For those who don't know, this song is largely based in the raga Marwa. Marwa is an evening raga, and is meant to evoke a mood of serious contemplation and/or bringing out deep-rooted memories in the mind of the listeners. It has two cognate ragas, namely, raga Puriya and raga Sohini; and even distinguishing these three from each other, let alone playing them properly, is not an easy task.
Thanks for the information. Because I was so happy.. after hear the song I became 😭😭😭. So much memories.. I was lil confused. And start thinking what happens to me??😀
I am glad that this was the last song that 'Panditji' had heard before going deaf. This should resonate in his ears till his last breath and remind him what a horrible manipulative father and mentor he had been throughout his entire life. What is an artist with an impure heart?

I think they messed up in the last few episodes.. Atleast 1 episode should have been dedicated to the Mohini's reveal and another dedicated just to her love life with digvijay.. This could have been a masterclass..
This series isn't about badass popstar tamanna's love. This is about Mohini and Digvijay's love. How mohini sacrificed her love for the sake of family, still never looked back once she became a wife, how she gave up her music just to satisfy an insecure person's wish, never sung for 25 years... And Digvijay, he still respects panditji even after what he did to him. After so many years, he still loves the same woman... This is what love is... SACRIFICE ❤️ I loved the concept 💕
Very hard to find this kind of love in today's world. The guy loved her for 25 years straight. She followed her household customs without uttering a word and with such devotion. Maybe that's why they are very good at art. Because art requires heavy devotion and they know how to be devoted.

@@mriduagrawal3124 I'll tell you, I have seen that last episode only once, but still when I am watching this thing on RUclips, I can still imagine those expressions of Atul Kulkarni pretty much clearly!
Can't ignore or forget those eyes of Mohini (unfortunately not shown in this video) when Digvijay is singing this song.. especially when he says "Pal bhar tu dekhe mujhey..zindagi guzar doon.." it seems the pain of separation which was burried deep down for all these years is desperately trying to make its way out through eyes...but Mohini a dedicated wife, mother and daughter-in-law is holding it up..torn between duties and her cry for Love ... is just throbbing, mind-blowing and don't be surprised if it brings tears in your own eyes... Hats off to both Digvijay and Mohini...great actors...superb performance..
Did anybody noticed he aced the facial expressions of Shankar Mahadevan. Usually, singers keep in mind the personality bof of the actor they are singing for. Here we see the actor matching the expressions of a singer to give n impression that he's actually singing the song.
SPOILER ALERT!!! technically if anyone notice Digvijay should be the protagonist (like Karna in Mahabharat).. his Gharana was stolen... Pandit ji left his mother... his love was snatched... but the way he accepted everything with calmness is amazing.. Despite all these things he always admires Pandit Ji and his art also keep a photo of him in his studio.... Same goes for Mohini the way she accepted everything shows great patience. The silent chemistry between Digvijay and Mohini in this song is a treat to watch...
Atul Kulkarni Sir's expression during this song is the ultimate level of acting where very few have reached before. You can feel him cowering, shuddering in pain and 'Virah' but Mohini is too innocent, devout, with high moral character and a pious person. Even if she loves Digvijay more than her life; she will never ever leave her lawfully wedded husband however backward or lazy he is. For me, MOHINI IS THE real poetic GOD who take up all the pain, sufferings for the sake of others but still doesn't utter a word in ego or pride. Even his facial expressions and hand movements for the harkats and aalaps was par excellence. Atul Kulkarni Sir is Karnataka's cinema's greatest gift to mother India
Mohini's sacrifice is revered as of many indian women. She is great character in the series. Overall the series Badish Bandits is a musical masterpiece 👌
@@kallavenkatesh3153 it means that you are torn whether the character is actually the antagonist or the protagonist - much like Shylock in Merchant of Venice. You don't understand whether you support the character of not, it causes you to be in a dilemma, also like Arthur from Joker.
@R R but Digvijay has his own shares of mistakes. Like emotionally blackmailing and lowkey manipulating radhe at times to lower his confidence. Digvijay is a true grey if you ask me.
I loved this series for only reason that it increased my interest towards classical music. I loved all the songs. I actually loved the dialogue of Kunal Kapoor.... "If this art form is not taken to the youth of the nation...it will go Extinct!!"
As someone who has studied Hindustani Classical Music, I can assure you that it is thriving, albeit less than popular music. All you need to do is get rid of the garbage that the media and peer pressure filled in your head about classical music being something that is boring and meant for only fuddy-duddy uncles, and listen to it. Here is a performance in the raga Marwa (same raga in which the above song is largely based) by the late great Pandit Shivkumar Sharma: ruclips.net/video/mJUvNVaSFC0/видео.html.

How can one fill so much emotions in a song of 3 minutes? Is this magic, is this voice heavenly? Does this voice belong to earth? No I guess. Shankar Mahadevan deserves eternal claps for this song.
While everyone was interested in Radhe&Tammana ...I was fascinated by Digvijay & Mohini and their love story...which was an epitome of true love...those lines"pal bhar tu dekhe mujhe... Zindagi guzaar du" and Digvijay nailed it😍😍 Atul Kulkarni should be given a lead role in Bollywood🤗🤗
After watching this scene, I could only wonder how love guides one to be more disciplined and morally correct for one another. We must have seen separation in a love story but this is not that, it's supporting each other by parting ways. That's what Digvijay and Mohini holds. How Mohini felt the pain in Digvijay voice and then in her heart speaks volume. One need not watch an extension of this scene because it makes me imagine how things must have been for all the years after Mohini marries Rajender. This song is as if like a gift from the force of nature. #Shankar sir can't praise you enough ❤️

Can we talk about how Panditji destroyed Mohini's lovelife and singing career at the same time? And STILL, still she never caused a scene and spent so many years loyally serving her family, never had dinner on the same table? I felt soo terribly bad for her I almost cried when she broke down and Radhe had to hold her. Felt like she broke into pieces. At that moment, I lost some of my respect for Panditji tbh. Thanks for listening to my rant. Bye.
The story questions age-old beliefs, patriarchy and orthodoxy in the subtlest ways possible. Naseeruddin Shah steals the show as the symbol of patriarch of the family, and there's not a single scene in the entire series where you don't feel like standing up and applauding at his brilliance.
*Digvijay: 1 Cup chai, Cheeni matt daalna aur adrak matt bhulna* I sensed that they have some past (Even after 26 years he remembers her tea 🍵 choice...) Love 💖 that moment 😍
the most elegant performance of sheeba mam in this song gets me into tears whenever i see this song...at the start of the song she tries to not feel anything and sits straight and by the end she gives up but she can't cry..and we can see her heart crying without tears and that's a really awesome performance...my overall favourite part of this entire series.. I watched this in loop maybe for 100 times and number is no where going to stop atleast in near future...such a brilliant series and awesome actors
same here just too see the expression of all the characters the songs hits deep and our heart starts paining...can feel the pain of Mohini thru her expressions and Digvijay nailed it....
The song is a superb adaptation of Raga Marwa. The ultimate expression of male platonic longing, grief and remorse. The fifth note, Pancham, the banished note, has been intelligently employed to denote the helplessness of lifelong longing. There is a palpable restlessness in the composition.
"Birhan sur taal saanjh aaj tere aage" ..another level of emotion in these words and voice. So beautifully depicted on the screen by Atul sir - the way he as Digvijay looks at Mohini - it shows all his pain but still with pride and dignity! I just felt there should be a longer version of this song. And in general, I felt, Mohini deserved a complete song of her own.
@@maybeen9294 'birhan' means to separate , and saanjh means evening so it roughly translates to ' separated the notes and beats this evening now I'm in front of you '
No modern Bollywood song, or any of those classless remakes can hold a candle to this! Such a refined voice, no autotune can do this. This is pure class, mastery over the art that has come from years of honest dedication, hardwork and talent. Hats off Shankar Mahadevan ji
anyone notice how sad and miserable Rajendra's life was? He has the responsibilty of the whole family on his shoulder, a father who has so many dark secrets and a home he is on the verge of losing. And when he gets to know about Digvijay and Mohini he is heartbroken. That secne really hits me but after the truth comes out I'm relieved they are fine as a family. Sorry for the long comment😊😊
Rajendra life is miserable because he was good for nothing....he never took a stand for his wife, when Panditji ask her to give up music,he never took a stand for himself ... he lost such a big amount because of which whole family was about to loose their ancestral home, and his brother has to sell the rights of his instrument invention, which was his pride to pay the loan ....his son worked hard and raised money by doing small shows....while Rajendra did nothing except complaining about everyone, how his brother is useless, son doesnt respect him and now he get to know his wife also doesnt love him and after that keep on sulking , not giving his contribution for prep of music competition
@@subodhsaran2993 Fact is no one took stand against Pandit ji. And you won't understand the toil of being the eldest son of family and bearing all the responsibilities behind the curtains. Your comment was so stupid. When he complained about it ? Just once , when he found out that the only person in his life he thought loved him didn't love him actually. In that situation he felt alone. Whatever he did was for his family and pandit ji..not for himself. Probably it's too much for you to understand that.
Sheeba chadda was fabulous in her character... I think she got a very few lines. But she completed the arc of her character through her eyes, her behaviour.
Heard from Mr. Anand Tiwari's interview that Shankar Sir made this song instantly in 1 or 2 hours 😳 I had a lump in my throat for that long after hearing & experiencing that song for the 1st time... and he made the entire song in that time. Genius ♡♡♡ Both Shankar Sir and Atul Sir !!!
Can we talk about the pain of Rajender while Digvijay was singing this song? Panditji, in his envy, destroyed Rajender's life too. (Along with Mohini and Digvijay, of course.) Digvijay and Mohini are ruined, but they at least have something to keep them going. Rajender on this other hand is left with nothing!
@@Mr.Old_School Thankfully, I haven't. 😂 But apparently, there's this thing called Empathy, you know. It's like a psychic ability that lets you experience life from another person's point of view. 😜
If you are developing respect, pity, and hate for the very same character, then that actor is of a different class. That's the power of Naseer Sir's acting !!
True , I hate pandit ji for what he has done to his first wife, kid and radhe's mother but one thing i can't ignore is his dedication and respect towards his music this sure calls for respect as a person he might be a bad one but as a musician and singer he sure is a legend
I only have one feeling for pandit ,he's a normal tharki old man who some how knows the art of music . Nothing more than that . digvijay is the real man with dignity
@@vidyalankaareqippingknowle5309 He isn't tharki. Loving someone outside marriage doesn't make him "tharki"... He remained loyal to his second wife. Obviously he was jealous, having double standards and a merciless father. But classical music isn't like other forms. It requires a lot of devotion.
why no one is talking about the fact that in the very end-RADHE SHOULD HAVE SHOWN RESPECT TO THE REAL GURU-HIS MOTHER ...BUT SHE WAS HEARTBREAKINGLY IGNORED
I am not only listening this song Again Again Again Again Again only for Atul kulkarni's mindblowing expressions...... Ooohhh my God....wt an actor, he make this song a LIVING PAIN 😭😍😍❤❤❤❤
Listening to it on Loop, There's something so heartbreaking and fragile yet hard hitting about this song. Mesmerizing and gives real goosebumps. The video adds so much more to it, the backstory the pain and the balant fearlessness which music provides to the singer, of having the privilege of pouring his heart out about the wound of separation and its echoing pain. The song pierces through everyone, the lady, her son, husband, father in law and whole gathering were all made to feel the pain he has been going through. Music earns him respect for his pain. Music like this is transcendental and truly magical.
I agree with everything you say except that the song pierces thru the father-in-law. He is still as hard hearted as they come. Sure he told the family the real story, but I didn't find him softening.

I heard this song in the series and I was in a trance, looked up who sang it, Shankar Mahadevan!. Could not believe it was Shankar Mahadevan who sang it, he has sung it in much lower tone than his usual delivery and wow does it work. Masterpiece. This is one of, if not, the best song in the series.
This song gave me severe goosebumps! I have never been through a breakup in my life, yet this song shook me so much that it moved me to tears. Such a melancholic haunting song performed by my favorite Mr. Shankar Mahadevan and beautifully enacted by the one and only Atul Kulkarni. I also must say that the emotions that both Atul and Ms Chaddha (Mohini) projected in this song was heartbreaking and real! Life can be cruel and painful but courageous are those that face the challenges and move on with so much sacrifice! To all those who loved and lost, salute and respect!!! P.S: Hats off to Sameer Samant the lyricist for penning such moving words!!
The love story of Digvijay and Mohini and the way music united them, the way music remained the only connecting link, the way they did everything for the sake of love and music- is simply heart-wrenching! The scene when Panditji confesses snatching love and music from Mohini and her expressions in that scene- God! My heart crumbles!!! Stellar performers speak volumes through expressions and eye contact. What stalwart performers!

Atul Sir you are the finest artist in Indian cinema, the way you expressed pain was the soul of this song!!!! Been your fan since natrang, each time you have been on screen its an experience to watch you.
Atul Kulkarni Sir's expressions in the Sangeet Samrat competition - JUST FLAWLESS. Radhe did his best but couldn't match the level. Clearly, experience and expertise makes a huge difference in delivery of an artist's performance.
because Radhe is kind of introvert and is less experienced in singing, that flow of emotions come out only after experience. i think he did his part nicely

Why didn't the music of Bandish Bandit become as popular as Neha Kakkar's trash songs? I discovered Garaj Garaj 3 days ago while watching a Kathak choreography on RUclips. I fell in love with the song and decided to watch the series. I watched the entire show today and I am so proud that there are still people left in showbiz who value our culture. Such a beautiful story told musically.

I cannot imagine anyone could portray Digvijay better than you ..
The way he said ‘virah’ before starting singing stole the whole show…pain is b’fully expressed… ‘taaliyon se zyada nishabdata mahaan kalakar ki nishani hoti hai…’…waah
There needs to be a longer version of this song, it doesn’t give closure to the listener making it even more heart breaking. Tadap tadap ke was long enough to tell the entire tale.
I think it's done intentionally that's the whole point of this song to not give a closure to the song because Digvijay's love story did not ended happily with him marrying Mohini

Did anybody noticed he aced the facial expressions of Shankar Mahadevan. Usually, singers keep in mind the personality bof of the actor they are singing for. Here we see the actor matching the expressions of a singer to give n impression that he's actually singing the song.
This song deserves to be atleast 10-12 mins long with extended tabla, sitar and vocal solos. ❤️

The magic is that almost all of the characters had depth in them....the way the show developed in the last couple of episodes was epic
that was a pretty interesting parallel
Very good observation 👍
Bhai Digvijay aur karna ko alag rakho !! Digvijay ko protagonist consider kar sakte hey... lekin karna !! na kabhi nahi

Digvijay is the best example of how a grey character should be written.
Grey character means bro
@@kallavenkatesh3153 it means that you are torn whether the character is actually the antagonist or the protagonist - much like Shylock in Merchant of Venice. You don't understand whether you support the character of not, it causes you to be in a dilemma, also like Arthur from Joker.
True
He was actually a good guy.....grey character or real antogonist is Pandit Ji.....i just hate that guy now
@R R but Digvijay has his own shares of mistakes.
And I loved his acting too!!! Despite the foul words pouring out, he was really good!

Bye.

@@harshsharma6857 No he did that because Mohini could actually sing better than himself(panditji). He did that to stop her from singing ever again.
The story questions age-old beliefs, patriarchy and orthodoxy in the subtlest ways possible. Naseeruddin Shah steals the show as the symbol of patriarch of the family, and there's not a single scene in the entire series where you don't feel like standing up and applauding at his brilliance.
*Digvijay: 1 Cup chai, Cheeni matt daalna aur adrak matt bhulna*

I watched this in loop maybe for 100 times and number is no where going to stop atleast in near future...such a brilliant series and awesome actors
Same here... this scene always gives me goosebumps
same here just too see the expression of all the characters the songs hits deep and our heart starts paining...can feel the pain of Mohini thru her expressions and Digvijay nailed it....
*Digvijay: Mai or Mohini ek doosre se bahut pyaar krte thy, tumhari samajh or umr se bahut zyada*
Now I realised why did he sang this song 👍

anyone notice how sad and miserable Rajendra's life was?
He was a loser. Hated every second he was on the screen.
I felt badly for Rajendra as his father was so,domineering.

Listening to it on Loop,
There's something so heartbreaking and fragile yet hard hitting about this song.

@@Ranbirholic First words when Digvijay sees Mohini in the hotel lobby "Kaisi ho".
This song after lab par aaye was like dijvijay showing radhe what love is.❤️
I just realized this soooo trueeee
Shankar Mahadevan : Masterpiece .weaves magic with this song.gave me goose bumps. Atul Kulkarni : Fantastic .Bollywood as usual missed a great actor.
He is complete from outside, and incomplete from inside. I truly love the untold chemistry between digvijay amd mohini, than radhe and tamanna. Man digvijay is the true hero of this series. He also seems more real in lips sync than radhe. I really love his character portrayal.
It feels as if some divinity has surrounded while listening VIRAH ... It's so soulfully sung ... Hats off to Shankar sir & the hero " Digvijay" ♥️♥️
I agree... If you can relate to the "Ultimate pain" of #Virah then pls do watch my dance cover and give your views in the comments section of the video ..... ruclips.net/video/0tglveOAA2I/видео.html
Heard the song almost a 100 times before watching the series and loved it like anything. Today I heard the song for the first time after watching the entire series and did actually understand it.
Beautiful!
Blissful!
M so proud to be born in a country where music is soo deeply rooted in our culture.. Just listen to the music.. The tabla.. The flute....the music itself touches the heart with extreme grief.. N shankar sir has done a wonderful job.. Complete bliss to my ears.. ❤️
If you are here, this means you have a great taste in music.
I have always admired Atul Kulkarni...but this time I have thorough respect for him. What an actor!!
This song was so nice that even though I have not been in any relationship and not suffered breakups, I was so sad after hearing this!!! Even better than the break up songs of bollywood
True!!
This song is almost three minutes long, and while listening to this time literally flies, I don't realise how and when it ended; so (3 min long) are Dheeme Dheeme, Naagin, Mercy, Pagal and many such songs.... Such is the impact of Hindustani Classical music
Jo dikhta hai wo bikta hai !
One of the best compositions I have heard in a long time.
I had tears in my eyes when I heard this. If you close your eyes and listen to this song, you will be transported to a different dimension... Just beautiful. Shankar Mahadevan you are a legend!
Visually, with Atul Kulkarni's expressions one could feel the pain in loss... Atul Kulkarni you are great... I cannot imagine anyone could portray Digvijay better than you ..
The songs in this series are every classical dancer's love.....sajan bin....virah....garaj garaj the bests !
classical singer's also
@@avanigokhale yeah 😊
Absolutely ....a dancers treat
Yes that's true
The way he said ‘virah’ before starting singing stole the whole show…pain is b’fully expressed… ‘taaliyon se zyada nishabdata mahaan kalakar ki nishani hoti hai…’…waah
There needs to be a longer version of this song, it doesn’t give closure to the listener making it even more heart breaking. Tadap tadap ke was long enough to tell the entire tale.
I think it's done intentionally that's the whole point of this song to not give a closure to the song because Digvijay's love story did not ended happily with him marrying Mohini
listening to this song was for me the highest moment while watching BB. very thankful to Shankar, for this most soulful song, to the music team, for such a beautiful composition, to Atul Kulkarni, for a heart wrenching performance [what a fine actor, always], to Sheba, for performing viraah in grace and silence. very thankful to the makers of this web series, for redefining quality, and for bringing us the music. I don't get around to writing comments, ever... have signed up, expressly, to be able to find a way to thank the makers of BB. I keep watching bits of BB, in repeat, especially this song, and just can't stop myself from recommending it to others all the tme.
Their stoty depicts the numerous number of incomplete love stories in our society. The incomplete desires of a person who neither can leave her present family/world nor go back to her old love/world. Their story depicts in what numbness people live off their lives just for the sake of one's self built family.
I am sure that I am gonna listen this for at least a decade. Not only the music the lyrics but The story is so heart felt.. Kudos to Mohini and Digvijay "such love ♥ "
