- The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC features the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with steel springs and a variable damping system as standard. The GLC is the sole model in this market segment to offer the option of fitting the chassis with a full-support multi-chamber air suspension system and electronically controlled, continuously adjustable damping. The AIR BODY CONTROL suspension combines excellent driving stability and sporty agility with optimum comfort and outstanding off-road capabilities. Specific characteristics are pre-selected according to the settings of the DYNAMIC SELECT driving dynamics program. In Sport mode the GLC's occupants feel as if they are sitting in a sports car with a high level of lateral dynamics due to the tauter connection of the chassis, which is additionally lowered by 15 millimetres. Comfort mode offers the very opposite ride experience, focussing on particularly comfortable running with soft connection of the chassis. To ensure maximum driving safety in this mode, too, the spring and damper forces adapt within 60 milliseconds in response to sudden evasive manoeuvres, for example.
When the GLC is equipped with the Off-Road Engineering package, AIR BODY CONTROL optimises the wheels' surface contact, ensuring good progress in off‑road terrain, by raising the driving level by up to 50 mm and providing for particularly soft basic tuning. Further benefits of the system include reduced rolling during cornering, automatic level control and lowering of the load compartment sill for convenient loading and unloading.
The new GLC offers the DYNAMIC SELECT handling control system with five driving programs as standard. In addition to the ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+ and INDIVIDUAL settings which are familiar from other models, the new all-rounder can also be equipped with the Off-Road Engineering package. This comprises up to five programs. Four off-road specific driving modes apart from "Slippery" are completely new: Offroad, Incline, Rocking with a ground clearance of up to 227 millimetres in conjunction with AIR BODY CONTROL and a trailer. The latter facilitates moving off with an attached trailer on wet grass, for example. Like the DYNAMIC SELECT modes, all the off-road driving modes are individually depicted on the central media display.
The nine-stage 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission also comes as standard for the GLC 220 d 4MATIC, GLC 250 d 4MATIC and GLC 250 4MATIC. Depending on the mode selected for the DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control, the automatic transmission with a torque converter boasts great agility and responsiveness or poised composure. As with all hybrid models from Mercedes-Benz, the GLC 350 e 4MATIC is equipped with the latest version of 7G-TRONIC PLUS, which has been specifically optimised in line with the needs of hybrid applications and also combines high driving dynamics with excellent drive comfort and superior efficiency.

I drove this car on a gravel country road recently and I am impressed with its abilities. I also crossed a sandy dry river with ease. Incredible car❤❤
I've had my GLC for almost 2 years. The sales girl had told me she was part of a group who took these off roading in Alabama and Georgia. I was like "yeah yeah sure", but now I see it's possible lol.
Just test drove this today, alongside a Q5 and Discovery Sport. Not sure where the poster had the mic, but the sales guy drove past us and it wasn't this noisy. Inside it's very quiet too. Have to say it isn't as refined as the Q5. The interior is very nice, too nice for a practical SUV. High gloss surface that will scratch. Our test had 300 miles on it and had scratches all over the piano black finish/trim.
NEVER EXPECTED THIS NOISE FROM DIESEL ENGINE OF A MERCEDES BENZ!!!!!!!

Does the diesel engine have anything to do with the sound? I have the regular petrol version of this and it sounds way different.
It has everything to do with the sound.

Andres Zentay some of the best off roaders have monoque chassis’s, they do not define an off road vehicle at all, plus it has a better all wheel drive system than most things it will easily hang with a discovery sport, and a jeep Cherokee

Would a clear bra wrap protect the 350e from scratches off-road? Thinking about selling my Land Rover and getting a GLC 350e (mostly for the gas mileage!!). Advice welcomed.
I got pfp done for my glc black. And i recommend. And it helps alot esp with dust and other stuff like stones as well.
Why on earth I’ll take a Benz for off-road. These are not OffRoad cars. Too expensive parts for off-road beating. If you think you need an off-road car, easy, buy a Toyota!

It's not replacement for glk. It's a new one based off the c class. Similar to GLE replacing ML class which is based of e class.

Really Mercedes? Making a vehicle seem cool with its off road capabilities that owners will never use and that add complexity that will just break.
+Aaron F The offroad capability doesn't add any more complexity, because Mercedes uses traction control instead of real diff locks, and the equipment that the traction control needs are already there because of ABS and stability control. So the only added complexity is a few lines of code in the computer of the car.
And well of course proper off road vehicle should have a different kind of suspension setup, but those usually increase the durability over traditional car.

It's funny because I test drove this GLC Diesel, and you can barely hear this ugly 4-cyl. Diesel noise inside the car.
