This video and one other out of MANY MANY MANY videos are about THE AMP! ❤ ALL the other videos are all about the guitarist showing off 😢 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!❤ VERY knowledgeable!!!❤ I've just ordered this amp, the 100w version! 😊
I know that Catalyst amps are new, but this is, BY FAR, the best and most in-depth video yet. Thank you for this! If anyone has any question on what this amp can do, you've pretty much answered that!
Great amp, great demo. I'm thrilled that they got the Helix tones into a combo, which is what I've been wanting for years. Richie really knows how to dial in a tone. I start with the gain as well, then add in mids and presence till I get the sort of clarity I need. This is how you find the perfect setting.
There’s no more mystery to this (brilliant) system at all. A straightforward system explained straightforwardly. So much better that the others. You have great talent in communication, and clearly in guitar playing. Wonderful. Thank you. I’m now subscribed!
Thanks a lot for going into all the effects this amp offers. It's the main reason I wanted to get this amp. I already have a Bassbreaker 30R for my main tube amp, but I can't afford to buy a ton of pedals. I wanted this just to play around with some effects, but most people ignore the effects in their videos of this amp for some unknown reason.
That was a phenomenal overview! I just got this amp and has some questions about the presets and banks and you absolutely answered my questions! Thanks for the video!
I keep listening to the first 60 seconds!!!! Very few RUclips guitar players play "fusion" style..... AWESOME!!! You sold the amp BTW!!! Been on the fence on this amp. I like the features, but I already have a Mustang 3 V2 and a Princeton Stereo Chorus. This amp with a foot switch looks like a good upgrade with more versatility. All of the sounds you demonstrated are usable. Especially at this price point!!! Thanks again.
I’ve been through a lot of these demos. Nice to know that with a little effort to learn you can dial in this amp without the interface. Awesome stuff and thanks for the tones
Great video Richie. I have the Cat 100 and have been contemplating sending it back but this video pushed me over the edge and I am keeping it around. Thanks!
T HANK YOU !!! I just got a 60 and no where is there any info on how to do anything about setting it up. I called Sweetwater and they couldnt even help me. This explains everything and is done so well. Good job !
Easily the best demo of this amp anywhere on YT. I hope Line 6/Yamaha cuts Richie a nice check for his excellent work here. The Catalyst is very, very good but, seems like there may be more that can be done with this platform. I'll bet V2 will be amazing.
Hi Richie, a fun watch for me. Always good to see you in action, with guitar in hand. I sent this video to my boss, who plays...(he's become a fan). 🎸 Thanks for the demo...!!! 🎸
Hi Richie. I got the Catalyst 60 last week and i love it. I sold my Vox AC 15 and bought this. The Vox was too loud for my use, so i bought the Line 6 (the switch in the back, brother). Well, the reason i comment on this demo video, is that it’s the best i’ve seen by far, and i’ve seem tons. Thank you for that, i now know this amp better then i would - in a hurry. Great stuff and brilliant playing man.
The other day I was thinking about what my ultimate line 6 rig would be. It would be a Helix with a Stomp XL in the effects loop at the beginning of the chain for just for distortions and then a stomp xl in the effects loop after the amp for delays and reverb and all the other effects in my helix chain and so I’d basically stay on one preset an entire gig but have multiple distortions and delays to choose from without taking space away from the helix chain.
Love your gear reviews and tips/tricks on Line 6 gear, since we both are helix nerds so keep em coming... but can we please get some more Band Geek?! There is a hole in my soul where your great podcast and videos used to live!! Much love to you, Richie!
Excellent job, Richie! I just got a Catalyst 60 a few days ago, but haven’t had much time to get to know it. Your tutorial gave me plenty to work with. By the way, your “accent” sounds like you and I grew up in the neck of the woods.
Fantastic review / demo! Can you do a comparison of the helix in the bypass mode with the same models as the amp and A/B them to show how well the catalyst works as an FRFR vs just as an amp? If the helix sounds as good using the amp as a speaker as the amp sounds on its own, I'll be even more sold. I can't find any info on how the helix sounds into this and I think you're the man to do this kind of video justice for all of us helix users! Thank you for the great demo.
Richie, very cool for you to play through a fairly affordable modeling amp for us! Have you played through the Boss Katana (MKii 100)? How do these 2 compare? Can't wait for BOC to come thru SoCal again!! And your Sunday live shows!
Boy o boy! In this modern world where everything moves fast and you just go ahead and use a delay with no remorse at all! LOL! Seriously though, I've been looking for an all-in-one amp. And I am looking seriously at the Catalyst. Think I'll get the 200 even though I don't plan on playing live. But you never know. I like everything from hi-gain to surf guitar sounds. And I heard another guitar channel use this to get some good drippy surf sounds. Thanks for showing off the other side of this amp. Love the crunch. One effect even sounded like it was out of Jack White's tool box. BTW, stoked to see BOC at the Fiesta Oyster Bake! Would love to know how to get BOC sounds on this amp. The tone in Dragon Lady is particularly killer.
To me, that would be a great amp in a studio application...great to throw a mic in front of...but for what I do playing live in the cover bands I'm in, I mean we might be covering Let's Stay Together from Al Green, then the next song might end up being Hotel California...and when you're the only guitar player in the band, and you're playing a dance venue where they want you to go from one song to the next in a couple of seconds, there is no time to change guitars, at least for me there isn't, without our lead singer talking in the mic the obvious, saying, "there goes Robert again changing his guitar"...so I've resigned to just wear a JTV 89F all night plugged into a Helix with every song having it's own preset, and all in order in the Helix Jr (Helix LT, hahaha), and the songs that need it, with snapshots programmed as well, so I wear the same guitar all night long, but have another Variax behind me just in case I break a string...
So I bought a Catalyst 100. Here is my wish list... Firmware Update ??? 1. Ability to run two to three effects per channel. I like the simple Channel A Channel B switching using the Line 6 foot pedal. Two effects plus the separate Reverb would be a big help in tone shaping. 1a. Ability to scroll thru the six preset channels with an Up/Down footswitch. 2. Swap Effects from a library, I will never use the Synth or Growler effect and I don't need a Leslie etc. If I could trade those effects for ones I would use that would be nice. 3. Acoustic Simulation option. I'd trade the Synth effect for a decent Acoustic Simulation in a heartbeat. For the money and available options, it is a really good value. However, the above options would keep it with me long term. The Catalyst Editor works great and is easy to use. As is, I'm still saving for an Fractal Audio FM9 or the full blown Helix model. Thank you for your great video Richie !
Great review as always. How is the sound quality, and the speaker. Is it like the Powercabs? The one fault I feel the Boss Katana range has, it's the Speakers. Have Line 6 given the Catalyst good speakers? I'm waiting for my guitar store to get them in. Looking forward to trying the 60 out. It looks like there is no difference between the units except for power and size.
Hey Richie, I forgot to mention in my earlier comment...the next time you do a demo like this, could you throw in the lick from "Lazy"? Ahhh ha...lol. Love you man !
Apparently it pairs up pretty nicely with the Helix, but I haven't tried it myself. Much cheaper than a Powercab+ 112 if that's the case though, think it's like half the price in Australia.
Great vid Richie! Just.a question here: I am a Helix user and am looking for a good amp to combine it with. Would you go for the PowerCab option or the Catalyst? Until now I haven't found much on integration of Helix into the Catalyst. Suggestions?
I had a line 6 with 2 12's. It sounded AMAZING (at home).. and SUCKED in a live setting. I had ALL of these tones/sounds/etc.. but a real amp (in this case a Matchless) blew me away. I'd either not be heard (no dynamic range) or was too loud. No in between. I sold it that night.. got me a Mesa Boogie and never looked back (now with a Bogner). Trust me. I've played guitar on stage for over 40 years. Lines 6 just doesn't cut it in a live situation when compare to tube amps with no computer processing.
Great review! How do you rank these sounds with the Katana? I like the noise gate on this by using the boost and button above it. Now with this, you can only have reverb and one effect??
This newest offering from L6 reminds me of the old Flextone they put out some years ago. L6 is recycling Helix level models in a different package is all that seems to be happening here , going to the well one more time, so to speak. I have been a Line 6 user in the past, got sick of how the units would choke on DSP after a few software upgrades and then I used a Kemper for a while which sounded great but the interface wasn't the best, and recently bought a Fractal FM3, which can give you option paralysis to the extreme. The unit has great amp models, fantastic effects and more tweaking options than a human could possibly even think of. I still miss and yearn for an updated modernized Vetta II with a the full controller pedal board. I had one way back and loved it. It was , for me, an all in one solution: gave me enough amps and effects, and had that amp in the room sound with plenty of balls, was stereo, and the menu dive wasn't too bad. It was heavy but worth lugging around. I'm still waiting on Line 6 to update the Variax as it is getting pretty long in the tooth. Great demo , Ritchie. I hope L6 is paying you well as you are one of the best L6 advocates on RUclips. Be well.
Cool video I just bought the 200 watt and I love this Amp I couldn't be more Happy I hooked up my Boss ME 80 and it sounds even better then I expected I am just going to use the clean sound with My pedalborad so this Catalyst works great for me I suggest you try the 60 & 100 & 200 watt before you buy one to see witch one works for you 😎🎸🤟
Richie, I'm not really gigging anymore. But could you gig part time with one of these amps? For years I had a Hughes & Kettner GM36. Once I stopped gigging I sold it off to buy a PodGO. Recently I also bought a Boss Katana Mark II 100W head & 2x12 combo. But that's because I was unaware of these Catalyst amps. My main thought process is recording. But I still want a combo amp/head for jamming, rather than playing through the studio speakers with the PodGO. Just seems logical to go all in on the Line 6 stuff.
Im really tempted to ditch my valve amp for the 200 watt catalyst, I'd be using the amp primarily for live performances and band rehearsal. My only concern is using the two button footswitch. Can anyone confirm if the amp suffers from a mute during the changing of the channels using the footswitch. I had a katana and it suffered from this and it just ruined the amp for me
Dude was the Absolute best demo of the amp on RUclips.. The Amp sounds fantastic

How do you get to the catalyst app edit
The best Catalyst 100 demo on God's green Earth. Thanks so much!
Just picked up the 200. Your video by far is the best for explaining the details. Thank you!
Just bought one to replace a Cornell Romany Plus. It's superb, and I am a die-hard valve combo fan.
Great amp, great demo. I'm thrilled that they got the Helix tones into a combo, which is what I've been wanting for years. Richie really knows how to dial in a tone. I start with the gain as well, then add in mids and presence till I get the sort of clarity I need. This is how you find the perfect setting.

Fantastic demo of this new Amp from Line 6. The best I've seen so far. I also like the amp sounds you created and saved. They sound fantastic. 👍
Damn. What fantastic vibrato an dynamics in your playing. I bought this amp and gigging with it. Cheers
I brought this out to a club to jam with some friends and it killed. It totally held its own with a full band!
Thanks a lot for going into all the effects this amp offers. It's the main reason I wanted to get this amp. I already have a Bassbreaker 30R for my main tube amp, but I can't afford to buy a ton of pedals. Great demo! Would really like to see you do a video running the Helix through the power amp of the Catalyst
Me too
Yeah! Im womdering if the amps need the Cab IR turned off. I bet the Slo 100 sounds great thru a Catalyst combo
I keep listening to the first 60 seconds!!!! Very few RUclips guitar players play "fusion" style..... AWESOME!!! You sold the amp BTW!!! Been on the fence on this amp. I bought a Catalyst 100 a couple of days ago and this video is an enormous help. 👏👏🤘
Best video demo of Catalyst amps...Thank you oh and, Line 6 owes you a check!
This is the first I've seen the Pre/Post switching or the noise gate shortcut from the panel, very cool!
Excellent demonstration! Picking up 60 watt tomorrow!
How are you finding the 60 watt sir?
Came for the Catalyst, stayed for the kickass playing!
New sub!!!
Thanks for the review & demo Richie - it's always great to see how you can take something that can be complex and break it down to be simple.
Richie the guy who got me to buy a Helix. Actually two of them now. Staying with my two PowerCab 112's and IRs.
Great video Richie. I have the Cat 100 and have been contemplating sending it back but this video pushed me over the edge and I am keeping it around. Thanks!
How is it compared to the Boss Katana
Sir - thank you for this review. Professional & thorough. Excellent playing as well!
Thanks for your excellent demo, and your seriously cool playing skills 🙏
Annnnndddddd once again, you've sold me another product!!. Thank you for the BEST reviews!!
Thank you for the great video on the Catalyst! Very helpful
I just picked up the 60w version yesterday
I just bought this amp and I think I now know how it works lol, thanks bro!
T HANK YOU !!! I just got a 60 and no where is there any info on how to do anything about setting it up. I called Sweetwater and they couldnt even help me. This explains everything and is done so well. Good job !
Great job Richie. Sounds fantastic. 👍🏻🎸
Catalyst 100 is on my gear list, to pair with my HX Effects
Easily the best demo of this amp anywhere on YT. I hope Line 6/Yamaha cuts Richie a nice check for his excellent work here.
The Catalyst is very, very good but, seems like there may be more that can be done with this platform. I'll bet V2 will be amazing.

🎸 Thanks for the demo...!!! 🎸
No comparison with the helix, but Richie you are the best with these helix videos!!
Hi Richie, great video and thank you. Just got one of these a week ago and the same one. And this is the best instruction usage on the web. 😉👍

We've been hard at work preparing for a tour in 2023
@@RichieCastellano Very cool. Hopefully my comment didn't offend.
Not at all!
they need to make a real time internet remote-controlled amp. . So, Richie can dial in your tone.
Amazing. Almost none of this was in the manual that came with my Catalyst 100.
I have the 60 and I love it! Got a honey burst Tribute too. 😉 It’s a 2017 with the mahogany neck.
Best video about catalyst in youtube. ❤
Good tutorial and demo, bro. Solid instruction. Thanks and keep up the good work!!
Excellent video. Information was easy to follow
Richie does the best demo videos!
Love for you and the boys to rerecord the first BOC album!
sounds all very similar. But it's good to know it can rock out and not sound too fizzy with high gain.
Excellent job, Richie! I just got a Catalyst 60 a few days ago, but haven’t had much time to get to know it. Your tutorial gave me plenty to work with. By the way, your “accent” sounds like you and I grew up in the neck of the woods.
Great demo thanks man. Gonna pick one of these up next week..
I love my Line 6 amp ...glad to see your promotion Richie. Now if I only could play guitar as good as you ...maybe one day ;)
What a great treat. Awesome as usual Richie.

Killer review. You may have just made me buy this thing :) cheers!
Love your introduction

Best explanation of use however those unified controls are confusing.
Sweet man it looks like you are really feeling it!
Oh here that Michael McDonald in the background.... Killer playing! 🎸
Great demo!
Thanks great playing.
Excellent demo! 👍🏻
I should have waited and bought this helix is too much fun. I guess I'll download tones from the preset masters on the web.
Great video
This is basically a big THR. Makes sense since L6 is owned by Yamaha. Also, thats a great Michael McDonald song.
Hey Richie, I forgot to mention in my earlier comment...the next time you do a demo like this, could you throw in the lick from "Lazy"?
Ahhh ha...lol.
Love you man !
Good Job Thank You.
Sounds fkn great 👍
Apparently it pairs up pretty nicely with the Helix, but I haven't tried it myself. Much cheaper than a Powercab+ 112 if that's the case though, think it's like half the price in Australia.
Is your honey burst Les Paul in this video a tribute model? Thank you for this demo of this amplifier. Makes me want to go out and buy one now!
Great vid Richie! Just.a question here: I am a Helix user and am looking for a good amp to combine it with. Would you go for the PowerCab option or the Catalyst? Until now I haven't found much on integration of Helix into the Catalyst. Suggestions?
I’m actually wondering the same thing.
Hi, just saw you guys 3 times. Still blown away. I like the amp but a pain if you're on a tilt back stand.
Well explained thank you 😊
Great review!
How do you rank these sounds with the Katana?
I like the noise gate on this by using the boost and button above it.
Now with this, you can only have reverb and one effect??
Line 6 Catalyst focused more on the sound vs Katanas option for everything.

I'm still waiting on Line 6 to update the Variax as it is getting pretty long in the tooth.
Great demo , Ritchie. I hope L6 is paying you well as you are one of the best L6 advocates on RUclips. Be well.
Really fantastic sound man, could you do a james metallica sound ?❤❤❤
I bougth this amp and I'm loosing my mind to play some metallica riff with good sound
Stunning playing at the start, is that using the aux in?
Sounds better than my Katana
Helix
DEEP CUTS THE KNIFE
Sounds like a Dumble to me! It's in the playing though
Cool video I just bought the 200 watt and I love this Amp I couldn't be more Happy I hooked up my Boss ME 80 and it sounds even better then I expected I am just going to use the clean sound with My pedalborad so this Catalyst works great for me I suggest you try the 60 & 100 & 200 watt before you buy one to see witch one works for you 😎🎸🤟
Would love to see you do a “ways to use the Catalyst” video same as u did on the hx stomp! Good stuff!
Absolutely fantastic walkthrough of this amp!
Would you recommend the foot switch if I'm just a garage playing hobbyist?
👏👏
Sadly I don't hear the cleans I want. Great amp and review demo but wanting great cleans then build from there
How do I get to the catalyst app edit
Im really tempted to ditch my valve amp for the 200 watt catalyst, I'd be using the amp primarily for live performances and band rehearsal. My only concern is using the two button footswitch. Can anyone confirm if the amp suffers from a mute during the changing of the channels using the footswitch. I had a katana and it suffered from this and it just ruined the amp for me
It does not
