  • Started on the basic layout and mounting of the bed, trying to get it to a usable state so that I can start using it and then modify it how I want as I work it. Gooseneck at the back is still better than a bumper pull, long as you have bags lol. I've got my 3/4 ton tub rig like that, works fine for me.

    How thick of metal did you use on your bed build? Gonna be building one soon and was thinking about using 3/16 on my deck and 1/8 on the rest but not sure yet, thought about doing it all outta 1/8 but haven’t decided. Not gonna hauling a 5th wheel just a bumper pull. Thanks

    What did you do to put the BW companion in? I built my bed and ran my pin for the turn over just like I did. I didn’t realize at the time though the the B&W only pins from the side. I’m curious what you did to fix that issue

    • @j_moffitt
      @j_moffitt  9 месяцев назад

      I never did get a companion for it so I guess I never realized it wouldn’t work. I would probably just drill out the other side on the companion I suppose

    Anybody know a rough estimate for materials?

  • @adamwhite207
    @adamwhite207 4 года назад +1

    Great build! i'm about to start one for my truck. I believe I heard you say in one of these videos that it was 3/16 stock. I was considering using 1/8, would this be too light? Also do you have any estimate of the materials that went into this build? Like how many sheets, tubes, ect. Im trying to put together an order now.

    • @j_moffitt
      @j_moffitt  4 года назад +2

      1/8 would probably be fine, I only used 3/16 for the main frame just so it has a little more rigidity. Think I used maybe 3-4 square tubes and probably about 4-5 sheets of plate depending on how big and how many boxes you build and then some misc angle, solid round, maybe some smaller tube for little framing here and there 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @adamwhite207
      @adamwhite207 4 года назад

      @@j_moffitt I would definitely think to stay with the 3/16 for the frame as well. I was more thinking 1/8 on the plate. And I am glad I asked because I was going to order 3 sheets, I would of hated having to make the long drive to get more. I know it will end up happening regardless though

  • @henrijonas9063
    @henrijonas9063 4 года назад

    Just curious ( i am new to rigs ) can you just weld the bed to the frame and have a more rigid chasis?

    • @j_moffitt
      @j_moffitt  4 года назад +1

      You can but not advised, you want your truck frame to have some “flex” in it. If it’s too beefy you’ll run into other problems of possibly damaging suspension and cracking welds

    Love the start, as I did with your other bed. Like how you ran the ball's release handle to the back, I "think" that'll be more accessible. One piece of constructive criticism: watch the "ums". Even if you're winging it, you don't want to sound like you are. But I'm looking forward to #2.

    • @j_moffitt
      @j_moffitt  5 лет назад +1

      I’m using 10” semi bags so they will hold anything I can put on the truck theoretically and most every over the road tractor trailer has bags so longevity I’m not worried, I may change them out down the road if i see signs of wear but they should be fine for several years
