VP.Menon was an extraordinary person. It wasn Lord Mountbatten,s auto-biography and the rich tribute for VP in it , that drew some attention to him. I understand he was just a matriculate. He worked in ITC,s Bangalore Unit, before joining the PCS.
He was unmarried, and retired in Bangalore.

According to his grandson, Menon later privately told his daughter-in-law he could not accept a knight-hood (he was offered a knight-hood as a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India - KCSI - in a final imperial honours list in 1948, but refused) for having caused the partition of his country. He too felt responsible, for his share in partition of the country, albeit he had no powers to do anything about partition.
How many public men (Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was another instance, when he didn't accept the conferment of a title, by President Truman of America ) could say that?
