The group's name came from a Steve Allen TV show bit inspired by popular groups at the time (1967) with names Steve thought had comically nonsensical word juxtapositions, such as Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Electric Prunes. Doing a Mad Libs-type thing, the audience favored putting together "stark naked" and "car thieves," and Steve offered the name to any actual rock group looking for a new identity.
The writers of this song also penned the hits "Happy Together" [#1], "She'd Rather Be with Me" and "She's My Girl" for the Turtles; and "Celebrate" for Three Dog Night.
It’s a great 😊 song even though it’s a 1st time for me that I heard this song. Perhaps this was recorded between 1969-1971. Sometimes my guesses pay off other times they don’t. Great song 🎵 by the way.

Great song - crazy band name.
The lead singer and the music reminds me of the audition in 'The Producers' of the hapless actor who was cast as the lead in 'Springtime For Hilter.'
