I have built up my EZ library over a number of years, and they're priceless to me. I've also had the honor of chatting with Meg on the phone when I called in with a wool order and questions to Schoolhouse Press. EZ was brilliant, her daughter as well, and their progeny are also running the business. It's hard to overestimate my love and respect for these queens of the knit world.
When l was a kid in the late 60s she was one of the first crafters with a programme on PBS, The Busy Knitter. I learned the word "inkle" from that show: little leftover lengths of yarn, from which we get the word "inkling."
I fell in love with Elizabeth Zimmerman and her daughter Meg years ago after renting one of their videos (VHS). I told everyone that you didn’t even have to knit to enjoy the interaction of the two. I have the whole set and purchased the DVDs when they came out. I learned more about knitting BUT even more enjoyed just watching. Thank you for the reminder.
She's (still) a wonderful teacher. I have every scrap of paper she ever published and they are a treasured and priceless source of inspiration. And so full of trick and hacks of the craft. Also she was a very funny lady obviously.
you all probably dont give a damn but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Franco Zayne I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I bought all the books and the row-by-row from Schoolhouse ... and was afraid to even start! So, decades later, and two weeks ago, I grabbed a cake of yarn sitting on a table and grabbed a circular needle hanging off the lamp - and started!!!! I didn't care about the size of yarn or the size of the circulars. Just knit. I figured, whatever size the finished 'mess' would be would fit someone. Size 10 circular - and #4 weight Mandalay multicolor - and two weeks later and a few frogings and Voila! I have a BSJ!! I now know what it's like to "blindly trust" - and have the finished BSJ. I'm now on my second one - but a solid color and using the different decrease so I can see what the stitches look like. What a fun thing to knit - finally! At 86, I finally made the BSJ.
Listening to her is like eating your favorite bowl of soup when you're sick. It just feels good. Comfort food a matter of fact. I want to learn more about her
Shes my number 1 , knitting GURU! I spent lockdown with my knitting and her books and dvds!

I have this series on DVD! I've watched it several times, and shared with others. I adore Mrs. Zimmerman!

That was great. A knitting legend! Love when she said you'd have to knit "squinchilly" to get a certain gauge on the wrong size needles LOL

Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Malik Gordon glad I could help :)
Professor of Knitting. Genius!
I bought a copy of this series in the eighties on VHS. I watched it until the tapes wouldn't play any longer.
Use whatever size needle it takes to get the gauge with the yarn you are using.

So true. If they say an 8 I use a 4 to get gauge. I am a super loose knitter
I literally JUST read her thoughts on this very gauge discussion in her Knitter's Almanac regarding the Aran sweater pattern.
i don’t bother with what’s the stated needle size as i knit loose and prefer thin needles
I LOVE you Mrs Zimmermann!😘
More!

Omg... Why did I think she was German??
Gidget Coffman her husband's German. They met in Bavaria when she was an art student there.
possibly because the name "Zimmerman" is German
Believe it or not,. Herr Zimmermann was a Master Brewer --- 'The Gaffer', The Old Man' --- quite a team!💕
