I like the service momentum of Yu Chentong. I can understand that ppl had hard time returning it. Persson was in a sick form and readed his serves very good. The chinese guy couldent hold down Perssons heavy and deep forehands. Intresting player this Yu, too bad we never saw him again.
Persson was on a tear but somehow he lost to Waldner in the final. Persson is one of the best TT players ever. Too bad, he lost some of his mobility after 1993???
I understand what you mean but also it was Waldners time to get a main title appelgren and persson had that.. Waldner lost final in Ec 82 ec semi 88 WC final 87 im glad Persson won in wc final 1991 so it turned out good i think.

A match prooving short pips old penhold was getting weak. Yu bt a poor jaing in qtr too

In 1989, Yu was under high pressure. All the expectation and hope were in Yu's side. It affected the performance.
Yes he would have been better off letting jaing win qtr. After that performance coach wished he ordered it like 87 xin hua

@steffo611 Teng Yi lost to M. Grman (a left hand shakehand player). Chen lost to Kim Taek Soo (not confirm).
this is just sad... persson was in such tremendous form and he still couldnt beat waldner in finals. just how badass would it have been if he won?!
