I absolutely feel your pain clearing out your shed! I am SO scared of the spiders in mine that I literally throw stuff in from the door and run! Definitely need to get it sorted, but can't bring myself to do it!
🤣 Kind of ironic that the "snail eating slug" was on the box of "slug and snail control." Great work clearing out your shed!
The algorithm keeps recommending you to me and I love every video I watch, Emma you are great! :) x
It's very sweet that your husband drew that picture for you, what a nice gesture. Regarding getting rid of the spiders, you first should ask yourself why the spiders are there? They're there because there are flies. Get rid of the flies, and you will get rid of the spiders.
And there because the cracks and crevices and "rubbish" on the floor of the shed provide perfect cover for the ground-dwelling spiders. But it makes me sad that you're so afraid of spiders because they really are wonderful and amazing creatures, very funny and entertaining to watch. (Agree 1000% about the picture too, by the way!)
Peppermint spray works for me every time. Love watching your channel from Canada.🇨🇦
You’ve done great Emma.
Oh my word - I laughed through so much of this episode - and JUMPED every time you did! You've done a great job on the shed - well done!
Your shed is a great place to keep a folding chair so you can have a cup of tea and relax for a bit to enjoy all your hard work. Maybe install a small shelf to hold a mug and a small kettle, or a thermos if you have no electricity. Lovely shed clear out!
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I basically adore you lol
Thanks for the video Emma. BBC's Gardener's Question Time programme was saying that due to the warmer, wet Winter than usual, it's a record year for slugs. They advise starting trapping slugs as early as February. They recommend alcohol free Guinness as the best beer trap.
I have had the best results keeping my seedlings as plugs until the weather dries up a little and the ground has warmed up from the middle to end of April. Plant too early and you lay your plants open to attack. 🐌
A real gardener NEVER gives up !
Hi Emma. I found this video soooo disturbing. Watching you stuffing bags in bags and rolling the fleece up freaked me out. Having OCD means that all my bags have to be folded with neat creases, and so does any fabric I have. 😂😂😂
Also, I did read that leopard eat other slugs....then they eat your veg 🤭
You got new boots! You are doing a great job with your plot
If you lay some sticks across the onion bed on top of the wooden edges between the onion rows, it will help to stop the fox from sitting there. 😉👍❤
Blackberry twigs Emma with big thorns, they won't want to Pearce there paws.
I always do the job I want to do the least first - everything else is a doddle after that 👍 the slug read the box he was sitting on and thought 'Nope I'm out of here' 😆🐌
In being afraid of the spiders, you made your shed an even better home for them!
You were very brave to tackle the spider shed! 🙂
Spiders are friends, especially in the garden and sheds etc.there helping you. No need to be scared of them they won't harm you x
Well done Emma, people may laugh, but if you are scared of spiders, you are and can’t help it. Nothing freezes me except the big house spiders and I have tried not to be scared.
I would have had to get the rake and scrape it all outside first!
The spiders will come back and they are useful.
I really do admire you for making yourself do that, hopefully you are pleased with yourself and not so anxious. I love your channel. Thanks
Feather duster to collect the cobwebs, maybe put the fleece in one of the bags you found hun and hang it up on one of the nails/hooks,? Well done!! X
yes, that was my idea too . Of the floor...
You need some shelves up, lots of hooks and definitely a camping gas stove and a kettle 👍👍👍🍵
It looks good small steps and you will have a pretty good shed and eventually a good plot
Emma d'ont ever change , your a tonic😁!!! I would have never thought to place a stick in the fatball feeder, that's brilliant! And what a fab idea to line shed floor....thanks , i will do both.
I love how you push through tasks that are difficult, you just get it done!😇
Your gonna have a beautiful garden this year, caint wait to see it all bloom
Looking good. Fold the bags, they will probably all fit into 2 bags. You can never have too many strong carrier bags
Hi Emma, I have been watching your blogs for a long time. I think you are very inspirational and tells it how it is. I am an allotment holder in Shrewsbury and have been an allotment holder for about 15years. I wish you were around then!
have you tried peppermint oil as a deterrent for the spiders?
Emma if you have a Home Bargains shop near you they have a great variety of wild bird foods including a 1kg bag of mealworms for £7.99 Bargain 👍
Ahhhh! Spiders!!! Be brave hun!!
Emma I’m also a nervous picker upper.. my solution, about a year ago I got myself a litter picker, grabber, best £6 I’ve ever invested in. When in the shed I can stand at arms length, with the length of the grabber, and grab things from a distance
It’s a whole thing but works
For slugs we used to bury a glass jar so the opening is at ground level and fill halfway with beer. They go in, get drunk and drown. A great way to go.
Hazmat outfit needed! You can sprinkle diatamatous earth around the shed to make spiders leave.
I used my shark cordless at the plot to get rid of webs and dead spiders lol. I find I am scared of spiders at different levels depending on the day I'm having, but doing big stretches and deep breaths and relaxing the body always helps to feel more comfortable around spiders - give it a go!
you need to be at least comfortable with them as you'll never get rid of them is my unsolicited opinion lol
Ah the irony of the huge slug on the “slug & snail control” box… it looked as if it had eaten the contents, was still hungry so munched a big hole in the box 😂
Made me giggle too 😅
Keep Whackin' Them In Emma 👍
I use a broom every spring, to sweep the walls, ceiling and floor, so I know spiders are pulled out. You can put on a raincoat as well, so you are protected for the spiders. Great job 🥳
❤❤❤ you are doing a great cleaning job
Great job with your shed Emma! A few suggestions that might help with your slug and snail issues. 1. use the environmental safe slug poison, 2. try using slug beer traps (very effective and inexpensive), 3. try using fine pine shavings as a mulch. You can buy large bails of this at feed or pet stores(it is used for pet bedding and inexpensive) or try a wool pellet (ordered fron gardener supply company) they are a byproduct of the wool industry in the UK. Both are effective in deterring snails and slugs as these mulches are very irritating to the underside soft bodied pests. I have used all 3 of these in combination to decrease slug damage in my garden, especially after they ate all my spinach seedlings last year! Love watching your vlog here in New England, USA and hope these suggestions help. Great job on your plot, keep up the good work! Kirsten, Manchester, Connecticut, USA.
Feel for with the shed. I’ve been doing the same mine came with my allotment but has been there a few years and has a lot of friends in it… luckily my partner pulled out the old dresser that was in there. I just need to get expanding foam for around the roof. Then give it a paint.
Oh my gosh that is my job tomorrow cleaning out the shed ,I hate spiders also . Plots looking great Emma x
Hiya Emma oh well done tackling the shed. I will be doing same in my backyard soon. Allotment is looking Fab! Take care Luv Southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
I love Emma’s videos, answering the big, existential questions like, what is a broom? 😜😜🤣🤣🤣
I like your adventures! With the mop (dry) to clean spider webs and wet mop for walls etc where you want to clean (a thin layer over the painted wood is fine). I would desinfect everything. After mice it is recommended to throw what came in contact with mice residues and clean with chlorine solutions also make sure you identify where they came from and cover those holes. I would love to have such a big shed. It is also nicely decorated with the sunflowers!
Congratulations Emma, the shed looks a little better. Each time you go home, take one bag of rubbish with you. If you fold up all your fleece, it will be better for the fleece. Treat yourself to a dustpan and brush for the shed.❤
That is a very good idea. Totally agree. When I said that in the comments weeks ago, a got a lot of shit on me...and see now... It is amazing what Emma did today. First start, now the rest and than you can sit again and vlog in your shed on rainy days... Thank you for your comments on this Madeleine (partner in crime ;)
Yes she can sit and eat her lunch whilst admireing her beautiful allotment,s
Broom, dust pan and brush set. A few shelves for your pots. Get a small solar powered light then you can see better in your shed.Just can't believe how few tools you have. ❤
Oh Emma, you really are entering us with your fear of spiders. I know I know its not funny for you, 🤣
You need to get some shelves for a shed, would help keep everything more organised .
I love you episodes, like no another, your personality makes them so much more special ❤
You can use a cordless hoover for the cleaning of your shed. Also foxy can jump easily over even 6 feet fencing 😂
Thank you Emma your very brave going into the shed and the allotment is looking good 🎉🎉
What about planting a bunch of onions and garlic near the crops that continue to get eaten by the slugs. Maybe that will help deter them a bit. Or even planting a sacrificial crop near the crops that you really want to grow so that the slugs will be more drawn to something else and leave your crop alone. Here in the United States, marigolds really attract pollinators and also keep pests away and basil is another crop that will deter bugs that you don't want. This year I am planting onions, basil and marigolds in every garden bed near my main crops. Also, I don't know if you have this in the UK or not, but we have these stinky white poisonous balls that are designed to keep moths away. Ironically, they are called moth balls. I have found that they work for other bugs too. Not sure if you have them, but that is an idea for the spiders. I bet it will work. If you put a few inside the shed, the spiders and possibly other bugs will scatter soon enough.
Most battery powered tool set have a small Hoover or a battery powered dust buster should work
Nice Bird food😊
Good job on the shed clearout. You need a shelf and a few hooks "for scissors" etc. Possibly a tool rack.
I have to clean my shed as well but the mess was good. Last year they broke into many sheds on our allotment site and stole a lot. Mine they opened and didn't take the time to steal something because the mess was protecting the precious things 😀 You can put Einstein's worms into a metal box then the mice can't get hold of them.
Well done in cleaning up the shed. The mess and you not being able to find your tools was giving me anxiety. Good job now just return your tool to the shed at the end of your day.
Hi Emma
The birds I feed in my garden love fat balls
But I Al.so
Use cardboard rolls from loo paper
Cover them in peanut butter
Roll in bird seed ,
Thread a string through the roll ,
And hang from tree
Lasts a few days ,and wil be ideal when ur not there
The birds absolutely love it ,
Good on you for clearing out the shed! Maybe you could utilize a couple of the sturdy bags to contain your netting and fleece.
Thank you !
Congratulations on the clean shed. My goal is to do mine this week or so. Or at least organize it. Have a blessed day!
Well done with the shed. Love your new wellies.
I keep in my shed the fluffy tool that has sort of sweetcorn "hair"-y stuff all around it (sort of sweeper brush). And when the spiders 🕷️ have done overwhelming amount of webs 🕸️ then you just sweep 🧹 them away. For a shed it is good enough and it takes next to nothing of your effort. Just being a bit brave. But I can see now: you can do it!
Haha spiders make me jump too! I can't afford to have a messy shed though... Everything I able to buy is so precious so have to take good care of it
You are braver than me, I don’t like going in to our shed, I’m lucky my husband goes to the allotment with me, so he gets the jobs like clearing out the shed for bugs/spiders.
Well done on making a start on your shed 👍 it’s looks neat already. I want to share a video with you, but i know how scared you are of them. My little Robin friend has recently gone mad for eating Spiders, he flies into my shed and helps himself and he goes for great big ones too. So maybe leaving your shed door open for Einstein may be an option, my Robin even comes in when I’m in there (and it’s a tiny shed) he’s so tame, he loves woodlice too and my shed has them aswell. When it comes to packaged foods he much prefers eating from a floor feeder whilst I’m around and his favourite things are rspb favourites blend, buggy nibbles, and crumbled vegan suet cakes ❤️ 🐦
Hi fellow gardener the Tesco's by us in Liverpool sells mealworm and bird seed etc so try your local store lots of love Daron and Carla
Kudos to you for getting a handle on your shed, it'll be so nice to have it usable again! Re: slug deterrents... have you tried slug collars? I know you can't place them around every seedling you put out but having some may be useful/helpful.
I feel you’re pain re spiders .nasty things .plot looking lovely xx
So proud of you for tackling the shed. I tried to clean mine up last autumn (I think). It's very old and falling apart. It came with the house when we bought it about 2 decades ago and. Ow it's just literally being held up by all the stuff inside it and a climbing hydrangea on the outside. I know what's in it but getting to some stuff, like the bag of chicken manure, is a nightmare. And the door, because of the wonkyness of the shed is a nightmare to open or close. So, keep that shed tidy or you end up with what I got.
Great idea with stapling tarpaulin to the floor in the shed, I'm going to do that too as the floor can get messy.
A broom will do the trick but a battery powered vacuum would work too. Just make sure it is fully charged before you head out to the allotment.
Such a good video you're so funny😊
Theyre around because of the fresh wood chips.they love that.
I think citrus works for spiders, maybe a lemon 🍋 juice spray.
Where’s all your wind and hail? I’ve not touched my plot today because we’ve had three of the four seasons today!
Perhaps a few more shelves and a broom for those spider webs!
Emma robins tend to be ground feeders or from bird tables due to them being flat. Robins in our garden do not eat from hanging feeders or like fat balls . Other small birds like them though. Your shed reminds me of my grandsons car. Sheds are not meant to be perfect but it does help in finding things like your scissors which I notice you did not hang up, if tidy also a place to sit and have a cuppa.😉😎
👍that's it we got to keep growing
Some lovely plants etc will grow perfectly ❤
Fantastisch Good work Emma's te moostiunkas thans te video good week 🌱⛅👍☕🧤💐❤🌷
Buy a battery powered wardrobe sensor light, have them in a couple of sheds/garage that don't have power.
My Robin doesn't ever want the fat balls 😅 I have to buy worms or I feel guilty. I top up his bowl every morning and he waits for me. ❤ lovely arnt they x
Wow Emma, what a great job you have done with the shed. It looks much better. That broom is to die for 😂😂😂. Yes, the table and under it will be done next. How is Eistein doing with the new meal?
Great vlog Emma, well done for getting started on spring cleaning your shed,
Itll look great soon,
Robin's are ground feeders so the closer to the ground the better for them,
Interesting about the big slug being a good slug,
I hope my new allotment has some,
Look for to your next vlog
Happy planting x
Good job Emma
On cleaning up your shed. I was praying for you. Your garden is looking nice. Happy gardening
Hey Emma, buy a broom and everyday you go to your allotment sweep out from the roof down, the spiders might give up and move somewhere else 😂
I feed the birds all year round and have never seen a robin eat or use a fat ball they like meal worms and suet pellets ❤
🐝Thanks for the great video🌻 🕷🕸🕸🕸🕸
Conkers do work actually love this method so maybe Conkers and mint spray
Hi Emma well done on clearing your shed before summer arrives. Aren't conkers used to deter spiders? Maybe collect some later in the year if so. The plots are looking great and you've worked so hard to get them looking good. 😀
Get a longer handled duster that has throw away cloth like a Swiffer in USA.
Fantastisch Good work Emmas you the best te moostuinkas thans te video Good week 💞👍🌤🧤🌷💐🛖🧅🌱
you say that about bugs not liking onions but multiple of my onion tops have been nibbled!!!!
You could do with encouraging hedgehogs or slow worms to control slugs and snails on your plot. Unfortunately, these lovely creatures are a staple diet of foxes! ...discourage/get rid of the fox! 😂👍
i always tell my kids spiders as goodies they eat all the bad bugs so you dont get sick ...they are more scared of you you have long legs and arm just like the spider but he has a few more
Emma you could have taken a rake and pulled everything out of your shed
That would be too easy and not as entertaining! Even easier would be to have a trashbag to throw trash in instead of on the floor, but again, not entertaining lol
First she would have to find the rake 😂
I don’t mean to be judgmental ,but the mess would drive me insane ,I get stressed by mess ,it hurts my brain !..I’d have to have it pretty with a chandelier hanging !!!
Thanks for the video Emma.. 💐 Wearing new boots? 😊
You're right about the slug they eat other slugs and rotten plants, then shit it all out, which is good for the soil. They do like to get into sheds 😮
😅 glad I'm not the only one scream gardening for the first time
I wasn't as brave as you. I used a garden rake to clear an old shed. Didn't step inside until I could see all the floor
All you need is a broom to brush the cobwebs off the walls of the shed.
There is a spray you can get to deter the spidersxx
Loverly wellies ❤
