I'm not surprised, it's one of their best songs. It was actually the first and only Sabaton song I listened to for years (don't know why, really... ). When "Bismarck" was released in 2019 I began to listen to more of their stuff. It was then I became a huge fan. Great reaction, btw!🤘 🇸🇪

Nice reaction once again McJibbin. This war truly changed the history of the whole World, if u truly can see all the connections from that and know history around it. We still live in aftermath of that loss in the end against Russia, with some different decisions the war had been won and history after that something totally else and most likely much better as a whole for all. The thirty years war was almost as important for the world but this one even more. Not many people truly know this. In Sweden, for some decades they don't teach history in a good way as in many countries sorry to say. Anyway respect to you.

Ofc we prop him up more, he is a national hero and villan. He's part of the nations mythology. But he was remarkable, a complex person and very hard to get a grip on. Great reaction. You should go through the entire Carolus rex album, history and song its Sabatons best album.

A Swedish historical figure more comparable to George Washington would be Gustav Vasa, Gustavus Adolphus' grandfather (Charles XII was the great-grandson of Gustavus Adolphus' sister). It all had to do with the Kalmar Union and Stockholm bloodbath which I have limited knowledge about but basically Gustav Vasa "freed" Sweden from being userped by the king of Denmark.

The ignorance of some people are surprising. They have a song called "Rise of Evil" and it's about Hitlers rise to power. The song is literally called Rise of *EVIL* and somehow some people still manage to see it as nazi propaganda.
Back to Carl XII. The reason why he's associated with right wing activists and neo nazis is because they refer to that time as Sweden being a great power, and some of them wants to see that again. That's about it. Again. Some people are just too ignorant to see the whole picture. It's sad, really.

People claim historical figures for their own purposes ALL THE TIME. The Nazis in particular were masters at using historical figures, events, iconograhpy to further their own gains. Everyone, no matter what the era, uses history for their own beneficial purposes. History is not just simply the re-telling of past events, it's also about how we use history in the present and how history affects the future. The neo-nazis use him a symbol of Swedish nationalism but he's also been used for commercial and educational purposes.

Yeah but we should be able to understand the difference. Use history as you like but lets all be adults and understand that that is what people do. The temptation in national politics will always be to use history to your sides advantage. Every one do it left and right.

And then you have even bigger stupidity like people freaking out over things like the okay symbol because they HEARD it hijacked by alt right nazis, which is complete and utter bullshit.
Sometimes I think humanity might just be a failed experiment.

Charles XII was a symbol for Swedish patriotism long before both the Neo-nazis and the real nazis themselves. It just like this that since he was a symbol of patriotism it made him a symbol for rightwing extremism as well they are fanatic nationalists.

I'm sorry to say that every Swedish king named Charles I through Charles VI are fictional characters. A guy named Karl Sverkersson can be considered to be Charles VII, but he never officially used that regnal name. Charles IX (father of Gustavus Adolphus) is the first Charles to actually style himself with numbers. Swedish history is weird like that.

I am glad you're continuing with Sabaton. They have a ton of very good songs but personally my favorite all time has to be "The Last Stand" followed closely by "Winged Hussars." "Carolus Rex" and "Lion from the North" are definitely in my top 10.

Big hug from Sweden. I can tell you Karl XII was early on as a child known to be foolhardy and brash. However hge learned to stay back and watch under the guidance of his tutors like Bengt Oxenstierna he was firm and bigoted. Open tochange with led to Karl XII desire to have a multiculturakl empire. The power Karl XII had was wisely used and he actually created laws which we use today in Sweden. Btw KarlXII was highly multicultural he supported families coming from abroad to settle in Sweden if they had a good skill useful to our Land. To name a few East indian empire, ......

My take is that Charles XII (or Karl XII as we call him in Sweden) was very naïve, as one is at that age. That naïveté served him well until it didn’t.

As you maybe know allready "Sabaton`s" hometown is "Falun" ...in the province of "Dalarna" (which was mentioned in the beginning of the video)
People from Dalarna has historically seen been know as a people who takes no shit" and dont wanted to be ruled over
So it is only natural that "King Gustav Wasa" fled there to escape Denmark.
Its also where Gustav Wasa formed "Livgardet" (The Royal Guard" ) . One of the the worlds oldest military battlegroups in 1521 - Still active today (celebrating 500 years this year!)
Sabaton has a recent musicvideo (or 2 actually One in Swedish and One in English) about them . Look for "Livgardet" or "The Royal Guards"

Sorry for clogging your feed, I just wanted to say thank Gustavus Adolphus (or Gustav II Adolf as we call him in Sweden) is also linked to neo-nazism and ultra nationalism. I think it’s because those people somehow see a link between their racist views and the kings’ battles for the motherland.

Karl XII is our "warrior-hero-king" a symbol for sweden when we was at the greatest, whatever that means but yes, hes a very importent figure in our historic picture of our country
It is not that hard to understand why the right wing extremist has chosen him to be "theire" symbol, if youre a nationalist you wanna show sweden glory days . The most stupid in this is that Karl XII was not the best, he lost the empire, the best was Gustav II Adolf but the stupid skinheads was not enough intrested in history to learn that, school was never theire thing
Dalarna is the area Gustav Wasa went after Stockholm bloodbath, and with the men from Dalarna he formed an army and kicked out the Danish king who ruled in Sweden, called Kristiian the tyrant, he got more or less the oposite name in Dennmark. After that Gustav Wasa formed the swedish state

Neo-Nazis and extreme nationalists have interpreted the greatness of Charles XII as proof that this blonde and blue-eyed king is a perfect example of an Aryan leader. Like a Swedish Adolf Hitler, where the Nordic race has the right to oppress and kill other races. Only to then put Europe under their feet. Carl XII's grandfather, Gustav II Adolf, is another of these role models.
On the other hand, they hate today's royal family, which is far too multicultural, and which also descends from a French general in Napoleon I's army! And therefore can not be seen as real Swedes ... Only that today's king also descends from Gustav IV Adolf, the last king of the family Vaasa, through his great-grandmother, on his father's side.

Ultima Thule and Hel play/ed something called Viking Rock, which is what it sounds like lol, they make songs about vikings, the valkyries, the gods, thor, odin, baldur etc etc
But because some socialist said that thors hammer is a neo n symbol(what a re*****) then everything about vikings must also be neo n stuff.......politicians......they(socialist media and politicians)even tried to ban the national anthem to be played at end of school term
