Lmfaoooo! I literally just started singing it inside my head just now. Then I thought how funny it would be if someone heard that out of context hahahahahahahaha!
As creepy as he was, I freaking loved Teddy when I was younger. My pre-school had the old 80's version and I thought it was sooooo cool, so I made my mom buy me a 2006 backpack toys version. When I got out of preschool the preschool teachers gave me the old Grubby doll they had because it didn't work anymore, so even though it doesn't work, it still sits on my shelf and I feel good whenever I look at it. I want to get a 80's teddy so I can test the grubby and see if I can get him to work again
I had one when I was young, I loved it.. Gave it to my little sister, one day, he was reading her a story, And his bottom jaw fell off...She never used it again...
After watching the movie Ted this past weekend, I have to LOL whenever I think of Teddy Ruxpin. I had a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little and the movie Ted just made my childhood frikin' hilarious!
"Come Dream with me tonight...du du du du du....." I still remember the little intro when you first started the tape. Scary I know. Oh crap...I just realized the thing is very likely still somewhere buried in my basement! I have to go now...(lightning strikes)..Can't believe I still have that thing from 86 when I was 4. I guess I need to clean my basement but not with that thing hiding down there somewhere...lol
I was maybe 6 or 7 when I got mine for Christmas. I BEGGED for one. This is my all time favorite Christmas gift/memory as a child. In fact, that was a great Christmas because I got a Cabbage Patch kid that year, too! Yes, we generation Y'ers are approaching 30. Hell, I will be 30 next year! But I'm not getting older. I'm getting BETTER! :D Much love for all of my fellow 80's children!
I had something similar, called 2XL. A story telling robot using cassette tapes, and you press the buttons on the front, for "choose your own adventure" type stories.
I got a teddy ruzpin for christmas in 88, i remember it turning on randomly one night and it completely scared me to death, maybe cuz my dad let me watch chucky a few days before.
@TheDudeYouHateToMeet: Exactly. The tapes were specifically meant to work inside of Teddy's cassette. If you tried playing them on regular cassette players, all you would hear is shrill noise. The 90's robot 2XLL was similar, as his cassette wouldn't even play anything if you tried to use regular cassette players on them. These cassettes were specifically made for the toys they were designed for.
Hopped a ride in a friends car during H.S. Teddy was strapped in the back seat loaded with a Van Halen cassette. Had a little trouble with the "Hot For Teacher" intro, but handled the rest of it pretty well.
I got my son a Teddy Ruxpin when he was little and he loved him. He'd always listen to the bedtime story tape when he'd go to sleep at night. I still have Teddy Ruxpin but the bottom part of his mouth broke off, but he still works, I also got the other animal that connected to him, some type of dog or lion can't remember what his name was!
I used to love Teddy Ruxpin as a kid. I also had the Mickey Mouse that did the same thing. Though I can't help but think now that the toy was less for kids and more for parents who didn't want to read their kids bedtime stories XD
WOW thats the sweestes story i ever heard! He gets points. Too bad he has to bring that up everytime u wont let him do something HE wanna do lol. :) Thanks for sharing that. it made me smile.
Tell me about it. Even when I was a kid watching this commercial and I think about it now and I ask: Is this a kid's toy commercial or a trailer/TV spot to a horror movie?
i remember when a kid brought a teddy ruxpin to show and tell in kindergarten, it started playing bloodbath in paraidse, that ended show and tell forever in that school
The one I had as a kid was used when I got it ( we were poor) and after a few months the motor started wearing down and his jaw popped off. So he would speak with a low demonic voice and you could hear and see the whirring of gears in his mouth. imagine THAT sitting in the corner of your room, just staring at you.
We were so broke that my mom taped a tape recorder to the back of a teddy bear and tried to pass it off as a Teddy Ruxpin doll. She even tried to get me to take that shit to Show and Tell at school. 😂😂😂😂😂
My birh-father got me one of these when we visited NY from Japan. I named him Ah-Kuma(Akuma means demonm and Kuma means bear) when we got back to Tokyo. I'd hit the play and rewind button simultaneously on the back, and scare my friends. Yes, I am a metal-head. LOL.
I remember my mom bought one for my younger brother (who is about 10 years younger than me), we got it all set up for him, started it up and it spoked the he'll out of our family dog. Corky (our collie/begal mix) turn her head looked at it then lunged at it! LOL! She was a really calm and friendly dog, so when she attacked Teddy, I think she thought it was attacking my kid brother LOL! Mom was able to save teddy, and the only damage was a torn ear and and she patched up Teddy's nose!
I know someone who had one and they accidentally dropped him and his voice got messed up and he talked inappropriately afterwards and never talked right again
My sister had the talking mother goose. I remember putting a Van Halen tape in it to see if it could lip sync it, which it did really fast then there lip stopped moving. Sister wasn't happy

When I was 6 my aunt brought me a Teddy Ruxpin for my birthday......I still have it.
I wish I still had mine, I use to fall asleep to him talking when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and would carry him around everywhere with me
My grandma just came home with one from the thrift store today and I'm literally in love. I want to keep him to the point I sobbed
I used to put heavy metal tapes into my sister's Teddy Ruxpin. Sometimes the expressions on Teddy's face were priceless!
😂😂
To this day I STILL have my Teddy Ruxpin doll, it's not that scary...he's cute!:-)
Do you still have it ?
It's 2022
No, I wish I had mine
Favorite toy period. I called him my teddy rubskin lol
I remember the one song he would sing "Its so hot! It'll almost drive you crazy!" In the storybook that went along, he was in the desert.
Lmfaoooo! I literally just started singing it inside my head just now. Then I thought how funny it would be if someone heard that out of context hahahahahahahaha!

i remember that commercial being on tv, holy crap.
I never got a Teddy Ruxpin, I had the Pamela the Talking Doll, instead.
Hopped a ride in a friends car during H.S.
Teddy was strapped in the back seat loaded with a Van Halen cassette.
Had a little trouble with the "Hot For Teacher" intro, but handled the rest of it pretty well.
aww i feel your pain...i never had a stretch armstrong! or a hoverboard for that matter...

Completely the wrong tone of commercial for the product being advertised.
Tell me about it. Even when I was a kid watching this commercial and I think about it now and I ask: Is this a kid's toy commercial or a trailer/TV spot to a horror movie?

You could put any tape in him, even Cannibal Corps. Teddy could rock out.

We were so broke that my mom taped a tape recorder to the back of a teddy bear and tried to pass it off as a Teddy Ruxpin doll. She even tried to get me to take that shit to Show and Tell at school. 😂😂😂😂😂
Check your facts ArcadeSpookyTree. The commercial was by Worlds of Wonder. Playskool didn't make a version until the 90's.
I used to have one of those.
LOL.
I wish i could get one again

LMFAO!!! how the hell did you break his jaw?
My neighbor had a Teddy Ruxpin and a talking Mother Goose doll.
I never realized why i was creeped out by this as a kid... I must have saw this commercial.
My sister used to have a Teddy Ruxpin and it used to scare the living shit out of me. It still does now that I see it again. Perhaps even more now.
this was the ad for Teddy Ruxpin? Good god, how did he become so popular with a twisted ad like that!
What's trending brought me here.
