It destroyed his scrambling abilities or severely compromised them at the very least. Go watch him vs Barboza and rda or Kevin Lee then compare it to pettis. Tony's bloodied psycho smile dance was the coolest thing I've seen in a fight to this day. Like something out of a movie! Showtime almost out him away, too, and that guy deserves his nickname.
Tony was pretty good and he did have a few good wins against top guys like RDA and Barboza. But he managed to somehow never come in contact with Dustin and Justin until it happened. His greatest strengths at the time were his awkwardness, unpredictability, speed, cardio and use of elbows. He did have a couple crafty subs, but his wrestling was always weak and he’d have been bullied by someone like Khabib. It’s unfortunate how the covid situation turned out and how the Khabib fight never happened with Justin replacing him. Tony should’ve waited until October.
Because they turned downs fights with Tony...Justin, Nate diaz, Dustin...Mcgregor..they didnt want to fight tony during his prime. Justin eventually did take it but the circumstances were heavily stacked against tony. Justin did turn it down once and Dana never let it go..Anytime justin would call for a title shot after a big win..Dana woudl have that over justins head. Nate was offered to fight tony while tony was intrim champ and nate said no. Dustin always said he wanted to fight tony but never actually called for it until Justin beat him. To say that Khabib would have bullied him is a far stretch. Tony would have given Khabib his toughest match up. Gleason Tiabu beat khabib and tony finished Gleason in round 1. Also..when khabib got suspended for 1 year for being unprofessional..tony tried to wait until khabib could fight again but Dana tried making Tony fight max for the intrim title that tony never lost..tony said NO i want khabib..so dana made max vs dustin for the intrim instead. Thats a huge reason why Tony didnt' turn down the justin fight..he was gonna lose another shot at the title if he siad no to justin.
There's a reason everyone ducked a Prime Tony. Yes, including Khabib. The one and only time neither Khabib nor Tony got injured, Khabib pulled out due to a "bad weight cut". Don't @ me. Facts are facts.
Tony was much older and went through the wringer in the division, so he naturally declined faster than Khabib who retired early. People like to think this means Khabib would easily beat him in his prime.
It’s crazy how unrecognizable he is compared to back then. Obviously age catches up with all fighters but it always sucks seeing them stick around way longer than they should
I can totally see why his body and brain just gave up at one point. Dude was taking massive damage even when he dominated. This is not the way to fight if you seek longevity.
He didn't feel any pain just pure adrenaline but the damage he took against Justin isn't joke he aged 10-20 years over night in that fight and lost the speed and reflexes and more importantly the confidence
I think what made Tony great was his ability to take damage and keep up a pace his opponent couldn’t match he was never good in terms of stand up technique and fundamentals. He started moving slower after that knee injury and it exposed how sloppy he actually was even though he was effective.
I mean he got tagged a lot, which proves he never had the fundamentals, he just had the stamina to walk through those shots and keep coming until he landed the more damaging shots
Tony's best skill was his chin, he was never the guy to not take damage. He just could win the damage war because you can't break Tony, even when he's supposed to tap he refuses to. Sad that his chin went away but it was bound to happen over time
I think Tony was going to decline even if didn’t took the gaethje fight. Tony fighting style relies more on physical attributes than skill, his defense was head movement, he was tough, he was fast, he had an iron chin, and insane cardio. That’s good but on the long run, it was going to come to an end with him aging, compare the fight with barboza then to cerrone, he was fast when shooting from the outside and yes barboza was touching him but with cerrone he was getting hit frequently and looked a bit slow. The gaethje fight completely ruined him, Michael chandler knocking him out is what sealed the deal that he will never win a fight ever again.
Nah he had 3-5 years more in him but the amount of punishment he took from Justin aged him 10-20 years straight... Chandler has no precision tony had a chance against chandler before Justin fight

@@MAkAVeLlIiii You're so delusional lol keep dreaming
He was at his peak against RDA
@@BestaticbeastDl RDA got KOed by Alvarez 4 months before the fight with Ferguson
@@MAkAVeLlIiii Stop making up nonsense stories 😆
The T in CTE stands for Tony.
Bruh his fighting style itself changed 💯 he just go through his opponents
Imagine how much better he’d be if he just kept his hands up for longer than 2 seconds
prime Ferguson was chaos incarnate
He had no coaches or sparring back then….that is the crazy thing.
People like to think this means Khabib would easily beat him in his prime.
nice joke 😂 you’re like the one autistic kid saying the most stupid crap then acting all high and might like some mic drop sh*t 😂😂😂
but the time Tony broke his own shin right before the fight is not ducking of course. It's ducking when it's not your favourite fighter?
@@serendipitouscomet why would he decline faster?
@@FrenkieWest32 OH I don't know, maybe because he's older? You think that would cause him to decline before Khabib does and at a faster rate?
Great video, but there are no moments with the bathroom, kevin lee, and rafael dosanyas)(
I think MMA evolved so much that Tony's holes became craters.
I love how both Tony and Khabib bullied a prime Barboza 😮
no technique,no wrestling no nothing just pure athleticism
Yo but for real he was bangjng with everyone
Holy shit the level of nostalgia I felt watching this.
It’s crazy how unrecognizable he is compared to back then. Obviously age catches up with all fighters but it always sucks seeing them stick around way longer than they should
Prime fergy was the definition of button bashing
None of those opponents were the highest level of UFC competition.
Some of these fights he's actually past his prime but he was still a beast with his ability to quickly recover and start applying pressure again.
Prime Tony is just a whole other monster
After the Justin fight Tony never been the same
1:56 when you take too much damage in a boss fight
I remember being mind blown watching him fight Edson. Was fairly new to the sport and Tony became a favorite. That run was fun
Good to see a vet go out and not get the BJ Penn/Chuck Liddell treatment from the fans
This was definitely not Tony in his prime, this was the beginning of when he started making bad decisions on the Fly
I can totally see why his body and brain just gave up at one point. Dude was taking massive damage even when he dominated. This is not the way to fight if you seek longevity.
There was a time, when some people actually thought that Tony can win against khabib with that cartoonish fighting style
A shame that Tony and Khabib fought on the same night just not against each other😢
He was lowkey pushing all the buttons at the same time 😂😂
Tony's biggest strength was his durability, he wasn't afraid to go at it because he could outlast his opponents pain wise.
He didn't feel any pain just pure adrenaline but the damage he took against Justin isn't joke he aged 10-20 years over night in that fight and lost the speed and reflexes and more importantly the confidence
The Man was a Delight to watch.🇲🇽👊🏽🇺🇸CSO
You can't kick a downed opponent, even if you are downed as well?
yes
Prime Tony is when he tore through RDA
he fights like a dark souls player
Tony the type of guy to have califlower elbow.
Tony’s prime ended when he got injured ahead of UFC 223.
I think what made Tony great was his ability to take damage and keep up a pace his opponent couldn’t match he was never good in terms of stand up technique and fundamentals. He started moving slower after that knee injury and it exposed how sloppy he actually was even though he was effective.
prime tony ferguson is one of the earliest time i see shin-to-shin to lowkick, like why would you do that
Was fun while it lasted.
Wow prime tony took a lot of heavy shots
I mean he got tagged a lot, which proves he never had the fundamentals, he just had the stamina to walk through those shots and keep coming until he landed the more damaging shots
4:19 dodge is unreal
Tony vs cowboy was past Tony’s prime
Ferg with the superman punch off the cage against Pettis😊❤
Can’t we please just go back to June 2019? 😢
The game loved him during this time and he loved it too. Now, he still loves the game but it doesn't love him anymore.
What a difference from his last fight a few days ago. Within seconds it was obvious he had too many wars.
Tony's best skill was his chin, he was never the guy to not take damage. He just could win the damage war because you can't break Tony, even when he's supposed to tap he refuses to. Sad that his chin went away but it was bound to happen over time
Khabib would’ve dogwalked any and all versions of Tony.
@@BestaticbeastDl why would that be true? Its not like he didn't take damage in other fights
@@FrenkieWest32 are u crazy? Did u even watch the fight? In other fights he got touched but recovered and wasn't touched constantly with nice precision and power like Justin did for straight 4 rounds 🤡
@BestaticbeastDl yeah I watched the fight... Do you have any clue on the medical side of head trauma or head injuries? Doesn't sound like it...
Past prime Tony Ferguson has normal abs
Tony started his losing streak when he stopped being really crazy and unorthodox. Every fight he loses he fights like a disciplined fighter besides when he pulls a dumb move like jumping into a guillotine. When he used to turn his back and do somersaults around the cage he was at his best.
That’s a result of his injuries and age. You can’t really explode like that anymore after knee injuries unless you’re like super athletic.
hes still my boy :(
Please mma god, if Tony is to lose tomorrow, let it be a boring decision. i don't want to see Tony unconscious on the floor again
I dont think Tony were never good, he was just tuf
Prime tony wouldn't be tapped by Oliveira, the now tony could get tapped by any youngsters, man changes
The second prime is gonna be even better
In all honesty with his chin up style he always get caught and i knew that he will eventually break .
Shits sad to see. Knew as the bell rang on the gaethje fight he’d never be the same
One of the best. Have a good rest Tony.
Completely different animal from the Tony of today
