Brilliant. This and looping with BlackBox will be my next project.

Sounds like a plan. The black box does look like an amazing sampler, let me know how you get on.

Thanks man, while I guess the Samples is kind of designed as a drum machine you can actually do some very spacey soundscapes with it.

Thanks for this tip ! It’s already sparking plenty of ideas ! I would add a very slow lfo on the frequency to add even more movement.

Yeah, the LFO is really useful for creating movement on these kind of sounds. One of the things I do is put the LFO on pan which helps create movement and space in a mix.

Your vids on the Elektron are very good, you explain things very well.
I have the M:S, and have watched lots of RUclips vids on it, your approach is somewhat unique, making me see the device very differently, and I think it's fair to say you have covered lots in your vids that I have not yet seen elsewhere.
I like what you said about the scales, the sound you have created is almost disturbing, it is chaotic in it's nature and unnerving. It sounds like something from a Sci-Fi film, maybe where some Cosmonaut on Mars is having a mental breakdown and it's all about to turn a bit Lovecraftian?! :D
By choosing a suitable scale it would create harmony, and likely the sound would transform into something rather beautiful I'd imagine?
Keep up the good work, Doc!

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I am a bit of a magpie for music and music tech ideas that all mashup and come out in different ways.
A lot of my stuff ends up with slightly dark undertones to it, I think it is just the way I am built but you are right. With an appropriate choice of scale and sample pad different random harmonies could be created. I would have to learn a bit more about music theory to get there though I think.
There will be more on this device and others coming so please check in again.

Where does everyone get their samples? I've looked at Splice but wondering if it's difficult to weed through the longer samples that aren't conducive to the M:S.

I tend to make my own, check out this video here ruclips.net/video/nLG93u8dfCw/видео.html for making ambient pad style samples using Audacity, or this one here ruclips.net/video/qXTaosbXdhU/видео.html for looking at using feedback pinging to create ambient pad style sounds if you have a mixer with an Aux send.
Anyways, thanks for watching and I hope to see you again sometime.

this really replaced my daw as most used gear and as much as people say pay more to get a digitakt im going to say they should make the samples with 12 on a double stack with input sampling and resampling just because this workflow is way more approachable and fun

I do love this box, and I kind of got it as a cheap introduction to the elektron way of working. I think I will probably go with a digitakt next. I have a yearning for the deluge but I am starting to think that as a performance tool the digitakt will suit my workflow better.

Have fun, it's a very cool machine for live use and the sequencer is really very powerful.
Please comeback for more half arsed tutorials.

@@DocBolus mostly ,,,I need to watch and observe how you get around Samples,,,,I've watched others moved very quickly, but didn't understand why they did what they did,,, their objective wasn't clear,,,,, Thanks again,,,,,I'm not use to the grid format,,,I make my drum sounds through Albelton using a midi keyboard,,,an tapping my way to get the groove,,,here where using evolving sounds in a static state,,,,lm over thinking it I guess,,,, listening to various , artist has helped my approach

You might find this one useful, it picks apart drum loops and touches on how grid sequencing works. There are others but I hope this starts you thinking about what is going on.
