    I'm confident in saying I think every xs650 owner has gone through the same headaches your having one time or another. Good thing the xs is easy to tinker with.

      Very forgiving bike these. Maybe that why they age so well and so many people use them as bobbers and chopper bases.

    Well worth doing the valves, if one side wasn't opening enough then of course that cylinder won't be working efficiently.
    Did the manual say turn it 360 more for second set of valves as on my cb250 twin the pistons moved up and down at the same time so you did all the valves at once, if that makes sense.
    I wouldn't worry to much about the popping Nat, them kinds of open pipes will always have popping. My harley is crazy for it.
    If you want perfection in would be airbox and original pipes.
    Great work on that bike Nat. Its stunning

      Truth be told mate, they were all out a bit but the left was worse.
      Yes the book says 360 and you can feel the valves slacken when in compression on each side.
      I think that the popping is easing out. I just think that the old boy complains when you mess about with him!
      It will be interesting to redo the compression test to see if anything has changed. I doubt that it will make much difference but I am intrigued.

      @@NatsNackersYard it will definitely be higher Nat as the valves will now fully be doing their job. Look forward to that one.
      Have you cleaned the pickup that powers the spark? I think on your bike its a points system? This will help with starting aswell

      @@motorcyclerescuer I opened the cover where the pints should be like they are on Brodie’s. It’s empty!

      @@NatsNackersYard i think the points are on the left side? Although it looked as though it was using a stator which I assume is a upgrade? I'm only guessing. If its a stator I'm not sure how long they have been around. Weird

      No points on this one mate. I even checked under both side covers when I couldn’t see them under the left cover!

    Gotta ask...was the engine cold when you adjusted the valves?...

      @NatsNackersYard  4 года назад +2

      Yes mate. My chores took about an hour and half so it was stone cold as per the manual.

      The beauty of editing. The best part of a days worth of on and off tinkering in about 30 minutes!
