A lot of the training principles for dogs can also be applied to little humans. Things like the ability to listen, control one's behavior and emotional impulses, as well as pay attention. Your daughter is quite lucky to have a father like you

Yup I have a 2-month-old Pitbull lab mix, can't leave him off leash with my 4 year old. He gets nippy and he's got the teeth and the bite power to do damage. Happy licks can quickly become nips, and when small kids get scared they act like prey, get's the dog's instincts even more riled up.

My lab pit JUST passed and he was THE best dog ever. Most tolerant dog I've ever seen with my children, while still training them to be gentle with him (reinforcing, really- I was working on that, too.) I hope yours is just as wonderful for your family.

I have a 2 year old pit lab! We started telling him to " get a chewy " and giving him a chew toy when he got excited as a puppy. Pretty quickly he caught on and started to get a chewy on his own when he gets excited. They are super smart

For an update, now almost 5 months, just got his adult canines, still mouths us a lot but has developed good control so he doesn't hurt ever, just drools. Still too excited around the little one to be completely unsupervised but doing much better overall. They play together every day. The training has been going well, he's a good boy. We're getting the prong collar next month to polish his walking and keep him in check through his adolescence. He is still a big boy and likes to challenge authority at times, but nothing I can't handle.

Seems like common sense but common sense ain’t that common anymore. Thanks for sharing as always!! I’m sure you’ve helped so many dogs even with just your videos, great work

My pup and I def accidentally contributed to some kid’s childhood trauma. His dad let him walk off with the leash of their young shepherd mix and he ditched the kid to come say hi. Suffice to say, there were many tears

It makes sense to me, I don't let my wife take our dog certain places or certain times of the day because she doesn't read the environment or stay in tuned with him enough for my liking. He loves her and doesn't like being too far from her but she hasn't mastered the reaction/ correction levels he needs sometimes.

Some parents are missing a bolt when it comes to being responsible letting kids play with some pets.

You train the dogs! You lead the pack! And you learn the dogs your kids are higher then them! My Lab would go with all people - young, old, in a wheelchair or whatever- to be with the human! She was the alpha female in the neighbourhood. And also great with sick people. We live next to a hospitol for really wounded people. From war and accidents or sickness. She loved to be with the daughter of a girlfriend who had diabetes. And when she got sick she always asked for Noa. And I'll bring her. And while this little girl was sick she jumped on bed with her and stayed there. SOmetimes for a whole weekend. She didn't cure the sickness. But at least the little girls sickness was gone for some days. That girl grew up good and every weekend came to my house, to ask if she could take my dog out. And I never said no!

There are to small amounts of breeders and dogtrainers/dogschools who can give good advice how to involve children with raising a puppy/dog. If I read on the internet how many dogs put up for adoption and the reason is that the dog can’t cooperate with the children… it is to many. Thanks for the advice.

Agree with you 100%. My son tags along and helps out with some of my more experienced and “proofed” dog teams. I also let him play with the younger puppies when we do some one on ones with them. But ain’t no way ima let him getting involved in a session with a dog I haven’t been working with very long.

It's almost counterintuitive, isn't it? A grown dog like Thanos is way stronger and faster than the pups and COULD even take an adult like you or me for a drag, nevermind a kid, but he WON'T because he knows better, so the smaller, weaker puppy is more of a risk because he's more likely to try in the first place.

Yeah, and it's not the size or age of a person neither. How many times have htey tried to snap at someome? Not a bad thing as it's natural to sniff out a bad weed for a dog every blue moon, no?

Do your dogs ever get super defensive over your wife and kids? Like maybe giving you or other people/dogs a little nip/growl when they get too close to your kids, and what is that type of behaviour called, or how would you address it?
