I have never been stung and normally don’t even worry about carpenter bees because I know they can’t really sting you BUT THIS YEAR they’re literally everywhere and it’s hard to even exit the outside porch without getting them all fussy so I’m def going to try this thanks!
I made 6 traps and have them hanging at various locations around my house and garage. They are working but the bees also like to return to the previous holes they drilled in the house and garage in years past. Also to keep the bees from flying back out of the traps put a few drops of dish soap in the bottom of the plastic jars. It gets on the carpenter bees wings and prevents them from flying back out.
Very nice and thank you for the tips.
Put liquidnail in the unwanted holed, they wont go back to that hole anymore
Thanks for sharing Bruce. Even though I do not do homestead projects, I enjoy watching videos of those that do! Hope the bees find your hotels! 🐝
Thank you for coming to check out the channel. I hope you enjoy the videos as I work to improve the homestead and build this second YT channel. I do appreciate it. No bees yet, it's been raining a lot the since I built the traps. Go figure. :)
I have tried a lot of these carpentry bee traps... bees on my property must be intelligent because this one nor glass bottle trap will work. I even chalked their holes, they ate through chalk and created 2 new holes on my porch beside the trap. I have had both traps on my porch for a week.
I make them with 4x4 post, but everything else is pretty much the same. Great job
How about fire ants ??
Any ideas about those ??
Living here in NE PA i battle these all summer ,best thing i found so far is Delta dust applied with a puffer bottle.
They sure are destructive little buggers. Thanks for the Delta dust tip, I may have a look at that depending on how these traps work out. Take care :)
Thanks i will try this
Most welcome 😊 it works.
did you ever post the follow-up video? if so, I don't see it...
No, I never did post a follow up video. The traps did work and worked quite well.
I make two today it came ok could be better if i have the right tools
Nice! I hope they take care of your problem.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thanks
Im thinking you could have avoided all the predrilling and screws for the sides. The top and bottom pieces screwed on would hold it all together!
That's probably true Terry, thanks for the tip.
Like you, I hate to kill any bees. We are in a situation with more and more honey bees dying off. They aren't the only pollenators so I try not to kill any. However, like with your place, these guys are wreaking havoc on my porch columns. I am afraid that they are going to become structurally compromised. My neighbor had his place sprayed for them because there was so many of them that the traps weren't enough. Maybe I need to do the same.
I don't hate bees and I understand how important they are but the carpenter bees are very destructive. By the way, I haven't caught anything with my traps yet. It's mostly been raining since I built them and people say it can take a couple of weeks so time will tell. I'll keep you posted on the results if any.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I hope you didn't think that I was trying to berate you for killing the carpenter bees. I agree that they are terribly destructive and we need to get rid of them. I hope you will catch them and get rid of them.
Oh no, I didn't think that at all.
I had mine sprayed as well this year. I noticed that LARGE woodpecker been ripping long tears getting the larva's out. If spray is what it takes then so be it; need my shelter to last a little longer. Did have traps but just a few would fly in.
you never posted a follow up if it worked
You're right, no follow up video but they did work.
I NEVER KNEW THAT THERE WAS CARPENTER BEES
Yes there is :)
Glue instead screws
That’s an option
Brad nail is another option. Quick and clean
