Wonderful! And I HAVE heard Helene before. A TOTALLY different kind of performance, though. She had Sir Tom Jones as a guest on her show a few years ago and they sang a duet together. The song? A reprise of "Sex Bomb," one of Tom's most popular hits internationally. What a voice she has. She's truly a superstar, and a stunningly beautiful lady. And Tom at 82 is as charismatic and vocally amazing as ever. His 2021 album made No.1 on the U.K. album charts.
I’m in tears listening to this! Amazing Grace was played on the bagpipes at my uncle’s funeral when I was 23. It was the first time I’d heard it this way. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever heard til now. This was beautiful!

Just a little background to her and this performance. I know where you've read that about her. English wikipedia site, haven't you? Yes, Helene was born in Russia. Her ancestors were Germans who emigrated to Russia around 1800. Look up Russia Germans, if you want to. It was Catherine the Great, German born Russian Empress who invited Germans to come and settle in Russia to modernize the country. Helene's grandparents were born in German settlements at the Black Sea in todays Ukraine, so they were Black Sea Germans, the other big group of so called Russia Germans, even if they are/were from places that aren't Russia anymore today, being Wolga Germans. When the 3rd Reich attacked the Soviet Union all Germans living in the Soviet Union were deported to different places far from their home. Helene's grandparents were brought to Siberia where they had to live for nearly half a century before they were finally allowed to leave and so her family moved back to Germany in 1988 when Helene was 3 years old. Many times now she has debunked that her "true" name is Jelena Petrowna Fischer or something like that. She says that this a just an invention from the press to create a headline or a story. Because she is of German descend her true name is her name, Helene Fischer, and it's not some stage name to appear more German. Although Helene Fischer might be a stage name by now because she most likely is secretly married now to the father of her daughter and therefore her "true" name now would be Helene Seitel. Maybe she already is for years now, actually. Who knows.
A lot of Russians think that she is a Russian though because she was born in Russia when in reality she is just a German, born in Russia, but they seem to have their own sight of view. In the first half of her career she had short medleys of a few Russian songs in her concerts, only 10 minutes or so in 90 or 120 or even more minutes of the whole concert. But she hasn't done so since 2013 and I believe from what I see that the Russians think that she is still doing this when it never was more than a little gimmick maybe. They see way too much in that. That's why there are a lot of Russians in her comments.
To try to keep it short although it's longer than I intended already she has become Germany's biggest star maybe ever and was without a doubt the most successful singer in Germany in the last decade. Die Helene Fischer Show aired from 2011-2019 on the 25th December but wasn't live. The recording took place around 2-3 weeks before that. Because of the nature of the show and unfortunately how German TV works, music shows on public broadcasters, most of the show actually is playback, as this performance was.
Because of Corona and her pregnancy there wasn't another show until now although many of her fans think that last year it would have been possible if people in charge really would have wanted to. Maybe this year there will be her 10th show finally as in an interview she said that she doesn't think that this is the end of the show.
She also made a great Duet version with Luis Fonsi - both Echame la Culpa and Despacito during one of her last shows! Check it out.

Helene Fischer is a german “Schlager” star. Not my music really but she is really popular in Germany :)
If you would see what she is doing today I think calling her still a Schlager singer is quite a stretch. If her recent songs would have been performed by a different singer and maybe in English even, the fact that the song is in German alone doesn't make a song a Schlager though, I don't think a lot of people would call this Schlager anymore. It's just something in peoples' mind that she is a Schlager singer and all she does is Schlager. It's a thing of the past actually.
