Did you re-install the 4 spacer springs that keep the inner pipe from contacting the exhaust pipe? The instructions specifically mention the importance of this: "It will be necessary to place the spacer springs - located on the inner pipe - accordingly so that the inner and outer pipes do not touch at any point. This could create hot spots which will impede the cooler fresh air that is coming back down the outer pipe to supply the flame."

That furnace addition to the canopy is setting you on track for the waht would be in my mind the ultimate build! With the addition of Alu-s new 13 gallon flat tank, feeding into a pump heater into the Alu shower cube, and the the fridge slide out with the stove underneath, the vaccume sealing toilet thing, and the walls for the 270 degree awning, solar arrays on the canopy roof etc and that that would be an amazing build. Then just figuring some ac solution for summer camping in southern Utah. Guess one can't have it all. or maybe it is possible. Anyways, thanks for sharing!
Dickinson makes nice stuff! I installed their solid fuel heater (woodstove) version in my box truck as a backup to my Olympia wave 3 and it's awesome to have a fire when the sun goes down and temps drop
@@warrenmullett The wood stove would provide enough heat. A friend had one on his sailboat. The issue is you MUST refuel constantly, as in every few minutes. The small pieces of wood and tiny fire box makes for a very short burn. Some folks use charcoal BBQ briquets to get a longer burn.
I put one in my van ,, Pro - puts out dry heat....Con - kicked out alot of carbonmonoxide, there defentally not as sealed carbonmonoxide proof as they claim to be, Nope....WHAT I Did - 1. I added extra window wood stove door fiberglass rope stuffing it in the glass window frame to seal better, it needed it. 2. Got more fiberglass wood stove door rope and wrapped it around the pipe were the pipe and top of stove connect sealing the small gaps and cracks then put and tightened 2 big steal hose clamps on it, I also did that at the other end were pipe connects into the roof cap. 3. made sure I had a good fresh air circulation going through the van. Note : make sure your air circulation isn't pulling the exaust back into the van (not dificult to do) ... Yea! put some thought into it, think about changing wind directions and such..4. I adjusted the door for tightness to get the best seal, thatsxa bit tideious, that takes plenty of testing and readjusting to get it best adjusted...Good luck.... Ps. side note - just get a cheap Chinese desel heater, youtube has all the ways to best modify them to perfection, there cheap and alot better heating and no holes needed to drill in your roof... my friendly advise, yea! save the $500 to $700 to put twords solar.

Honestly, a day and 1/2 I’d you have everything you need. Running the wire for power to the fan. Running the gas lines. Installing the propane tank are all extra components to the complete install. I’d say if you could have someone do it in 10 hrs they’re moving and have done it several times.
It’s called the Easy Hitch Step and it is awesome - with some few modifications and a lot of maintenance. The problem lies in the hinge, it’ll freeze up and won’t budge even if you keep it oiled. It’s so bad now I had to remove it. Ideally they would drilled a grease zerk into it so you could keep it lubed; that might fix it. Next, it needs a locking pin that you can tighten up to secure it to the inside wall of the receiver. I welded a nut in the inside of it so I can anchor it in place. All said, it’s burley and I’ve wacked it a few times hard on rocks with out any damage but they really do need address these few fixes to make it usable longer term.

Ya I was wondering the same thing? Thats why. They have that second channel to allow for air intake. I too am curious. Also how is the heat from “propane” I was considering the Marine wood burning Dickinson Stove as many state that propane creates lots of condensation vs wood is very dry heat. Idk hope someone can shed some light on these points. Definitely a sweet install! 👍
Propane burns in the furnace, just like an furnace and radiates out. There is an internal fan and we have secondary fans to circulate in the camper. There is no off gas in the camper. All by product of burning propane is exhaust to the exterior of the camper. The only condensation you get it is due to thermal bridging and you'll get that from any heat source.

is there a fan on that fireplace or is it just radiant heat? The canopy area is pretty small. Why disassemble the dual purpose exhaust/air supply cap, now the combustion air has to come from inside the canopy.

There is a fan on the furnace and we installed two secondary fans in the camper to move more air on cool and warm nights. The cap needs to be disassembled to install on the replacement pipe from GP Factor. You could probably rig up something else but this kit requires these steps.
Looks like the fresh make up air is still able to be drawn from the pipe. As you can see the bent /angled pipes ID is bigger than the OD of the exhaust.
I'm curious about the regulator, I just bought the same set up, but on the Dickinson website they say to use the 189$ two stage regulator. My local store asked there supplier,and I ended up with the one you have for 25$. I wonder if the stove performs differently with the more expensive regulator???
A lot! On low the first weekend sleeping at 28F through the night it was 76F up top in the camper without the fan on. It’s gonna be quite handy this winter and beyond.
Is it just a heater? I think the best way to heat-up your camper is diesel heater. Less cost, more effective, low fuel consumption. For your camper you will spend maximum 1 liter of diesel for night with -15C outside.
On low, this furnace we estimate that this furnace will run at least 5 evenings on an 11lbs. propane tank. At $1.50 per pound of propane, its a hell of a lot cheaper and that kind of efficiency I'm not "losing any sleep." Cheers mate!
Zero issue as of yet. The burning of propane is locked inside a sealed compartment in this furnace and exhausted through the exterior pipe. By exhausting the furnace you are venting the by product of propane which is water vapor outside of the camper and mitigating condensation build up inside. Adversely, we tested a Mr. Heater Buddy heater in a camper last year. It was a controlled environment and we ran the heater only for experimental purposes. After running the heater for 30 mins we noticed significant water vapor build up in the camper as a result. The conclusion was that a lack of proper exhaustion and an open flame contributed to condensation build up. All said, use caution with a portable heater without proper ventilation and tested/functioning CO alarm. Even though some of those heaters do have CO cut offs, it can fail or be too late before the heater automatically cuts off.

I just bought the P9000 and I'm doing a very similar install through the wall in my custom fiberglass pop up camper. i'm very curious about the performance with the after market piping work. Have you guys had any carbon build up issues? I'll be doing a similar exhaust pipe time chimney. I really appreciated seeing this video to help conceptualize my install.

No way, last time I had a aftermarket rear bumper and got rear ended it totaled the truck. I'd rather crunch the rear end or lose the OEM bumper than lose the truck.
@@jasonspecht827 those do the same thing, they are designed to total the truck. If you look at the frame it is designed to bend if rear-ended. The center section of the bumper is already metal, just the ends are plastic, will bend anyway, ive seen it over and over, designed to bend, you can even see the spot where they designed it to bend....gov regulation.

Can't remember. We've never had a problem with excess heat building up on the outer pipe.
Can you give an update on how its been working. Is there enough surface area inside for it to work? How about safety? Is the ceiling getting too hot?

There’s only a flame a direct heat with the Dickinson. No other parts to repair or replace. It’s simple.

Just the top hat. This fireplace is made for sailboats and it’s a retrofit kit for the Canopy Camper

It doesn’t get that hot. Keep in mind this is a furnace, not an open fire. It’s radiant heat.

is there any concern with exhaust fumes entering when the tent is up since the pipe terminates so low?
Nope. The exhaust is vented to outside air. We have installed a CO detector in the camper and tent as a precaution.
i think diesel heater is better, much more efficient than propane and easier to setup. fireplace is more for novelty.

I would not recomend cutting the Inner pipe first as you risk cutting it too short… it’s better to do it when it’s installed I’m my opinion.

Maybe. There's a lot of work that went into design and fabricating the brackets and pipe to fit this kit perfectly but it all started as a DIY!
