maaaan, I became all about that early 4am wakeup life during summer but the cold dark winter days make it so hard. Going to give it another go now that Spring is just around the corner; thanks for the motivation.
First year university student here. You've convinced me. I had been thinking about shifting my schedule for a while but this was the sign I needed. Im attempting 6am wakeup this month.
All the five steps are so relatable. The second one "if you consume more than create" hit me hard. I really need a change. Thank you for this, I just need to learn to wake up earlier, it is so difficult now when I'm only at home whole day and no rush to anywhere..
Ley Kim I love doing that, as well! I haven’t in a while. This makes me remember how it feels, and I am motivated to start getting up earlier now. Thank you! ✨
Productivity as a form of self care, thank you for providing some validation for me in this!! I try not to measure my self worth by my productivity levels, but truly I feel best when I feel productive.
I started waking up at 5-5.30am and I'm loving it now I'm in a routine. I love giving myself time to wake up before work, a hot drink, the sunrise...you are so right on about fearing that chaos! It's winter right now so it's a little easier to go to bed early so we shall see over summer! Without a routine I would slip into my natural day sleeper rhythm so I'm happy I have something that works.
Circadian rhythms are different for everyone. My most restful sleep is between 4a-8a, if I only sleep then I can do amazingly better than going to sleep by 10p and getting up at 6-7a. It's crazy, but true. I do have children, so that has made a huge impact. I have been able to shift an hour back and wake at 7-ish. I will be re-watching this because I really want to get more done and those early hours are so peaceful and could be really productive! Thanks for this video!!
My "me time" at night was the only thing that was keeping me from shifting my sleep schedule, and this video helped me change this. Thank you - I am ASTONISHED at how much more energy I have now. Much love!
Love waking up early. It's the best time to workout before other things become a convenient excuse as to why I am unable to workout. Feels amazing starting the day already feeling accomplished. 4:20am is my up time unless I wake up a bit earlier. I journal in bed, exercise, wash up, and then go downstairs to "start" the rest of the day. I love the quiet first thing Keep up the good content.
1:54 lol I'm not leaving my house before sunrise, that's a sure way to get mugged or assaulted, I'll stay inside until there are ppl out ... sure sounds nice to feel safe enough to go outside without a care
Lol I'm so happy to live in a small place in one of the safest countries in the world, I can go out for a walk at any time of the day. And during winter it is dark from 4 pm to 10 am so we have to go out during dark time as well or we go out never.
@@titatesta4577 I live in Finland :) It's cold but not many people around so it is pretty safe! And yeah I get it, big cities are usually always a bit dangerous :/ Do you have to go by car to everywhere to be safe or how do you move around outside?
I just wanna say, I watched this a couple months ago, and slowly adjusted my sleep schedule (I was already waking up at 8am and 6am during school), and now I wake up... at 4am. I do wake up with my husband who wakes up at that time but it actually is nice to wake up and enjoy the quiet!
My alarm rings at 4:44 if I'm not already up. I love how quiet my apartment is. I feel more at peace. I love going to bed early too. I watch Tv but only on demand.. no commercials!
Yes! I hear you about the funk!! Yes! All of the things... late night eating, consumption (doom scrolling), feeling alone and sad! I'm way better in the morning! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love the video! It's actually funny to hear you say "go out at 4 A.M." to get some physical exercise, in Belgium we have curfew from midnight to 5 A.M. And elsewhere in EU the curfews are way more strict than that.
@@r4.v3n Yes indeed, all over EU. Off the top of my head, I think France has curfew at 19.00 or something, very early in the evening. The Netherlands has curfew at 21.00, I think, it's very early compared to ours, and it was very sudden: there were few strict measures before and then suddenly everything got sooo strict and people lashed out with lots of protests and violence, which in turn inspired some people in Belgium to protest and vandalise as well. I could be wrong but this is what I remember seeing on the news.
I am a morning person, I usually wake up between 4:40- 5:30 am, without an alarm I love my mornings, I use it as ME time. The world is quiet, I reflect on my day, have my morning coffee, I am watching you right now as I drink my morning coffee, I have two hours before my husband wakes up, then we go for a walk, and the day begins. My problem is I don’t go to sleep till 11pm,, sometimes even later .I used to worry I don’t get enough sleep, but I just decided to not think about my lack of sleep, and just that think I don’t require a lot of sleep. I am busy all day, I walk over 10,000 steps. I wish I could go to bed and fall sleep at 9 pm, that would be wonderful.
I love the advice here. I answered yes to 4 out of the 5 scenarios. I'm going to try these techniques SO THAT my day can start awesome, less stressful, and I can have time for the things that I love most before I serve others.
Been doing this for the past 4 months. I am in nursing school and my grades have gone up significantly and my performance at clinicals have also improved, I have time to workout for an hour everyday, time to cook everyday and time to even spend with my family. I highly recommend it!
i got this in my recommendation and clicked it , now i really wanna wake up early like i used to be. 2020 made a lazy slump , but this video has reminded me of my past . thanks a lot :)
I love waking up early when the world is quiet, but since it is still dark out I feel blah & less energetic. I like to wake up to sunshine filling my room. Love the music ✌🏽🖤
My grandparents in Vietnam woke up at 4 am everyday to make sure they get to church at 5 am. I always thought they were crazy but they're pushing their 90s and still walking, talking, living on their own with no issues at all. Maybe that's the secret to a long life?
i hv came across few articles with some scientific explanation that the air during that hours hv some health benefits. That may hv effect them . I will continue to do the same
Thank you for making this video!!! I live alone and work at home all day, and all of this is applicable for me. I've been wanting to do this for a long time but this feels like it gives me real legitimate reasons to do so. You're the best!
Thank you for your perfect timing. I've just fallen into the position whereby I finally have the wherewithal to follow through on this but didn't know where to start. 💛
I've been wanting to keep waking at 4:30am, it's a tough schedule to follow when not meeting to sleep before 10pm. But with all of these extra reason of self care and being single, this definitely encourages me to stick to it, apart from all the major benefits of waking before the sun rises. Thanks for the Awesome video! Can't wait for part 2!
I've started trying to get up earlier on weekdays so that I can give myself time for a walk before sitting down to work at 9AM (currently working from home). I think it definitely boosts my mental state in the morning and usually my productivity. I'd often prefer to do the walk at lunch to break up the day but I find that it's like what you said in the video... If I commit to it in the morning then it's been taken care of. It's often too easy to let the afternoon slip by and keep saying, "I'll go soon or maybe after work..." Committing to the morning is the only way I've been able to be pretty consistent about it.
@@mindoablues It's been chilly some days but I've been trying to force myself anyway. Today with the wind chill it was 16F but I did it! hah Don't see too many people but I don't know if that's because of the cold or because people just don't do a lot of walking around in our neighborhood. Time will tell as the weather gets warmer!
As a artist and creator. My work creativity is from 11pm to 8 am. I dod this because no phone calls, and distractions that happen all day when the sun is up. Some need others to get them moving. Many I know wake up early 7am just becasue most do that. Fitting into society. Like people who need to live in city , cause they need people and feeling of being apart of it. Feel it depends on who you are family, needing to work buisness hours etc. I have no waking time or schedule. I also haev gaev up relationships to finish my goals in creating my art dreams. I make goals, but putting time limits and routine I feel traps me in something I dont want. If I was getting tons work done on art or in zone. I can't stop and say I need to go to bed , cause need to wake up at this time. Im not like most. I also since child can not sleep well. I suffer from racing brain . Ever since kid I can not sleep. Feel change though and routine has great benifits to certain people. Love these videos Lefie. You rock!!!!
I have always absolutely dreaded mornings because I'd never sleep very well, but it took me a whole life of insomnia and being late all the time to notice that. I can't stress enough how important it is to have a good healthy sleep routine, and we all should pursue it even harder than exercising and eating healthy, as I saw myself the damage sleep deprivation can inflict to someone's mental health. After years fighting depression I finally stopped resisting sleep, and the idea of waking at 4 or 5 am seems ideal for living in the daylight amidst other human beings while still being able to enjoy some of the quiet, dark, alone time I've grown to love so much at late night. YET OMFG IT'S SO HARD! Looking forward for your tips on that, cause for now, as convinced as I am of the benefits, still can't make a lot of progress on that without losing it all when the weekend comes and my roommate hands me a beer or I just feel like playing "only one more level"...
You could not have said it any better, I wake up at 4am to write my own applications and start work at 6am and try to get done with work by 3pm, I always feel like a champion when my colleagues start working and I am half way done with my tasks. Thank you for explaining this I'm this manner and I have shared this with friends that used to think I am crazy. Also staying alone and being an introvert made me a DIY junkie, so yes I resonate with almost everything mentioned. That being said it is not 2035 hours and it my bed time.
I love waking up early so I can go to the gym (whenever they're open) . Currently recuperating from Covid but starting my day with exercise sets the tone for the rest of the day 😎🙌🏻 Feeling spoiled with another great video 🤗
"but nothing is going on at night right now" Ah I see, you haven't met the online gamers :D But jokes aside, I rarely have a good sleeping rhythm but always found when I happen to wake up at 4-5 am I actually didn't mind it and found it quiet relaxing that the world is so silent at that time :D
I was already thinking about starting my days earlier since I have early classes every day this semester, and you have only helped solidify that idea further.
The idea is ingenious. In my world it has only one problem - my wife and kids had this idea before me and are annoyed every time I disturb their morning rest, routines and solitude. It is hopeless 😆
Thank you for this. It made me concretely realize that with my 12 hour working days, I really don’t have the time to add anything else in on my work days. So I can lose the guilt for those days, and concentrate on making my non work days more productive.
I've tried going to bed earlier and got up at 3am for a while. It was glorious. The kids were still sleeping, everything was so calm and peaceful. I loved it. But right now with a baby it's just not possible. But i will try again when he's a little older!
Love the music. I used to be a complete night owl, but I've shifted to enjoying mornings more. My favorite time is between 5 to 5:30 am to wake. But sound carries in the apartment I share with my roommate. She's disabled so mornings are physically painful for her. So, even if I wake up early, I get very little done.
Funny observation (I'm warped): I tripped over and watched your van build videos a couple of weeks ago. I didn't subscribe because I was only in it for the brief van series. You cut your hair during the build. "Whoa! Okay, change is good," I thought. Today, I ran across this video. "Hey, I recognize her. Let's give her a view." Good stuff! I'm often awake at 4am because of sleeping problems, even if I'm up until midnight. Perhaps I need to commit to going to bed early. If I do, then 4am will be a cinch. Anyway, my "funny observation" is that, from my brief perspective, you've changed so much back and forth (hair length) that's it's all happening right before my eyes very quickly. I can't quite describe what I feel, but it's been fun to watch. I know you're not here to amuse us with your hair styles. But it's a first impression on each video. My hairstyle hasn't changed in 20 years. I'm boring that way. But it's also part of why I notice changes. Now that I get that your channel is about minimalism, I think I'll subscribe and see what's next (and watch more of your older content). I WANT to be a minimalist, but my wife does not. So, I'm stuck with a bunch of stuff in my life. But I can dream! HAHA! Sorry about the ramble. I hope it's taken well. OH - Do you still have the van?
Oops! Just saw that your most recent van video is only a few months old. I watched it last month and forgot that it was yours (I've watched a lot of Transit videos lately). So, the question of whether you still have it is answered! :-) Take Care!
Started waking at half 4 for about a week now and it's had such a big impact on my productivity and satisfaction by the end of the day it's almost unbelievable. I recommend everyone try it even if you are not an early bird. The benefits far outweigh the grogginess, and if you can sleep by even half 10 then you're golden ✨
Awesome .. Yes it does tick all the boxes for me.. Except I have kids: occasionally I did wake up super early and found it to be more productive as I home school and don't have enough time to myself. Defo gonna trial this for long term. Thanks lefie 👍
I haven't tried the "do it for a week" method, but I'm reading a lot of comments saying "I'm a night owl, this won't work for me"... and, honestly, I feel the same way. But maybe we should give it a try! Thanks for your videos Lefie, they are always so captivating & inspiring! Hope everyone is keeping safe! > 'till next time 😉
creation in the morning, for myself, absolutely true point! Also the other reasons, very well told. And the book recommendation look very interesting, especially The nocturnal brain 🤩 Although, I do hang out with friends online regularly, in the evenings^^
I love that the music is a jam but also soothing. :) I'm gonna try to work on projects for myself in the mornings now, ty. Also i am enjoying watching the process of your hair growing out as i slooooooowly grow out mine too lol
You read my mind The bad latenight choices eating,.bingwatching..the morning guilt.coupled w every chaotic noise, There's nothing better than 4 extra hours of peace and freedom. Thanks 👍🏻 It's 3:57am and it feels great. No radios. No barking. No whatever. Good luck everyone. Time for ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕
Thank you for this video. It really made my morning. I´ve been starting t get up at 7 each morning for a few weeks now and i already feel so much better.
My insomnia wakes me between 3-4 am every day. Because of that I go to bed around 8pm. Those early morning hours are so precious to me. It’s my ME time.💖
I disagree with everything but with the going to bed early makes you feel rested in the morning. I need around 9 hours of sleep, so if I go to sleep at 9-11, I will get up at 6-8 and that's early enough for me. I need some time to start functioning in the morning, so no, I can't exercise in the morning. I like to take my time with things and I am lucky that no one forces me to start working before 9 and I don't commute at the moment. Exercise after work feels much nicer to me.
"I need some time to start functioning in the morning" ... but thats kind of what she suggested. To take your time. The video was not really about 4 am. It was about getting up earlier to have some time alone.
Before, I also think "why would I have to wake up THAT early? Even now, waking up at 6 am is already hard and I always feel tired every morning." So I set my 'me time' at midnight and sleep so late at night. But you know what? I actually try it one night bcs I feel like there's something wrong with my energy during the day. So I lay on bed at 10 pm, set my alarm at 4 am and ask everyone at home to turn the tv's volume down so I can somehow sleep earlier. It's really feel different. I wake up feeling so energized that I feel kinda surprised. But if you try it for very first time you may feel sleepy in some hours later, so my tip is to doing short heart exercise such like jumping jacks just to make your heart beats faster for a moment after you drink some water. And for real, the laziness that I used to feel all day are just gone. So try it guys ^^
@@tal9106 You kind of proved my point. ;) Going to bed early is the key, not getting up early. But if getting up early makes you sleepy early than we totally agree.
@@emmynoether9540 no, what I'm saying is, even with the same amount of time for sleep(6 hours for me), starting your day at 4 and 6 is different. Idk why tho, maybe bcs when I wake up when the sun already rise even just a bit, it feels like I'm being forced to face the new day, and become somehow lazy. But when I wake up before the sun rise, it feels like I'm the one who welcomed the day and it makes me motivated a lot naturally. Oh and about getting sleepy a few hours later, it only happened to me in the first day. Maybe bcs my body still trying to adapting, but now that I've been making it a routine for a week, it becomes so natural to start my day early and keep active till the night. But! If what you did so far never makes you feel uncomfortable during the day, and never have any energy or willpower issues(like me before), then it must be the best way for you!
@@tal9106 Ah I see. It's great that Lefie inspired you to change for the better. :) What I learned many years ago is that I feel like I'm not really there and really disoriented if I go to bed after midnight. And I have trouble concentrating when I sleep less than 8 hours for two nights in a row. I also feel happier when I wake up at 7:30 than sleeping in till 10. I just don't get the waking up before 6 a.m. part. I enjoy sleeping when it's dark and don't understand, why I should give that up. But as you say: to each their own. I also despise the long sun hours in summer. I am always relieved when September/October comes, because then I sleep better. I am a bit weird in that way. ^^'
I used to be a morning person by force (public transportation) and sometimes I would sleep on that or take naps in college... also hope you’re doing good my dude!
I wake up at 430 everyday. I do have to be at work at 7, but I like to have slow mornings and have a schedule. I use my mornings for yoga, walking my dog, and just slowly getting ready before work instead of rushing. I'm a morning person tho and I love it
I do wake up at 4:20 at the moment. My work time starts at 7 am. I commute into the city for about an hour. But I started to be like half an hour or 45 minutes earlier at work, just to get a bit more alone time to think, to organize, to focus ... before my colleges crush my concentration. So ... I try to be on my way at 5:10 am and catch a train early. The thing is: *its really, really hard!* It is the "going to bed early" thing, especially in summer! And its also the fact that I really don't have any time to waste in the morning, no "me time" ... since I want that silence moment at work. So ... I imagine it would be really, really helpful if my working hour would start at 8 am and I would not have to commute. So I could wake up at six and have plenty time left. *Because everything before 6 am seems to be "night time"!* And going to bed at 10 pm and getting up at six also sounds more healthy. What gets me most is that I very often do the hour calculation you did! And since work out is still not in my calculation and I kind of falling out of the bed in the morning, it could be more spare time. But 2 hours of commuting and also about 1 hours in "breaks" at work - which makes working time 9 hours, it feels kind of "only two hours left". Eating a bit longer and watching two RUclips videos more ... and two hours are gone. :/ And all that although I wake up at 4:20 ... with snooze button like 4:35 am. Your second reason is hitting the gong. Those extra moments in the morning are like magical moments... but the key is to be able to "use" the time the way I want it. Since I have to commute and also have to start at 7 ... it feels like squibbed. A bit frustrating. I have high hopes on Elon Musk! A self driving, small vehicle the next 3 years that would make eating breakfast, meditating, watching some videos, focusing ahead on the tasks of the day instead of focusing on the road a lot easier. But that "miracle morning" with 2 full hours more "me time" seems not possible from todays view. I would have to get up like 3 am and go to bed like 7 or 8 pm. But maybe ... its worth a try.
I actually like mornings mostly because they're my most productive hours for uni! I usually read for 15-30 minutes while eating breakfast and then I jump right in :D I've been waking up at 6 for two weeks now to do so, and I'm so much less stressed and overall way happier ^^
This is funny, because I've been getting up at 4 or 4:30a all winter, but for a different reason. I figured the only real way to socialize during a pandemic is to be outside with friends. The only reasonably pleasant time to be outside in the winter in the mid-Atlantic is from, say, 1p to 4p. So, I'm up at 4a, working by 5a, and -- if I'm diligent -- done with work by about noon, except for a brief check-in at the end of the day. That leaves me with plenty of time to have lunch outdoors with friends, take walks with our dogs (most of my friends either, like me, make their own schedules, or they work weird hours), or just hang out outside. I haven't yet figured out how to adapt this schedule as the seasons change, though.
Ha! I was in the workforce for about 35 years. I would have to get out of bed at 5am in order to be unhappily at work at 8am. When I stopped working, within 2 weeks I was staying up until 2 or 3am, getting up at 9:30 rested, relaxed and happy. I suppose for many getting up early sounds great. But for dyed in the wool night hours it's makes you so much less productive. My sweet spot for work is from 10pm to around 1 or 1:30am
RUclips algorithm is weird. I enjoyed your topic and I admire your style of presentation. Gonna give you a like and prob never see you again. Nice work, good luck!
Story time: I've been so bad with my sleep schedule during this pandemic, so much that I was going to bed at 8-9am and waking up at 5-6pm. I've always been a night owl, so that wasn't surprising to me. However, I somehow ended up going to bed at 7pm one day, and woke up at 3am. It's now been a week since I shifted my sleep schedule and somehow, I can get so much more done?? Yet, I'm still awake for the same amount of hours.... Also it feels great when 9 am rings and I've already studied for 3-4 hours 😂
This is made hysterical by the fact that I'm watching you at 12:06am. After having watched 4 hours of Netflix. And I have to wake at 6:30 for work. Lol! I think I'll try this though. I really like the idea of the 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening.
I used to think I was a night owl, and I could not possibly be productive at any point other than from 22:00 to 06:00. For the past year I've gone to bed at 9pm and woke up at 5am every day, and I wouldn't change it for anything. I am more productive, I feel happier, and I no longer feel tired all the time.
Music was great. Not over emphasized, not overwhelming. It added instead of taking away What standing desk do you use? I'm in the market and it needs to support 'craft' projects (sewing, cutting paper & cardboard, etc. Interesting perspective on mornings. I live in a studio with one of my kids, so I don't know if I can put it into action though.
I’m more of a night owl by nature but I have trained myself to get up at 4:30 or 5 am so that I can run and get to work on time. Some things that help me stay on this schedule is that I go to bed at 8:30 pm and I keep a very similar schedule for week days and the weekend. I might stay up until 9 pm on a weekend night and sleep in until 6 am but staying more consistent really helps those early mornings feel easier. Also, I live in Florida so if I’m going to run outside in the summer, the only time that isn’t totally miserable out is before sunrise.
Great video, really informative as usual. I suffer from sleep apnea so, I need all the help I can get. The music was nice. Please make a "What's On My Playlist" ? video.
I’ve been hearing lectures on the benefits of getting up in the middle of the night for years. The truth is that I got up for work between three and five AM for decades . I was sick and exhausted the whole time. Those hours ruined my health and forced me to leave my career years early. I can see no point whatsoever to going to bed when the sun is up and waking up to hours of darkness.
To my dad happened the same :( I guess young adults with a well paid office job, no big family to take care of and enough possessions to live well need something difficult and challenging to feel valid in life. So if it's their choice to wake up at night, it doesn't hurt as much as, if you have to do it because of your job, which you can't leave because you have three children's to feed. Just an opinion
Agree and disagree, I don't know the details of your life (including where you are living nor your bedtime) but in summer the sun goes down around 9PM here and wakes up by 5am and winter time is dark from 6pm till 8:30am so in any case I go to bed at night and wake up before sun rises
SInce the sun often goes up at around 5 am summer time ... it feels totally right to wake up that time. But in winter its a very different story. But with 8 hours of good sleep in the dark, waking up at 5 am should not be a problem for anyone.
I am a morning person and wake up at 4-5am and its been going great for me I get to do more stuff, I stay more active and will have more time, but I guess it depends on the person
Ah. This explains why I've always preferred waking up way before anyone else. I am not a morning person -- I am an "alone-time" person.
Love that, so True!
I am an “alone time” person too. But, I just flip it...I stay up later than everyone else. 😆
I accept this explanation. I found it very peaceful to do deep work in these hours. I must admit that it will be hard in the first few days but it's going to be worth it.
I found that the time before my family wakes (4 AM to 6:30 AM) is my most productive.
I wish I could have my alone time in the morning like that, but my step mom already gets up at 4:30, so I stay up late to be alone instead :(
As a major night owl, you’ve made one of the most compelling cases for waking up earlier. Or, maybe your wink at the end just got me like it does every time.
This is great advice. I won't follow it, but I acknowledge how good it is. xD
Lol
Haha saaaame!
Mood 💀
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me
The problem I have with getting up earlier is I have to go to bed at 8pm...
For me it would be 7 pm. Which would dinnerwise be highly impractical and my neighbours are up making noise till at least midnight.
I think the rest of my family would object if I started going to bed that early.
Set an alarm
(tip: morning exercise improves sleep quality and reduces falling-asleep-time)
@@itsmatt228 well god damn, why aren't you the one making videos lol seems like you've got it together
Because atmosphere at 4 am is different. It heals my soul.
Groggy, I picked it up, silenced the alarm, then Googled "can human beings hibernate?"
The answer was no.
My answer to that was impolite, to say the least.
Who said we can't? I'm trying to probe it's possible!
Yea! I feel the same way. During the winter I hardly open my eyes at 7am. But In the summer I can easily wake up at 5am
Brilliant video. I enjoyed how it captured the "Why" vs. the usual "I tried 30 days of.." I loved the part at 5:56 (Stuck By Yourself).
Thank you for inspiring me 💚
Procrastinating working (deadline) at 00:00 while watching this.... Just ate some left over gingerbread men...
I needed this....
Thanks Lefie.
I thought it was weird that I always woke up at 4am and go outside and look up to the sky seeing the stars and the sunrise while everyone is asleep.
Ley Kim I love doing that, as well! I haven’t in a while. This makes me remember how it feels, and I am motivated to start getting up earlier now. Thank you! ✨
i have no will to do anything
I love the quiet first thing
Keep up the good content.
1:54 lol I'm not leaving my house before sunrise, that's a sure way to get mugged or assaulted, I'll stay inside until there are ppl out ... sure sounds nice to feel safe enough to go outside without a care
depends wherr u stay tho amiright
Lol I'm so happy to live in a small place in one of the safest countries in the world, I can go out for a walk at any time of the day. And during winter it is dark from 4 pm to 10 am so we have to go out during dark time as well or we go out never.
@@Pilkkukatti Where do you live? I'd love to live there too! Here in Buenos Aires, it's never safe to go out, not even during the daytime.
@@titatesta4577 I live in Finland :) It's cold but not many people around so it is pretty safe! And yeah I get it, big cities are usually always a bit dangerous :/ Do you have to go by car to everywhere to be safe or how do you move around outside?
I just wanna say, I watched this a couple months ago, and slowly adjusted my sleep schedule (I was already waking up at 8am and 6am during school), and now I wake up... at 4am. I do wake up with my husband who wakes up at that time but it actually is nice to wake up and enjoy the quiet!
your personality is really cute (: I also like the consumption vs creation analogy
Why do you have curfews? Is it because of covid?
@@r4.v3n Yes indeed, all over EU. Off the top of my head, I think France has curfew at 19.00 or something, very early in the evening. The Netherlands has curfew at 21.00, I think, it's very early compared to ours, and it was very sudden: there were few strict measures before and then suddenly everything got sooo strict and people lashed out with lots of protests and violence, which in turn inspired some people in Belgium to protest and vandalise as well. I could be wrong but this is what I remember seeing on the news.
I am a morning person, I usually wake up between 4:40- 5:30 am, without an alarm
I love my mornings, I use it as ME time.
I love her because everything she says makes sense.
Watching this at 2:30am...guess I’ll start trying this out tomorrow 👀 You actually convinced me, an absolute morning hater 😂
Been doing this for the past 4 months. I am in nursing school and my grades have gone up significantly and my performance at clinicals have also improved, I have time to workout for an hour everyday, time to cook everyday and time to even spend with my family. I highly recommend it!
You won a subscriber. Great content I like the simplicity of your videos. Pls always stay humble as you are
i got this in my recommendation and clicked it , now i really wanna wake up early like i used to be.
If you'd combine this with a 20 minute power nap in the afternoon, you'd be unstoppable
Aww, I love power naps, I do them after lunch.
Currently recuperating from Covid but starting my day with exercise sets the tone for the rest of the day 😎🙌🏻
Feeling spoiled with another great video 🤗
hope you get well soon!
Be careful you are fully recovered before exercising. A virus can lead to myocarditis if you exercise with it actively in your bloodstream.
Geniales los emojis xD
now that i'm graduated and in the workforce, i truly value content like this. thx for creating :)
I used to be a night owl, but now waking up super early is the new rock n roll.
Thank you for the reminder - myself is also worthy of time :)
"but nothing is going on at night right now" Ah I see, you haven't met the online gamers :D
But jokes aside, I rarely have a good sleeping rhythm but always found when I happen to wake up at 4-5 am I actually didn't mind it and found it quiet relaxing that the world is so silent at that time :D
I was already thinking about starting my days earlier since I have early classes every day this semester, and you have only helped solidify that idea further.
I don’t go to bed till 4:00 😩
My problem too 😞
Exactly
Same. It's 5.30am here and trust me I'm not awake because I woke up early 🤣
You are my people! 😆
Thaaaaank you ❤️
Seriously, I needed this.
Work from home, ALL by myself too
Love the music.
Good stuff Lefie. I like the music, I think it fits your chill vibe nicely.
Great vid, that daily hourly breakdown very eye opening
I haven't tried the "do it for a week" method, but I'm reading a lot of comments saying "I'm a night owl, this won't work for me"... and, honestly, I feel the same way. But maybe we should give it a try!
Thanks for your videos Lefie, they are always so captivating & inspiring! Hope everyone is keeping safe!

creation in the morning, for myself, absolutely true point!
Also the other reasons, very well told. And the book recommendation look very interesting, especially The nocturnal brain 🤩
Although, I do hang out with friends online regularly, in the evenings^^
You make this so relatable. Thank you!
I love that the music is a jam but also soothing. :) I'm gonna try to work on projects for myself in the mornings now, ty. Also i am enjoying watching the process of your hair growing out as i slooooooowly grow out mine too lol

Love the music!
This actually made be think about my morning habits. Thank you, i find this video very useful! Big hug from Perú :)
I spy a set of Foxfire books on your shelf. What a treasure!
And all that although I wake up at 4:20 ... with snooze button like 4:35 am.
Thanks for the advice!
I do love the music! And thanks for sending good vibes. Right back at ya. :-)
I actually like mornings mostly because they're my most productive hours for uni! I usually read for 15-30 minutes while eating breakfast and then I jump right in :D
I've been waking up at 6 for two weeks now to do so, and I'm so much less stressed and overall way happier ^^
It added instead of taking away
What standing desk do you use? I'm in the market and it needs to support 'craft' projects (sewing, cutting paper & cardboard, etc.
Interesting perspective on mornings. I live in a studio with one of my kids, so I don't know if I can put it into action though.
wow thank you! the music was great too.
Your videos always give me a different perspective and make me consider different ways I could live my life! I think I might just give this a shot.
I said YES to all of the reasons. Guess I'll have to start being a morning person. Love your videos!
Great video, really informative as usual. I suffer from sleep apnea so, I need all the help I can get. The music was nice. Please make a "What's On My Playlist" ? video.
You are awesome! Thank you
I'm a night owl but this is changing my mind. Will definitely try this.
That 1 hour miscellaneous chores is me trying to gather my will power to get out of bed.
Totally agree. Waking up in the middle of the night seriously alters your circadian rhythms
