I'm going to age myself, but I've been using 5.10 impacts since the original Intense ones. So I've owned (and still own) a PLETHORA of 5.10 shoes. The Impacts are still my all time favorite riding shoe but ever since Adidas took over, the sizing changed slightly (and build quality). I find the pre-Adidas ones were better constructed and lasted longer - now pieces that are bonded together seem to come apart quickly - back in the day everything was stitched. Additionally the toebox area got smaller and narrower. I've always bought 9.5s and now they feel very snug...maybe even too much, but the 10s still feel too big so I deal with it. I still think the pre-Adidas ones were more comfortable. I still have a few boxes with spare Sam Hill Snake skin and rainbow stipes pairs. In the winter I like to wear Karvers - they are a bit warmer - I have one pair of those left.
I had some OG sam hills back in the day too. Sounds like you have quite the collection! Interesting to hear you noticed a change after the change to Adidas.
@@briancahal I did, but even outside of 5.10s I’ve been wearing Adidas for most two decades - so even through those years of notice Adidas quality decide.
I used to love Five Ten's Trailcross LT when I rode flat pedals. But since I've switched to clips, I really like the Crankbrothers Mallet Enduro combination. It shows that they really developed those shoes and pedals as if they were one single unit. Everything fits together super nice and tight and IMO grants me better control over my bike. I feel like my cornering has drastically improved since switching to clips as now I can really forcefully drive and steer the bike using my feet without the fear of slipping a pedal.
Nice! If I were to go clips again I'd want to try the crank brothers shoe/pedal combo. Always been a challenge to get the shoe to mate well with the pedal for me.
I'm loving the Adidas ones, ever since they first came out. Great for the lighter trail riding, very breathable, dry fast and fit my feet better than 5.10. I find Adidas build quality great, the shoe would outlast the sole like 3 times easily. Some toe protection would be nice tho
The impact high canvas 2. gen are still my favorite shoes of all time. For dh and in winter I prefer high shaft for more coverage and stability. They did everything right with this model. Same great fit, better lacing than the first generation (that was a pain in the ass), light, breathed well enough, durable. I have the current pros and it's a downgrade. Way too wide for me in the forefoot area. Upper part is so stiff, I need to pull on the laces like crazy. The sole also seems to be stiffer than the older versions, I find it a bit too stiff. Also do not breathe well. I also have freerider pro canvas and the freerider pro mid vcs. These have their advantages, but the grip, security and wear rate cannot compare to the impacts. After half a year I have already a hole that goes through the sole (I'm, using nukeproof horizon pedals). The impacts are heavy, bulky and ugly, but for riding fast down rough tracks there's nothing better. I also quite like the specialized 2fo dh: security and grip are somewhere between the freerider pro and impact. The sole is quite stiff and comparable to the impact. Breathe quite well and the wear rate is good. I also like that the heel is a bit narrower compared to the impacts, so my heel doesn't get jammed between the crank arm and the chainstay. You can get them very cheap on sale.
This is one of my favourite channels.
loving these review dude, keeping it real

How is the fit compared to the impact pros? Is the pro wider in the toe area?
These look to be the sam hill model. I can't find the shoe in this video anywhere in my size...

Good input, I’ve tried the 2fo but not in the flat version. Might give these a try when the impacts wear out
The impact is the best performing but really ugly looking shoe compared to skate shoes (but I still prefer them over any other mtb shoes)
