I am about to do my 1st "barn quilt" only its small and will just be a wall hanging. I have done many different crafts and this is the beginning of a new adventure for this 70 year old woman!
I am 85 and just retired from working as a substance abuse counselor for 30 years. The local Senior Citizens have a quilting group and they do other projects as well. I decided to attend and quilting with fabric just isn't my thing, I have a beautiful barn quilt that my friend gave me many years ago. It never got to the barn as I quickly placed it in my entrance hall. I have decided that if working with fabric wasn't my calling I could make barns quilts. I am researching and figuring the whole art out. I am very excited and can't wait to get started. So glad to see your work and read your article. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this inspirational journey! I've always had a soft spot for Barn Quilts in my "mature years!" I never was a quilter as a young girl but watched my Great Grandmother hand quilt her days away. I started quilting a few years ago and loved the challenge. My newly diagnosed MS makes it quite a bit more challenging now... You have given me much inspiration, for an art I do not want to be lost, in a way I may be able to continue! Thank you sir so very much!!! You have made my day!
Thank you so much for the inspiration. I made so many mistakes on my first one that I had to laugh at myself! Then, after all the work to get it right, I ruined it by putting spar urethane on it. I plan to hang it up so I won’t ever forget to do my own homework. Lol.
Bless this gentleman for follow what the Lord said: "Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35 Amen
Wow, that is so great!.I also make quilts, I've made some for Linus that go to sick children. I have always wanted one of those Barn Quilt Blocks. The one next to you is one of my favorites. You do a wonderful job!
I want to learn to do these barn quilts, what would be your best advise to get going? What kind of wood do you use for them? The size and thickness. I have always wanted one of these and want so much to have a few of them. Help me with information and the how to get going. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Beautiful work and a wonderful story. I would love to know the pattern name of the barn quilt with the blue background and a 'compass star' picture. The colors are white, brown, green, gold, red and light blue. It is next to the gentleman when he is sitting in his chair. Thank you.
"Be Daring! What a wonderful attitude. Fantastic artwork and a generous spirit. Sending a virtual hug your way!
I hope he's still alive and doing well. ❤️ what a wonderful thoughtful man!
