  • In this video I show you guys the absolute easiest way to get your 35mm film onto the developing reel. ATTENTION, after the film is on the reel, the rest must be done in complete darkness! This is just to get your film started on the reel! This will prevent you from getting stuck in the darkroom trying to load your film and creasing it up and getting sweaty! When I first started developing I got stuck fumbling around with my film many times. This will help you avoid just that!

I have developed my own film for over 60 years. I'm ashamed to say that I have never thought of doing that with my 35mm film. It definitely is a great timesaver. I used to use metal reels quite a bit and this wouldn't work well but for Patterson or Jobo reels it is a great technique.

I tried metal reels a long time ago but found them to be really difficult to load so I went to Paterson. Couldn’t be happier with those! This little prep does help streamline the process a bit.

I have always wondered why my teacher didnt say u could do it that way. It always made more sense than opening the canister and playing around with the mess.
