    My husband is 79, has Parkinson’s, arthritis and sits on his butt far too much. I showed him this video and suggested he try the exercise. Getting down on the floor and standing up again, was no mean feat......but with encouragement, he did it. To his amazement, he felt relief from the nagging lower back pain immediately. It’s day 4 and he is in far less pain and has found getting down on the floor and standing up, loads easier to do, due to his newly found flexibility . Thanks heaps😀

      SO happy to hear it, Helen. All he needs to do now is KEEP practicing! And I know that you are a great role model for him, so be sure to join him in stretching too :)

    During this pandemic, I did my back in, and I've not been able to even walk 100 yards. Today, RUclips has recommended you twice to me and I've already improved my fitness in less than 12 hours!!!
    I did the drinking a glass of water first thing, then stretches (twice today) , 12,000 steps and now this. I can NOT wait to fix my lower back and cannot thank you enough :) !!

    Thank you so much, when I was off season I trained on my own and completely dismissed stretching. It came back to bite me in the ass because it gave me back pain and horrible muscle spasms and what you just said is what my orthopedic sergeon told me. Anyway now I have to get physical therapy for stretching.

    Great video. Great channel. I see the merit of stretching your hamstrings to alleviate back stress, but aren't there other muscles or muscle complexes that could be also contributing to that stress, e.g. the iliopsoas?

    • @trainingtall
      @trainingtall  6 лет назад +2

      Most definitely.. the iliopsoas, the gluteal muscles, weak lower abdominals... there are a lot. So many muscle groups influence different parts of our bodies. I just mentioned the hamstrings here because I felt that it was one of the muscle groups that has had the least bit of discussion.

    What about anterior pelvic tilt? I thought stretching the hamstrings was thought to be bad for that? And that it would be better to made hamstrings and glutes strong along with core.

    • @trainingtall
      @trainingtall  4 года назад

      It is important to strengthen those muscles too! But more importantly, to address APT, I would focus primarily on strengthening the lower abdominals!

  • @tm2bee
    @tm2bee 3 года назад

    Well I'm not tall by any stretch of the imagination but I'm going to give this a try. I've been in varying amounts of back pain , I can't even describe how extreme, for the last 6 months and have had to put my life on hold. For many years I've had issues with my left hamstring cramping. So maybe the hammy is the issue. I guess I have nothing to lose by giving it a try. The little bit of sanity that I have left won't be a big loss.

    I recently corrected my form (im not over extending the catch - trying to keep heels down) and its fixed small paint around the knee but is causing me to get a major mid-back pump, under the shoulder blades at around 8000m into my row. Is this just from using underdeveloped muscles or did I worsen my form?

    Shouldn't you warm up before stretching any muscle? Also I find that at my age standing up and placing the foot on a chair or couch arm to do these stretches is easier on my back. Hopefully this will work as I have a lot of lower back pain issues. Thanks.

    Ischial tuberosity!! oh my ears. I fractured that bone during my long runs. After major limping and cranky yelling at everyone around me in nursing school lol a doctor finally took an XR 4 months later and told me it was a stress fracture 😱. Do I sound like a bad ass if I can say I broke my pelvis and still made it through nursing school (limping, pain, and determination)? LOL I switched to swimming. I couldn’t believe it was fractured but it made so much sense.

    • @trainingtall
      @trainingtall  6 лет назад

      A great question - you should start doing a single leg hamstring stretch by elevating your leg onto a chair, and leaning over the leg keeping it as straight as possible. Work with this stretch for a few weeks (doing it every day, 2-3 times) and soon you'll be able to do the seated version with both legs!

    • @Stan_801
      @Stan_801 6 лет назад

      @@trainingtall thank you, I had my L5 disk bulge and over the years I've lost (all) flex ability and strength. That at this point if I sit without back support I get a sharp intense shooting pain in my lower back. But I'll start with the stretch. Thanks!
