Thanks for the video bro! Got my wife’s car all fixed up. Her third light actually cracked on one end and had lifted on the other. More preventative for us but the video was really helpful. Wanted to add that the nuts are supposed to come off completely, if they just spin then the bolt on the light has broken free and you’ll have to have a second person with pliers on the top side to get them off completely.
I got the same a few years ago. I believe the new third brake light purchased is from a Chevy Cruze. I have the same problem again but I am going to purchase the correct replacement this time
Rainy morning & my 2018 Chevy Malibu has that leak right from this light! Thats crazy how we all have the same darn problem & Chevy don’t fix common problems. Thanks!
Mine cracked too and it smells musty in my car. Dealership acts like it's my fault saying something fell on it. Lol 🤣 I know better I've been having issues since before it cracked and they charged me 150.00 to look at it and said nothing was wrong with it, and that the previous owner had it changed. They changed it with the same defective product.
I'm getting ready to do this on a 17 Malibu. I'm going to lay the back seat down and remove both coat hooks on each side of the headliner, that way I can pull the headliner down more.
Hey Rico, How did you notice it was leaking? I have a 2018 and noticed water on the side of my headliner. just wondering how to diagnose it before I buy the light or maybe its the window>?
Not so easy to do. I thought it was a a minor leak until my battery died ... I had to sneak a backseat down, and open the the trunk using a broom handle. Two inches of water in my spare tire well! Most important, after you remove nuts, look for clip on middle plastic post, and run a plastic putty knife around the back of the light. Mine had a sticky "gasket" along the top, suprise!!

I've changed this out 4 times on my 2017 malibu. At this point it's scheduled maintenance.
Thank you 🙏🏽 I have a 2016 Malibu and the dealership told me this would take over 3 hrs to fix and they wanted to charge me over $700 for the repair 😒

There is a recall on this light on several years but Chevrolet told me my 2018 isn't under the recall. Crazy.
Same problem got that fix. Now the third brake light is cracked. Many people with the same problem
It's on mine but because I have a rebuilt title they don't honor the recall smh.
Thank you , very helpful.
My third brake light has a crack.. I got the water problem fixed about a year ago, and now I have a new problem Smh.

What water problem?
Thanks for this info. Definitely having this problem. Hopefully it’s the only issue. 🤞🏾
That should fix your problem.
How hard was it to get the bolts off & back on under the headliner?
It’s not that hard if you take your time, good luck 😊

Very informative! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching 😊
How do we get a recall on this? It's ridiculous how often this happens.
Thank You. My 2016 Chevy Cruze has the exact same problem. I can't take it through a carwash unless I want to make my car leak inside heh heh.
Glad the video helped 👍🏾
@@RicoChevy404how much you charge 😅
What brand is that replacement part… Amazon has a few… and is it still holding up?
GM Genuine Parts 84277408 High... www.amazon.com/dp/B07J9YGZNQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@RicoChevy404 Thank you! I'm having this same issue. About to order one and replace it. Thank you again, good sir!

I would definitely change out the break light before doing anything else. There was a GM bulletin about this being an issue with leaking.
Also Chevy will replace it for you IF UR MILEAGE IS UNDER 72K@RicoChevy404
Anyone know the name of the red tool he used to remove the rubber bolts
It’s a prying tool you can buy on Amazon. Just do a quick search on there
