Hey brother I have an 05 Altima & replaced both converters with aftermarket units. Still got the p0420 code. I watched this video & followed your instructions & it worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch.
This worked perfectly for my '03 camry 2.4L (barely fits, btw - very tight fit next to oil pan). 420 CEL never came back on and my cat is hollowed out completely. Glad I went this route.
I have a 2013 ford f150 platinum, i took a exhaust pipe and drilled 1/4 inch holes all over the pipe. I then cut open my cat cleaned it out then put the pipe into the cat. Closed the cat welded it closed. And put the original sensor back in. I live in Massachusetts and i have passed inspections for the last three years.
We had emissions in my county for a few years but now they just do safety inspections. Even for our safety inspections they do visual checks for the stock cat and if you have an aftermarket cat they go to the scan tool to make sure the sensor is reporting correctly. This is just for safety so they more strict on the emissions side. That o2 sensor extender is a dead giveaway that you're trying to bypass the system. When I had to do emissions they would print out a report on how efficient my cat was, they would actually stick a sensor in the exhaust and the state decided if it would pass or fail. That emissions readiness is a good tool to have in the torque app, most states allow you to have one of those systems not ready. Usually you can get the system to ready up with a short drive with your gas tank between 1/4 and 3/4. If you try it on a full tank most of the time it takes a lot longer or the evap doesn't ready up.
These work on early OBD2 systems. I can't remember what year, but the later systems where programmed to detect the operation of the downstream sensor, during warmup. Long story short. They work on early systems but ,not on the newer ones.
wished you would have showed the graphing after repair. always before and after is showing a result, i tried them a couple times on a couple 06 and 07 vehs and light would still come on.the idea is to keep those o2s at a steady 600 to700 mv no switching when graphing they still switched but not as bad but enough to throw a code. could u show them after ur repair in graph mode would be nice.

Where do you buy these "extenders" ? Is it only for Ford vehicles? Where do I buy it?
@@dolfrobz8457 I bought mine on Walmart.com, but there are many online sellers with them. They are for any make/model
@@PhillipsVision thank you so much, I appreciate it!
What if you don't have that extention?
Where do I purchase?
They are everywhere online. I got mine at Walmart.com
great thank you
after market they work for a while but get clogged fast it happened to me
I know about these and I know they sell them but I’m pretty sure these are illegal to use nationwide and the fines are pretty hefty for having them on your car so I would be careful with these in use, I’m not even sure how they didn’t catch this inspection stations are trained to look for these and any other illegal exhaust modifications. Look not trying to argue with you your explanation was great but any consumer or I’ve seen some shops do this should be aware that the fine is a big one for using these.
Only a state inspection would look for these while they look underneath, emission inspections only check the ECU for codes.
No emissions laws in Africa so I am happy to use it
I prefer the hollow out the cat method with the proper resistor in the wire out of sight.

Africa is a continent.
We have it in my country.
@@Eye-it-azz I live in South Africa but I have travelled in Africa so I mean the continent. I have not come across a country in Africa that requires annual emissions tests. What country are you from that has these annual emissions tests?
I have no codes but put a cheap catalytic converter on. It has a lean smell cause of the 02 port being cheap. Will this help my smell/lean or rich problem? Will it trick the computer to make it a hotter fuel air ratio? Thanks for any help

Check fuel trims with scanner
Easy said then done. I just couldnt open the stuck sensor. Mine broke off the weld and then same happened with the other one😅
You only about a 1" to 2" stand off. Anything to tall you will get false readings your car will have other issues.
No it will not. The downstream sensor has nothing to do with anything regarding how the engine is running.
Can't afford $2,000 so I put aftermarket Cadillac converters on and the code came back so I'm going to try this

It’s nice having a half a million dollar work Bench 👍
Some vehicles will give a code for the rear oxygen sensor low circuit with this spacer.
Does that what i5 means? I bought a 02 Silverado from a co worker & the cat was stolen so the owner straight piped it. With the OBD scanner it says low circuit. But i don’t believe it has a spacer on it.
@@SemperShock If the cat was stolen , the wiring was cut or damaged on that sensor.
So remember, these won’t fix your cats. If your cats are clogged you will need to change them ( some cars have more than one) so keep an eye on your mpgs and how dark the exhaust comes out. Also smelly smog is a dead giveaway
They don't work. I tried it. I replaced the catalytic converter to solve the P0420.
It's a Hit or miss, I've had one work on my car
Yeah, I gotta take my car to the emissions today I got a ChevroletAVEO five years five years are longer fissions because it all P0 420 code. I just put one of them on my car now for the last three days. It’s been lights been off so today I got to go to the missions. I hope it passes.
did it pass?
Didn't work for me bought a walmart 1 that i didnt have to drill even had a mesh wire filter
Drill a half inch hole in the first one the one the o2 sensor goes into. leave the second ones hole alone stuff steel wool inside the one that screws into the 02 port and it will work on any vehicle new or old
Huh 🤔?
Down stream, the one after the Cat.
Only need to do that one.
This did not work on my ‘03 Denali. 😔
I find out these only work on older cars that are using conventional oxygen sensors and not afr sensors
Use anti-seize on the extender as well, yes?
Olso with the old plug ignition when you change them, breaking the with part of the plug and take the least the metal part, use like this part on the video

If the state really cared about emissions they would limit commercial air flights, commercial cow farms and greedy factory emissions these count for the majority of co2 otherwise thanks for the video

Scratching my head as to what to try next. Thinking of the resistor fix but there are mixed results with that one too..🤬 The truck runs great otherwise and gets over 20 MPG, just hate the CEL..

Will the extension also help with misfire & rough idle?
@@oldschoolrican no, that may require spark plugs and/or wires, ignition coil packs to be replaced. You need to use a scan tool to see what cylinder(s) are misfiring first so you don’t throw money at it
