The variety of vans and seeing how much they go for is really good.
It's good to hear what people think but you are actually showing it for real.
High value for people looking to buy vans. It's a great reference.
The extra information on the screen about how much they go for is great as well.

Vans are fetching silly money because companies like Amazon and Evri tell their self employed drivers that they can earn over £1000 a week, so they overpay for a van. After a few weeks of doing it they realize that doing over 200 deliveries a day is not a good lifestyle choice and sleep, mental health and family suffer accordingly. So they give it up and sell the van on to the next unsuspecting victim. I know this because I was a multi-drop driver for DPD for many years, employed and not owner driver btw, but I saw this all the time with the self employed drivers

Vans have always fetched high prices at auction when you add in auction fees and VAT to keep out private buyers. Dealers buy enough to pay minute fees on each particular vehicle.

if you are looking for van auctions, 10am to 4pm ON THURSDAYS, huge outdoor compound.
Last time I visited, there were TWO auctions operating at the same time - so much stock to sell, about a year ago.

When the Vivaro was downsized to 1.6CDTi I think the regular version was given a fancier turbo than the 1.9, and then there was of course the BiTurbo version. I know there's no replacement for displacement, but modern turbo technology does help.

Electric vans do make sense when mostly used on a single large site. I've seen them used for security or maintenance purposes on university campuses and large manufacturing sites. They don't have to do many miles and they can have dedicated charging spots.

When I bought my first van in 1999 it was a daihatsu hi-jet. 1995. (N87 ENX) I hated it after 6 months and sold it on after a year. Hated being blown around and only front disk brakes and poor visability. My first car was a Volvo 740 GLE estate from 1996. Paid 425.00 for it in 2002 and kept it for 5 years. Loved the RWD volvo's. Next up a Corolla Diesel new in France. Then a 1989 Volvo 240GLT auto estate in late 2009 for £350. Daily and only car for 8 years and after nearly 10 years and adding 72,000 miles sold for £500 in 2018 with 234,000 miles. No major issues and all reliable.
In 2017 bought a 1996 Volvo 940 LPT auto estate as my work vehicle like the 240 and paid £250 for it. Again reliable, easy to maintain and recently I fixed the AC. Old RWD Volvo's have served me well. Never had any issues with the redblock engines or AW70/ gearbox.

The Mk8 Transit Custom is still a "real Transit", it's just a seperation of the front wheel drive versions of the Transit into their own body styling and model range, rather than keeping "matching" looks in the FWD and RWD versions like with the MK6/Mk7. The just "Transit" is is the rear-wheel drive version of the Mk8 Transit. Only the Focus-based Transit Connect and Fiesta-based Transit Courier aren't "real Transits".

Loved that. I LOVE vehicle auctions. Dad used to take us to auction to buy our cars when we were in our teens.. So, I love auctions, particularly classic ones like ACA and CCA ETC. It's weird watching cars dad had as 'bangers,' now going through auctions as restored classics and doing money dad would never dream of paying!!! I am a 'commercial vehicle' enthusiast myself. so was very interested in this. I am severely disabled, so can't drive at all. I have the Peugeot Partner Tepee adapted for wheelchairs, which my carers drive. I've had two over an eleven year period. They have served me very well indeed. Next one will be the small Transit Custom Independence. The floorplan on the Peugeots has changed, so I can't get in them anymore. (I'm 5" 11 and sit tall in my chair) So, we'll see how it goes. I love all your vlogs. Hope your new garage/showroom is still going OK! I watch all your Vlogs! They are so interesting. Keep up the good work!

Biggest worry with buying commercials at auction....... previous services, how many, how often, and by whom. I used to work for a company that had Merc Sprinters, now they were sometimes good, sometimes terrible - - unlimited warranty for 3 years, but one month after the warranty ran out on one of them, it went bang -- new engine even though it was serviced every 20k miles. Another one had over 430000 on it when it went for 1st MOT and it could easily sit at 70 going uphill.
As with buying any vehicle, do your homework, stick to your budget, and don't get carried away with paying too much (transit van)

Used to go to a fleet sale some years back at Whitchurch- as they were often 6yrs old or thereabouts... and at least were serviced ! Of course, there were less "dangers" back then- as vans were simpler and cheaper to put right !

@@we-are-electric1445 If you think electric is going to work for you, go for it but I think 90% of users still find the down sides of EV ownership outweigh the benefits and that will affect you when you come to sell it.
I am on my second Renault Trafic, and am I completely happy? Not 100% no, my 2016 1.6 blew a Turbo at 30K but with a 4 year warranty it was covered. I now have a late 2019 2 Litre Sportnav, nice to drive and all the bells and whistles, has it been problem free? No. They moved the battery from the footwell into the engine bay but reduced its capacity and it was a long argument to get that replaced under warranty. I have also had an issue with Add Blue sensors just out of warranty, cost £300 and two days off work. They reduced the warranty to three years on the SL29 version although the same van in Nissan/Fiat branding may well be a better warranty, it's worth checking.
I usually replace my van when the warranty runs out but at the moment (Nov 23) the new prices are crazy, I am looking at a 10K price hike on my previous van for the same spec! so for now I am sitting tight and bought an engine warranty to cover any failures, this was not too expensive but you need to check that it covers turbo failure, as that is a pricey job.
My dilemma now is, are the prices of new vans going to come down? my gut feeling is no, is it worth selling my low mileage pretty tidy van now or do I wait? which way are second hand prices going? my guess would be up, due to the lack of new vans entering the market place. It is picking the time where the cost of new and second hand are at their closest and if I knew that I would be selling vans for a living not doing electrical work.

My 20 year old Combo 1.7 Di has now done 470,000 miles.
I looked into buying an EV van to replace my Combo van.
I hired a Nissan eNV200 EV van. For a Month to see how it was. I gave it back after 2 weeks.
Once I had loaded it with all the kit for a days work that range dropped to just 50 miles!
I couldnt do a days work without at least a midday recharge. I was charging the thing typically 3 times a day!
It was costing me appointments because of the dismal range and time it took to charge the thing and waiting in charge queues.
I live in a city with a population of around 320,000 people.
The closest public charge point is 5 miles away. There is 2 public charge points one was taped off and not working. The next nearest charge point is 15 miles across the city!
So when I combine the dismal range, the time to drive to a charge point, the time it takes to charge the thing. I cannot pay with cash. I hate card payments.
From my experience. It was ok to drive but. They are not fit for purpose. So glad I didnt buy one.
I'll keep the combo until it dies.

I am trying to get my head round what is happening in the van world, hence watching this video.
I am not surprised the second hand van market is so expensive at the moment, what surprises me more is it is not even more expensive.
I bought a brand new Renault Trafic Sport in 2020, just before lock down and paid 19k including the Vat, the same spec van now is 25K plus the vat, the best part of 10K more expensive!
Am I going to renew my van, not at the moment, are new van prices going to come down? not by much I am guessing.
I am in a good place at the moment as my mileage is pretty low and can afford to wait but the price I will get for my well looked after van will still leave me with a 12 to 14K shortfall on a replacement. As a sole trader that is a big bill for me to swallow.

Have to say the battery degradation hasn’t really come to pass on a lot of the EV cars I’ve had and only the very first leaf’s that are now quite old have started to degrade and you can actually have the battery’s returned and many are now guaranteed for several years. The NV200 at that range would have a niche purpose such as in city deliveries where there is an air quality zone perhaps? But not sure I would want an EV van at this point.

    • @BRED510
      @BRED510 Год назад +2

@carukchannel the CRV is a Hybrid isn't it, not a full EV? Hybrids generally only have a 50 mile battery only range.
Early Leafs had poor cooling systems (air cooled, not liquid cooled) and very poor battery management systems which is why they degraded so badly. They are a bad example of an EV. Look at a Tesla of the same age, the majority have over 95% battery SOH, a Tesla battery (as are most other EV's now) are supposedly good for 1,000,000 miles. I know of many EV's with over 100k plus miles on and battery health is hardly diminished. The battery thing is a fallacy, plus most manufacturers offer an 8yr warranty on the battery anyway.

Lee, your comments on pure EVs, especially regarding age related range degradation, need a much wider audience. the usability of a van with a 60 mile range is very limited; you certainly won't see white-van-man in one!
we need to find an energy source for our vehicles which is reliable, sustainable and long lasting. pure EVs aren't the answer though they do have some very useful technologies. I quite like the idea of keeping liquid fuels (no need to build new infrastructure, no range anxiety or range degradation), hydrogen-EVs and synthetic fueled hybrids may be the longer-term answer.

I agree I hope we can keep ICE going with a alternative fuel as there is no cheaper way to build a vehicle than with a ICE, the issue is emissions. If a fuel was found tomorrow to run ICE with zero or near zero emissions the EVs are pretty much finished as a long term solution.
