    I just wanted to let you know, I got the machine after watching your review. I’ll say this, You we’re dead on about everything you said. Even when you replied to my last comment about “lining” with it. It is the best cartridge liner I’ve ever used. Looking forward to using this for a while and growing with it. This is all of Cheyenne’s machines out into one in my opinion. Thanks again.

    Your reviews are very helpful..I am tattooing since 20 years and use rotaries since 10 years and switched to pens some month ago.. As a Rotary collector i buy a lot of machines and love to hear reviews from other tattooers..I really love the new swashdrive brush ..It is amazing,also with a 10 watts brushless motor and maybe the best rotary i ever had for lining..You should give it a try ..Sorry for my bad english but i am from germany..

Thank you so much for this review! I'll probably stick with my hawk pen for the time being and see how things settle with the nova once the hype dies down. It's really saddening that they didn't update the mono plug - I've had the same issues with mine.

    I picked one up as well and agree with everything you said, the hit doesn't feel as rigid as the hawk thunder, but feels more versatile and easy to control, really digging it so far. Between the sol nova, and my inkjecta I feel like I have a really solid combo.

    I think that the grommet is definitely a better thing to be tighter. I’ve had the bag slip back behind my grip with the hawk pen and then I need to re-do the whole thing. Really annoying.

      Stephen Neff agreed, unfortunately it’s not any tighter it’s just poorly accessible now, I’ve stopped using disposables and just started wrapping the entire machine because of it.

    Anthony, thanks for all of your videos, truly generous of you! My Thunder just died after 3.5 years of daily running. Would you mind letting me know how solid of a hit you get with this machine? I love the Thunders power, speed, and versatility, but was turned off of the Hawk Pen because I heard is was less punchy and prone to breaks. With that new motor, would you say that the Sol is more similar to the Thunder than the Hawk? I guess time will tell how that spring holds up.

  • @admateo772
    @admateo772 5 лет назад

    Excellent reviews man, very helpful. I love my hawk pen so much...but it already had to be sent in once, 6 months in. I switched to xion for 7 months and recently came back to my hawk because tattooing wasn’t nearly as fun with the xion, and wow there is just such a huge difference. I feel like the hawk was made for me. I am torn between buying another hawk pen so I can keep the older one as my backup, knowing one will go down or going ahead and getting the sol nova and hoping it possibly won’t have the same problems and have to be sent in for repair at all, while still having a hawk pen as a back up. I also saw in comments above you mentioned it has a slightly harder hit for lining, which I actually like.
    You say you think this machine will likely still have the same issues and need repair.. have you experienced any problems as of yet or heard of anyone having problems like the pens with the motor or the phono plug part, needing repairs? Basically my question is, should I consider this as an alternative to the pen that could potentially not need repairs, or should I just know both will need repairs and get another pen, and save 200 bucks. Thanks a bunch!

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  5 лет назад +2

      AD Mateo thanks man! Ok so it sounds like you’re pretty much the same as me in terms of preference so I think I can answer your question. I am annoyed that Cheyenne didn’t improve the mono connection on the machine but ultimately I’ve put hundreds of hours on my sol nova and haven’t had any significant issues with performance, I do think that over time it will prove a weak point but to me that’s something I can accept knowing that I’ll probably put 1500+ hours on the machine without needing repairs (judging by the same issues presenting with the hawk pen). Now onto performance, the sol nova is the superior machine imo, in fact it may be the best machine I’ve ever used and I do feel I’m at my best working with it, if I go back to the hawk pen, which I love, I feel slower and have to work harder for my saturation and blends, don’t get me wrong I can still comfortably tattoo with the hawk pen but with the sol nova I feel I have a bit of an edge. My only issue with the sol nova is the size and shape, it’s not as easy to hold for me, I often hold the hawk pen closer to the mono cord connection more like a paint brush but that’s not comfortable with the sol nova. It’s a minor thing and that’s it! So all that said I would absolutely recommend you grab the sol nova, it’s as good as it gets in my opinion and is proving itself to be the most reliable machine Cheyenne has produced to date, I’ve recommended the machine a lot and have yet to have anyone message me disappointed!

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  5 лет назад

      Joe Grim if you like the thunder you’ll definitely like the sol nova in my opinion, similar solid hit (maybe a little more solid) with capabilities to run faster, it lines better, packs colour extremely well and shades smooth. It should be a really easy transition for you and I’d imagine you’ll be really happy with the upgrade! Hope that helps

    Hi dude, been watching a few of your videos and thanks for the insight. What would you say has been the best for black and grey work? I rarely do other styles and want the best for that style. I have been using a Xion for a while and lately I feel the same as you that it is pretty spongey and feel as though it is slowing me down. Thinking of getting a bishop fantom to try, I’ve used the sol nova and felt that was pretty soft as well although my tattoo came out really nice at the end.

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  5 лет назад +1

      Adamadmucx for my money not much beats the sol nova for softness and perfect hit, I think as an all around machine it beats out the fantom. The bishop is great for black and grey realism but falls a little short when you push it with heavier linework or solid colour. I’m working on a review for the new Cheyenne machines as well so that might be something to check out as well.

    • @Adtatt
      @Adtatt 5 лет назад

      Intrepid Tattoo thanks for the reply dude. I did have a sol nova but traded it on for a xion and some cash. I think it was the carts I was using at the time which made me think the sol nova was too soft so I’ll have to try it again at some point. Do you plan to get the bishop wand? That’s coming out on June 17th. I definitely think machines with “give” end up failing, any machine I have used with it end up feeling weak and squishy at some point even with the hardness set to maximumZ

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  5 лет назад +1

      Adamadmucx yes 100% to the bishop but I assume like most other bishop machines it’ll be better suited to b&g so I’ll be using something else for colour, I’ve been using the sol terra and I’m really liking it despite the ridiculous price tag and a couple other quirks

    • @Adtatt
      @Adtatt 5 лет назад

      Intrepid Tattoo Awesome, glad to hear it dude! I’ve heard a few people say they aren’t as good as the thunder/spirit. All down to personal preference of course. Looking forward to the review though.
      I think I’m just looking to have a few dedicated machines for each style because when I’ve used “all in one” sort of machines such as a Xion they slow me down/fail in one way or another. I’ve started using ez revolution carts now as well and they are the best I’ve ever used and pretty much on par with kwadron.

    Just put barrier film up to between the o rings and your clip or sleeve up about half the machine under the barrier film.

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  6 лет назад

      Tyler Hood Theres a few different ways to wrap it, I find your method ends up either with the barrier film ripping or slipping out (I adjust throw a lot while I’m working) I’m more irritated that the method the majority of tattooers and I used and definitely the safest just based on fewer pieces to fail, wasn’t considered in the design of the pen. Considering they post pics and videos of their sponsored artists using machines unwrapped or poorly wrapped all the time on Instagram I’m not shocked they’re not concerned with proper cleanliness.

    Proprietary plug, no adjustment for stroke, which is critical if you do any serious black and grey. Pain in the ass Maintenence, overpriced. The FK IRONS Spektra puts this machine to shame. That’s my opinion. No doubt Cheyenne paved the way for pen machines, but they got left behind by refusing to conform to uniformity with plugs and ease of Maintenence. Not forgetting their cartridges have suffered severely in the QC. It’s a shame they didn’t take more time with this machine. This could have became the standard in wireless tattooing. Cheers for your opinions mate! Bless you bro.

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  4 года назад +1

      AshAlyn Music agree to disagree I guess, there’s definitely some things that I don’t like about this particular machine but there’s no comparison in terms of functionality to anything FK has ever made. On speed alone Cheyenne always has the edge for me. And as far as QC I completely disagree, I run them daily and again they’re head and shoulders above most other brands, unfortunately the price reflects that. And the new sol nova unlimited is by far the best machine I’ve ever used, full stop. Fk isn’t even a competitor for me it’s that much better. Thanks for watching and for the input always good to have differing opinions because we all work so differently!!

      Dan Trueblood if it works for you then that’s awesome! To me both the hawkpen and sol nova are far superior machines to the xion, they preform better and last longer. On the other hand I completely agree, the X-RD is absolutely the best power supply on the market, no question

    • @1Dantrn
      @1Dantrn 6 лет назад +1

      Intrepid Tattoo correct it's an apple vs Samsung thing. Everyone has their preference. I've had a hawk pen for years and it's definitely not that I don't like it. I actually also have a much cheaper AZ supreme adjustable pen that I like just as well as the hawk. A big selling point for me on Fk is being made and serviced here in the states. Not to mention the forthcoming accessories like disposable grips and a wireless battery pack. I'm also not a fan of the hawk cord. My buddy just got a new hawk machine and within 3 months the cord was frayed and tearing away from the adapter. He was seeking out a replacement since it was new but I don't think he was ever able to get one. No one wants a new pen with electrical tape wrapped around the cord. Granted that's the only time I've ever seen this personally. I still don't line with the xion. But I think a lot of that is I haven't found any smaller lining cartridges that I like. And I'm spoiled with black claw Hella tight liners. So I use neo tats vivace machine to line with which I absolutely love for lining.

      Denis Bondarenko thanks for watching! So even though the sol nova isn’t perfect and isn’t much of an update from the hawk pen I feel that it’s still a better machine than the xion, the xion was very hyped up and had an army of sponsored/pro team artists telling us how amazing it was but I think it’s now becoming clear that the machine has some major issues, I gave up using mine and actually sold one of my two. The hawk pen and sol Nova are far superior to the xion in my opinion.

      Intrepid Tattoo it was out of warranty a year after I got it and they suck balls with support. So I modded mine. Works awesome as a backup

      One of their sponsored artists did the same thing and was very public about it. Also German. Like you say, their support is trash. So are FK irons though.

    How does it compare to the bishop fantom?

    • @anthonyjenkins3335
      @anthonyjenkins3335  6 лет назад

      khouri Edwards it’s a quicker more solid hit than the bishop, both great machines in my opinion but I do prefer the ease of a pen over having to use a grip

    Hey, could you tell me if this one lines better then the fk irons xion? I am using a dan kubin for lining and the xion for shading. I am looking for a good backup shader machine for the xion that is also totally able to pull good single pass lines with 7rl in case my dan kubin needs to be sent in.

      Ace Adam for me yes is does, I found the xion on the slow side for my linework. To me, the point of a pen style rotary is to do everything well, I feel that both the Cheyenne pens do just that, they line better than a coil, shade softer than any other rotary I’ve ever used and pack colour just as solid as you could want and do it all without the need for adjusting give or stroke length which makes them easy to use and intuitive. If you’re willing to put the time in to learn how to properly use a pen be-it the xion, Cheyenne or any other high quality pen I firmly believe this style of machine will make any tattooer better and can be used for literally every task in tattooing.

      Requiem Tattoo thank you for your quick reply you earned another subscriber for sure. I might get the sol nova then and maybe keep the xion as a backup. I tried working with the xion for everything for 5 month and i could use it for everything but when i picked up a dan kubin for lining it was just worlds difference so i fear i will never be ble to let go of that beast. But if the sol nova can do everything else and line in case it needs to i am happy. Also as i am from germany i might get quicker customer service then with the xion.
      Anyway as i dont have any chayenne product, the pen or sol nova, wich one should i get?

    Hummingbird short with Swiss motor is just as good I have them both and it's the same just saying I wanted to put them to the test and in my opinion it's the same guys I have been running the hummingbird for 10 hours straight and it's dope and the cost is 160 I am just saying it's the same for real no bullshit guys.

      Denny & Christina Urie I wouldn’t give my money to a company that steals the r&d of legitimate machine producers and copies their machines, we don’t accept that when an artist is ripping of and copying a design so why would we encourage it from a shitty interloper business......just sayin.

    I bought the Elite Revo V3 instead, less than half the price and same motor/drive. The Sol Nova is not worth $800, you're paying for them to fly artists all over and give people free stuff.

      DeathCloak333 I’m no fan of the sponsor shit, that’s the reason I started this channel in the first place, I was sick of hearing “reviews” from idiots that had been given the machine so they could talk about how good it is regardless of how much of a piece of crap it is. That said, don’t kid yourself man the elite is not the same machine, it’s a complete knock off with a motor that Cheyenne was using almost 10 years ago and is currently not using in the sol nova. I hate the cost, I hate the “pro team” bullshit that is consumers pay for but a year from now with hundreds of hours on each machine I’d be betting on my Cheyenne to be still running while yours is a dud sitting in you drawer collecting dust. My clients don’t pay me to save money on my equipment, I’d rather have the best I can get not a deal.
