Amazing how this guy whent from this small garage to the shop his at now. Great job
Did I just unlock the original Fonzie video? 😧
This has got to be some hidden reward for binging 40 DYC videos in the last five days.
I used this video to help me learn so I could put matte black rally stripes on my black 2015 camaro ss and it turned out flawless. Thanks for the help.
+cory Browne Yeah I'm thinking about using Plasti Dip to do stripes on my 2010 Camaro. Looks like you can do so much to your car with this stuff.
Painters tape the first layer, electrical the next 3. The electrical will peel off easily from the other layers and the last layer of blue painters won't leave residue
Man if only I seen this vid earlier would've saved me a couple cans of black for some jagged edges lol.
yep, just waisted a couple of cans myself and most of a day
@@Justonevet Same so fucking pissed, then this vid shows up.... time to do it again fml
@valery I'm pretty sure he has updated his method on making these solid lines. So you can remove the tape on the last coat as long as it is wet because the bottom layers re-liquify as you lay on each coat.
instructions so clear, didnt get my duck stuck anywhere...
Syed Saif-ul-Islam Ahmer lucky duck
I used plasti dip for my headlight "eyelids" too. I taped off the headlights for the eyelid, put another piece of tape along the edge so the edge was doubled up with tape. I did that so I could pull the first layer of tape up to get the clean plasti dip edge but then still have tape down for masking when I sprayed primer and body color on the plasti dip after it dried. It came out great and if I ever get tired of the eyelids, I can just peel them up and the paint will flake off with it.
best invention ever i think!.PLASTIC DIP= JUST AWSOME!
This is very true, and I found out the hard way before knowing. I bought the typical Home Depot spray trigger and it barely pressed down the spray button so i couldn't use it. Thank you for offering one that works!
you can also use regular spray paint for the stripe. Since the spray paint is applied on the plastidip it will peal with it if you choose to take it off. just fyi
What I would do is after that heavy first coat, pull the tape them let it dry. If you want another layer, put down some more blue tape, spray heavy, then pull the tape off quickly . Repeat the same process until the right thickness is achieved.
I did the Corvette Grand Sport stripes on my Ford Focus. Came out great. Lasted for 6 months before I took it off to do something different. Also plasti dipped my wheels but I took them off the car. Much easier. I used notecards to separate the rim and tire and sprayed tire shine while I was waiting for the dip to dry. The dip has lasted about 10 months now and still looks great. Tire shine was really nice since I sprayed it while the tire was horizontal.
do a video on dipping emblems on an already dipped car.
IT LOOKS SICK!! CAME OUT PRETTY CLEAN TOO
Ok, I jsut sent an eMail since I have spoke wheels on my Supermoto, but this kind of answered it. Awesome.
I just finished my first dip. I dipped the rising sun on the hood of my red miata. It looks really cool but I goofed up on so many little details :/ Gonna do my best to fix it. Thanks for the video
Rudnik?
you can easily remove specs on unwanted areas with a microfiber cloth
10 years later still car dipping strong !!
yea. if you let it dry like you normally would, when you go to peel the tape off it'll pull the dip up with it. you do the rest of the car like normal, so like example in vid with hood, you spray the main area of the hood first normally, staying away from where your going to do your heavy coat. then once thats finished you go back to the edge and fast coat it then pull tape up and let it dry. if u have streaks, you can then go back and feather fill.
I know this vid is old but thought id share alittle tip. I did a race stripe with the white dip and followed the same method as you would for rims as he suggests not to do cause you want to pull the tape up while its wet. he did in this vid put on 1 mediumish to heavy coat and guessed to the thickness of what might be 4 coats and and didnt run. I decided to try it the other way as a test method like you do rims. I used the same 3m blue pro painters tape and placed it down same way and added newspaper on the outside for overspray cause you will get some. Also I did mine outside in 90 degree weather with about 15 percent humidity and 5 mph wind. I did 4 coats which was almost 1 can. 1st coat was light and 50 percent waited 15 mins, 2nd coat 100 percent coverage waited 45 mins, 3rd coat 100 percent coverage waited 45 mins, 4th and final coat 100 percent coverage waited 1 hour to remove paper and tape. Heres what I ran into with pulling up the tape and by then it was 100 degrees. I had to pull the tape up very slowly and at a 80 degree angle like he did onvthe tape I had a razor knife with me so if any of the dip wanted to peel up I could cut it as I pulled the tape. Yes some of the dip did come up and yes I had to cut it but not all of it. So long as you go very slow and careful with the right angle and have use a razor knife to help aide you the dip peeling up you will be fine. Huge tip if any does peel up just be calm and finish pulling up the tape first. Now you can go back to the peeled up dip and push it back down with light pressure and it will be okay. Remember dip takes in my opinion like 7 days to cure fully and hardens with more time. So be patient if this happens to you. Thank you for making this video. I'm about to receive my shipment supposedly tomorrow took a week but I'm sure it's worth the wait. But I wanted to two tone my bike leaving the gloss black showing and using plastidip on the other parts and and I saw this video just in time. I will be ordering more and going with crazy colors next time. Thanks again
they did that like ten years ago in the movie taxi. red 760li turned into blue unbadged
I learned this the hard way yesterday :(
You should do a video on how to plasti dip flames and stuff.
I've used plasti dip for the handles, rims, mirror caps, hood stripes, and even interior accenting on my car and it has all held up perfectly. Water has no effect on the plasti dip once it's cured to the surface. (I wash the plasti dip areas on the outside of my car with a pressure hose!) It should be able to withstand prety high temperatures as well. I know some guys who put plasti dip on their car's exhausts and it held up fine.
get white plasti dip by the gallon. the Spray gun for even coating ( using the spray can will make your car look shitty ( and the fact that your doing the whole car) you would want even coatings to make it look smooth) and but some clear gloss plasti dip spray cans and get he spray can holders so u can control the spray.
No get your center first like normal dipping, then when you wanna do the edges spray aall 4-5 layers at the same time and quick. if not then the dip will peel with the tape.
A couple friends and I were wondering about sponsors? We know you guys are growing rapidly and honestly we would like to help. We are starting to use the product more everyday. If we could get sponsored we could take DipYourCar to all the Detroit street races and car shows we goto. All of this could possibly brig a buzz enough for a autoshow spot?
I've tried it and it's awesome!!!! You just have to do it right, be patient, I plastidiped my LR3 wheels emblems and side vent and it looks awesome, and also my smart emblems
i did that to the front of my hood and i can say it covered up the chips quit well
Thank you for the responses Fonze! Could I make a request for a How To on larger sections of the car specifically making the hood come out even like we had talked about in another video? I see nothing but plastidip hood removals on youtube because no one can really get them to look decent, if its possible please show us!
Man you've come a long way. Congrats
First time user with plastic tip and I let it dry and then pulled the tape . what a nightmare.. I did not know about pulling a tape wet I'll be honest I didn't read the instructions on the can if there are any, but I watched the videos of putting rally stripes on a car and none of them mentioned pulling a tape when it was wet so thank you very much I'm going to try again
You should make a video on how how to plasti dip a avalanche tailgate letter on back
How do I do another coat of dip if I removed my masking??? :S
This is what im saying! What if im doing the first coat white then a pearlizer coat on top
Thanks for that. I never knew how to paint straight lines.
you sir, are a genius
pretty cool, Im going to dip my rims and the center part of the hood on my metalic black fox body
i would like to thank you for your videos i love plastidip now
i'd say that the line is no different than any other termination point. sure you could peel it from that location. if it really bothers you, there is a clear dip you could probably use to protect it? maybe even just feather the line in that area?
he looks so young lmao hes come a long way
before the 'roids
Yep
plastic dip is awsome!!!!!
Green frog tape does this the best for stripes
omg little FONZIEEEEEE
Thanks man. you helped me to fix my issue with plasti Dip
If you spray a line over your base-color-dip, you have an edge of the line. my question is: if you use a powerwasher on the edge of the line, will it come off? Is it recommended to use a clear spray over the part where you sprayed the line for protection, so it's 1 layer without edges?
@DipYourCar what after the video? Tape exactly to the edge again? I mean because of the other coats!
When I have bubbles, should I just spray some more coats on it or delete it and make it again?
Wondering if afterword you could lay down some pinstriping stick on tape to protect the edge of the plasti dip from peeling up?
Can you made a video of you dipping your rear lights ?
so this might be a good thing to try out some grand sport racing stripes on the vette, without painting.
lowes has black and white but i've never seen any other colors in hardware stores
you sir are a genius. Gonna try that!
I dont know if anyone replied to this yet but, i had put an emblem on my plastidipped bumper with 3m tape and ended up not liking it i was afraid it was going to pull my entire dip of the bumper, was able to remove the emblem, and then remove the 3m tape from the bumper and the plastidip stayed! that was a 4 coat bumper.
He looks a hell alot different now lol
Lets say you wanted the remaining white on the car to be a different colour, are you able to mask off the new black section without pulling it all off when masking tape comes off?
So if i am understanding this product correctly, you can "dip" your car and have it black one week, and the next week, peel it off and have your car its original color the next?
When you doing that Lines and Stripes leike you showing how can i make it than Glossy spray over the hole houd or tape it again an than spry the gloss over it???
I was on your site and noticed that not many people ... (somewhat like no one, I have seen the blue, red (your interior video) and white used but other than that ... ...) are using the other colors offered. Wondering if you could spray anything using those colors (just to show how they come out like how you did with the gold, silver and such (don't have to demo paint, just curious to see how they come out really).
I like to let the coats dry before adding more. So, I would do one coat, let dry, then do another one 15 minutes later. I do anywhere from 5 to 8 coats in this fashion. When I go to peel it off, I have to use a razor blade to cut the plasti-dip. Can I spray on 5-8 coats really fast and then peel the tape off? Or do I have to re-tape for each coat?
Oh dude thanx so much
i did my design before i watched this video so my design peeled with the tape because i let it dry now i know how to do it :D
You should try doing Tribal designs in plasti dip, im doing my hood tomorrow im gunna screw around with it and do some tribal shit
If Im Gonna Do The Entire Hood Center...
Should I Put 1 Heaby Layer On The Center And Than Go To The Edges?
Or Just Make 1 Heavy Layer On The Edges Where The Tape Is And Take It Off And than Make 4-5Layers On The Rest Of The Hood?
if you really wanna let it dry cut it with a razor along the tape before it dries. i did it with mine
what If you are using a few layers while masking? wouldn't the previous dried layers stick to the tape?
Would you also be able to use a paper stencil to create a design?
how can you do that without it eventually rolling from the sides and messing up?
If I were to dip a motorcycle gastank in, let's say, black and I would like to get a red plastidip stripe on it.. How would ik go about doing that? Can I just tape of a patteren on the black surface and red- dip the pattern? If I went to peel it off after the dip is dry would it not come off altogether?
Really like this product and I'm very anxious to five it a go!
Great video Fonz, thanks a million, just what I needed to know!
What if you want to glossify it? Would you re-tape that line next to the original plastidip, the gloss it?
what if you wanted to add blue metalizer on top of the black? would you just spray it over the black while its still wet?
4 to 5 cans if you do around 4 layers on each rim
question! can you spray plastidip ad let it dry overnight then do a second coat the next day?
I do 4 layers of electrical tape on each other.. at every layer of plasti dip 1 remove 1 layer of tape... you can't use normal tape because it would get stuck to each other and you would rip it off at once..
Whats cheaper? Plastidip or matte wrap?
And what is/are the advantage(s) of either of them?
Exactly what I needed. Thanks!
True but Menards only has the black Plasti Dip :P (at least the ones by my place)
Can you apply tape to a dipped car and peel the tape off easily without pulling the existing dip off? I wasn't sure if your car in the video was dipped white or if it was a painted surface. Thanks.
This was my first thought when i watched the first PlastiDip Your Car video. lol
How would this work if say I wanted to paint a bright color on a dark car? Like for instance I want to paint a blue or green stripe on my black pearl Dodge Magnum.
But if I want to plasti-dip my hood like that, dont i have to spray the whole hood area before taking off the tape? that's too long though, isnt it?
i dipped my whole car already. can i put a stripe on an already dipped car.? will teh masking tape pull up the dip that is already on the car
i tried doing this to the rims on my camaro and it keeps wanting to come off in the corners what am i doing wrong is it the heat it is about 80 degrees in the garage where i am painting them
What about making body molds on the side of my tahoe? Is it going to drip if I do it that way? If I don't do it that way and evenly coat it, how would I peel it?
gets HD camera, : records in the dark. logic. perfected.
Now the only idea i had for this is, Would it be possible to tape off your hood like that, completely cover it then before pulling the tape off using the plasti-dip fix kit to reliquify it then pull the tape off so you wouldnt have to avoid any portion while painting?
they did that in the movie taxi
What about when washing it. Will it tare apart?
@DipYourCarcom Subscribed and reposted on FB! Really curious to see if you can make it even, we did my friends civic hood and fenders and were going to do the rest but the front dried terribly so we just gave up and peeled it.
Fonzie! if i do this wont the plasti dip peel off after a short while because its not buried under an edge?
Thanks for the rips bro. Im about to do my a4 hood.
I've tries this technique twice and both times I never got a clean line.. Thank God its not permanent!
Great TIP! That's exactelly what I was looking for! tks!
hey love the videos, but if im doing a whole car in just cans how will it come out!? Its being painted over primer! please respond!
So I can dip my whole truck and say if i don't like it just peel it off.. lol such a scary idea
My chrome 20" wheels were black for a month... now they're chrome again =p
fairly easy to remove. if you plan on doing your entire car, depending on size, but average 4 door car is about 3 gallons. 4 gallons for a radical color change. 5+ for an SUV. if your talking spray cans? i'd suggest not going that route. one guy i know tried and the count was over 14 cans (at 7$ a pop that gets expensive quick) and it still didnt cover properly and looked like ass.
Also if I were to black out my chrome bumper would you suggested flat black? Would that match the rest of the bumper? All they had at home depot was black. No flat or gloss. Your thoughts?
Next thing you need apart from the HD Camera is a light on your face or stand under a light as the camera is struggling to see your face in the dark
