- Here is my reaction to The O.C. Season 1 Episode 24 'The Proposal'
Jimmy and Sandy run into a roadblock in their effort to re-open the Balboa Lighthouse restaurant. Summer and Seth take it upon themselves to finally make Marissa feel more at home at Jimmy's. Everyone is shocked when Caleb makes a proposal, which sparks a near-fatal accident for Luke. Marissa, and Sandy and Jimmy each strike deals with Caleb. An old O.C. friend moves away.

One of the worst decisions getting rid of Luke. He was such an entertaining character. They bring in such dull characters in the following seasons, like lyndsey, Zack, Johnny etc, legit terrible characters that just stay too long in the show! I’d rather have had 4 seasons with Luke and Anna
I actually like the Lindsey storyline. They also bring in Alex which pretty much makes up for every other bad character they bring in.
Never realised the Marissa list was this long. Poor girl 🙈
Dont worry, if you continue with "Greys Anatomy" for the next 10 years, you will see "Luke" again. lol

Adding to the list the very beginning of the show; her parents' divorce and dad almost ending up in prison.
Marissa has so much trauma and it only gets worse. It’s kind of a blight against Josh and the writers that they put so much shit on her character. Which in turn makes people annoyed with the character constantly.

Poor Marissa. I mean…she grew a lot from trauma but she was always smart. I wish she had gone to college
I'm not surprised your ratings are starting to fall a bit, it's pretty much the same throughout the rest of the show. There's a quote you can find from Josh Schwartz where he mentions that he wrote most of season one not knowing if there would be a season two, so what you got early on, was a lot of drama and action in nearly every episode. The 27 episode is a rarity in today's world, that was normal 30+ years ago, so I would guess that the show started to stretch some of the storylines out to hit that 27 EP mark. In that same quote, Schwartz also mentions, he had nothing planned for season two, might have been season three, so he had to come up with storylines quick.
The rest of the show is still good and although season four ended early due to a difficult and now regrettable decision from Schwartz, which he admits on Bilson's podcast, the show was starting to gain momentum again, at least in the writing. Also, Schwartz was asked by Fox during the O.C. run to create an entirely different show, he mentioned he was burned out and running out of ideas, so season 1 is never matched again, which I'm sure you're figuring out if you're in season two on Patreon. Still a great show either way.
