Techniques for painting in the loose style - Watercolor

In this video you will see some of my techniques for painting in the loose style. Watercolor techniques can be quite different compared to those used in other mediums. In this painting demonstration I will show you how to handle the foreground so that it is not too busy but also not too flat. I will also show you how I infer multiple trees without having to add the highly detailed individual shapes.

Interesting process. I wasn’t exactly with you as you spent so much time on the background. One thing about watercolor that annoys me is spending so much time/effort on just one aspect. I want to splash some paint around though I’m not very successful with this method. Looser for me? Just this morning I completed a painting that I attacked with abandon. It’s an okay painting but a breakthrough for me. I’m encouraged to follow this path right now. I find your painting today not as loose as I would like, but I don’t know what I could to break through my barriers. Maybe I’ll give it a go tomorrow. Ciao.
