Great video Steve. I am sorry I didn't get to QSO with you guys. I saw Paul's post on HFnow along with the link to the webcam at Pikes Peak. Thanks for sharing your adventure so I could see what it was like on that end. I love your logo at the end of the video. Great artwork! 73 BBQ Bear
That red surface and the rocks etc literally looks like the surface of some far away planet at times! Well done. I really like your videos and you've inspired me to get out and about with SOTA too! Thanks, 73 Craig VK3CRG
very nice SOTA video brother. i know some local hams who think ham radio is HT's from McDonalds to Burger King on 2 meter simplex. Very nice video. This is real ham radio!
Many years ago I worked several other AM CB stations over 100 miles away from my car atop Pikes Peak. I startled several guys in tiny high plains farming towns who were chatting away back and forth, and who thought I was a stranger in their rural town. I could have done much better except ALL of the channels were loaded with other stations engaged in local conversations, which to me at 14,000 feet sounded like a particularly ugly pile-up. It was very hard to pull any single station out of the noise. I would have tried later that night when there were fewer stations on the air except the park service will send you back down the mountain in the evening. In order to be up there after dark you have to hike up the mountain by trail. For me, that always sounded like far more work than fun.
Looked like the surface of Mars there. One of those sun shelters is a good idea. I have only seen kid sized ones when I have looked before. Will keep an eye out for one. 73s VE3MXU
