Those disaster movies were great for first dates. Nothing to argue about afterwards and not too awkwardly romantic or sexy. But for that reason, girls didn't like them as much as guys.
Young Frankenstein... best casting for any movie ever. Repeated viewings only make the laughter more intense just at the mere sight of Wilder and Feldman (and others) on the screen. The funny lines in the script only get funnier and funnier with more viewings. Definition of a comedy classic.

I had a great Christmas that year …. things I remember - that Ronco commercial, Cats in the Cradle and Billy Swann, the Steelers starting their first SB playoff run with Curt Gowdy on the call for NBC - and new Marvel comics in my Christmas stocking from Dad. I believe Mego action figures debuted about this time as well. ‘74 was a fun year.
24 and moved to AZ from Ohio. 2 losers with nothing driving in an old Cadillac with all our worldly belongings. To many drugs and young and stupid but things actually worked out for both of us!😊
Wow, so many great memories at "Shakey's" Pizza. We used to head to the local Shakey's after every Jr High football game - most of the team, cheerleaders, my friends, we all used to hang out there after the game.

George Clooney has a strong resemblance to his dad, Nick, who's still alive today at 90. 11:10 - Pre-HAPPY DAYS "Karate Kid" Pat Morita. He had made some MASH appearances by this time.
Another gem from the past Fred! The Godfather part II and the Towering Inferno were the mega hits that year. And the Dodge Charger from that boat, to a Hemi muscle car!

Young Frankenstein one of the funniest movies ever! I wish towering inferno only was a 2 hour movie, i was 16 and got in trouble for getting home late, we simply saw a 4 hour movie, we thought it was 2 hours. My dad thought we were drinking!

Hi, Fred: Every time I hear the beginning of these videos, I think the hymn, This Is My Father's World is coming on. Here it is 2024, I'm 68 and I've never seen The Godfather. Maybe I should do something about that (or not). Young Frankenstein...mmmm, Teri Garr; I always liked her. Shakey's pizza; never heard of it. That reminded me though; the pizza you can buy take-out today isn't bad but it is nothing like the loaded pizzas we could get anywhere when I was a teenager. When you got three toppings, they didn't reduce the quantity of each topping by two thirds, they gave you the full amount and you had to be careful NOT to get too many toppings. I'd give an arm and a leg just to have one pizza from Roberto's Pizza that disappeared some time in the 80s. It would probably be pretty stale by now though. It would have to be a left arm and a right leg though. I wouldn't want to get off balance and when it comes to pizza, I'm right handed. I went to our new Burger King with a friend after losing our old Burger King for about thirty years. I ordered a coffee and it's the kind of deal where they put all the ingredients in it so I asked for a 'regular' and they had to ask me what that consisted of. I told them one sugar and a couple creams. Without exaggeration, it was about seven eighths cream to one eighth coffee. They hadn't perfected their understanding of coffee yet and I had quite the time getting it right when THEY are the ones to do it. Thanks, Fred for adding a bit of water to my dried out noodle. There are still 44 Shakey's Pizza locations open in Southern California according to their website with one in Oroville in Northern CA and two in Washington State. .And that's a yes on Pat Morita and a *Not Even Close* for Paul Sorvino if you mean the guy driving the car. In 1974 Paul Sorvino was appearing in movies, not car commercials.
Funny and strange how advertising says so much about a country, like a snapshot of where things were at the time. In 1974 I was 10 years old and remember things seemed quite down, like we lost the war in Vietnam, Nixon lied got caught and resigned, and the economy was in the crapper. Eventually it took disco and then Reagan to pull us out of that mini-depression and at least pretend America was great again, or just smoke weed and do coke so you can escape. For me it was more about listening to Casey Kasem American Top 40 every Sunday morning and wondering how to make Cathy Romero or Allison Rideout or Lori O'Malley like me. I still had to share a room with my older brother, which sucked until 1975 when my parents decided to add two more rooms to the house and it all changed for the better, but in '74 I was still stuck being a repressed confused kid.
ALL? Believe me, I've never had the power to "do" anything to the country. However, there are some -- boomers, pre-boomers and even post-boomers -- who have damaged and continue to damage the country and the world. Don't lump us all together, please.

Funny and strange how advertising says so much about a country, like a snapshot of where things were at the time. In 1974 I was 10 years old and remember things seemed quite down, like we lost the war in Vietnam, Nixon lied got caught and resigned, and the economy was in the crapper. Eventually it took disco and then Reagan to pull us out of that mini-depression and at least pretend America was great again, or just smoke weed and do coke so you can escape. For me it was more about listening to Casey Kasem American Top 40 every Sunday morning and wondering how to make Cathy Romero or Allison Rideout or Lori O'Malley like me. I still had to share a room with my older brother, which sucked until 1975 when my parents decided to add two more rooms to the house and it all changed for the better, but in '74 I was still stuck being a repressed confused kid.
