Rick Alan Ross is a private consultant, lecturer, and cult intervention specialist. He began his work as an anti-cult activist and community organizer in 1982.

Ross has lectured at more than 30 universities and colleges including the University of Chicago, Dickinson College, Carnegie Mellon, Baylor, Wuhan University of China, Assumption University of Thailand and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He has also been published within peer-reviewed academic journals on the topic of cults.
Regarding his cult intervention work, Ross states that historically about 75 percent of the people that he conducts an intervention with decide to leave the group by the end of such an effort. He has done interventions across the United States and around the world. Ross did two successful interventions with the notorious Branch Davidians led by self-styled messiah David Koresh.

I can see so much pain behind the smiles of Bent's victims. Especially the young boy. His anguish and loneliness is written all over his face, no matter how he might try and hide it. And the scene where Bent discusses having sex with his own son's wife is excruciating to watch. Bent's son is literally doubled over in emotional agony.

Hard to tell what any of them have been up to. Michael was paroled a few years ago. Far as I know he still lives in their community, but is allowed minimal contact with the adults and no contact with the children as conditions of his parole. To my knowledge there have been no follow-up documentaries of the group since and the latest articles I can find are from 2016, the year he was released.

The lone exception to this that I can think of would be Heaven's Gate. They actually viewed sex as a base human pleasure, and since they didn't see themselves as humans they were very strict on the celibacy. Even their leader was. Several members even underwent voluntary castration.
I admire this documentary's approach in many ways, and it surely wasn't easy to produce. But this team found more than enough evidence to suggest sexual abuse of minors, and in my opinion their duty was to call in law enforcement.

What did he do to deserve it? He was gay. He’d never even engaged in any sexual activity, he wrote about it at length in a journal and (since JW’s are snoopy pieces of shit) his parents found his diary, frantically sought out an Elder for council and the very next day he was disfellowshipped and kicked out of his home. I didn’t even know you COULD be disfellowshipped for WRITING about a sexual desire, especially since said friend was pretty well respected up until that point. What a fucked up cult.
