  • ‪@alpugliesetrains9753‬ and I spent the day visiting Bob Hess' spectacular 2-rail O scale layout. Bob's layout features many Howard Zane original structures, as well as other incredible craftsman buildings from Bar Mills, Chooch, and others. Bob's layout features Thurmond, WV, including its coaling tower which was scratch built.

Can't wait to finally have my own 2 rail layout. As of now, only place I have to run anything is on my 3 rail clubs layout.

2-rail is awesome! Check out Terry Terrance’s channel here on RUclips. Search for the 2-rail O Scale 2016 video. That was a big inspiration to me. He also highlights some smaller 2-rail layouts in several of his videos.

interesting choices for Thurmond... The timber engine house has been put in another part of the layout, and a brick one is in Thurmond instead. The coaling tower is facing the wrong direction. hmm?

I know he put the timber engine house elsewhere because of space constraints. Not sure why the coaling tower is facing the wrong direction.

It’s a mixture- brass, Atlas, converted Lionel, converted MTH. Same with rolling stock…brass, converted Lionel/MTH, Intermountain, Atlas.

Fantastic video. I am just getting into the 2-rail O Scale and where can I purchase rolling stock and engineers from?

Hey Greg! Welcome to 2-rail O. It’s a great scale to model in! Mainline Hobby Supply, Caboose Stop Hobbies in Iowa, Norm’s Trains, and Public Delivery Track all carry 2-rail rolling stock and engines. Im sure there’s more hobby shops, those are just ones that come to mind. eBay is another place to look. Best place is local shows and swap meets. If you live in the Mid-Atlantic, I highly recommend the 2-rail show in Strasburg, PA, which happens again on October 14th. Incredible selection and prices.

Sadly this layout is no more. This video was actually shot on the last day before the layout was taken down and much of the collection sold.
