    Nice Elizabeth Cotten cover. I usually always finger pick that song and railroad bill first on every acoustic i grab. I just ordered a harley benton crl 15m an hour ago and I can’t wait to pluck it when it arrives.

    I'm pretty sure the saddle is at the bridge and is compensated for the B string. The nut is up on the neck. Others might correct me if Im wrong.

    • @CoolspyGaming
      @CoolspyGaming 7 лет назад

      Here in sweden the guitarword "nut" and the guitarword "bridge" are "översadel" and "sadel" which would be "oversaddle" and "saddle" in directly translated english.
      So maybe theres similar words in germany and they've mixed the two words up somehow. I know I do sometimes when I talk about guitars in swedish.

    That helps a lot, thanks! I used the Auto Align by Sound Radix to fix the phase and it really helped with the definition and focus of the sound. I was surprised how much it helped because the phase wasn't too far off but it made a really big difference. It is still a little weighted to one side, but I think I may be too close. How far away were the mics in your recording? It was hard to tell from the vid. And are you high passing the side mics at all? If so what freq/slope? Thanks so much! Your guitar sound in this video has become one of my references for acoustic guitar. Great job.

  • @TheGuardy

    I actually bought one a few days ago and I could not be happier. It's a real beauty. She may not sound as rich and full as that really expensive Lakewood Eike has, but she has exactly that warm, earthy, charming sound that I was looking for. And don't get me wrong, the CLA-15M doesn't sound bad by any means.
    Seems to be quite playable, too. I've played almost solely nylon strings up to this point (and, very occasionally, my dad's seagull, but I hate the bloody thing), played for around three-ish hours the day I got this thing and was still able to use my fingers the day after. Kind of. Which I used to get some more hours of practice in. Because this guitar is really fun to play.
    If she stands the test of time, I'll probably play this guitar for many years to come.

      This guitar can be compared with martin 00015m in someway? I am waiting that arrives in my home in Italy..can i expect a guitar with a high value? I love the sound of mahogani !

    • @TheGuardy
      @TheGuardy 7 лет назад

      I've never heard one of the mahogany Martins in person, but going by the recordings I've heard, the Martin 000-15M sounds a lot warmer and fuller than the CLA-15M, which sounds... well, it's hard to describe how it sounds. A bit more harsh, maybe, but not in a bad way, necessarily. It's an interesting sound with a bit of a twang, and I really like it.
      They are comparable in that they both have a warm, earthy sound, but the way in which they exhibit the sound is quite different.
      I like the CLA-15M a lot, though. I was ready and willing to pick a substantially more expensive guitar (my upper limit was around 400€), but this one was the guitar I genuinely liked the most. The low price was really more of a bonus.

The guitar has a pickup. This took 3 days to arrive at my house in England from Germany. This was double boxed and arrived safe and sound.
      The company who own Harley Benton are called Thomman and they are incredibly helpful and reliable.
      I can honestly tell you this guitar is beautifully made with a great action and set up. It is very close to my Taylor in quality, sound, playability and looks. The Taylor cost me £600. • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  9 лет назад

      OK, the way it works...
      Cardioid Mic toward guitar.
      Figure 8 Mic sideways.
      In the DAW, duplicate the Figure 8 mono track and pan one to the left and one to the right. Phase reverse one of the two. Cardioid Mic panned center.
      If you now have a signal that's too heavy on one side, you have phase issues with the middle mic. Either use a phase correction tool like the the one from IBP (or the UAD plugin of it) or move the center track slightly, by a few samples, to correct the phase. Now it should be centered.
      I use a Plugin Alliance plugin that does all of this for me, the bx Digital V2... great EQ and has all the M/S stuff built in, so all I do is pan Cardioid left and Figure 8 right and the plugin does the rest.
      Hope this helps !

      The First one is a Dreadnought, the other 2 are Auditorium. Dread is a rounder sound (great for strumming), auditorium has more definition (for fingerstyle for example, is great).
      16S has a brighter sound and 15M has a darker sound. Also a dreadnought can be a problem if you're short, for people with small body, auditorium is better option. It all depends on what you want to play, your style to play and, not so important IMO, your body type.

    Danke für den Clip. Die Lakewood klingt natürlich druckvoller und dynamischer als die HB, aber die HB ist eben 16x (!) billiger. Das geht wahrscheinlich nur mit Dumpinglöhnen in Asien. Ich hoffe, dass die dortigen Arbeitsbedingungen noch menschenwürdig sind. Könntet ihr da mal bei Thomann nachfragen?
    Dein Englisch, HP, ist für einen Nicht-Muttersprachler richtig gut. Deine Stimme ist im Vergleich zur Gitarre aber zu laut aufgenommen, das nervt etwas.

      +Jochen Brand Ich hab vor einigen Wochen Thomann in Treppendorf besucht und unter anderem dieses Schätzchen in der Hand gehabt. Ich bin kein Experte was Akkus angeht aber eine Kundin sprach mich an (hatte ein schwarzes Hemd an) weil sie dachte ich gehör zum Team und wir schauten uns gemeinsam 4-5 Modelle an. Die CLA15-M war auch mein Favorit.
      Zur Fertigung hat uns ein Mitarbeiter gezwitschert, dass die Akustik Modelle von Yamaha produziert werden.
      Man sollte also mal nach deren Arbeitsbedingungen schauen.

      Meine clg 414 ce nt kommt laut Bonedo aus China von Saein, die produzieren auch fuer Ibanez, Ephiphone und andere Marken im niedrigeren Preissegment.Viele Sachen sind ja heute automatisiert und CNC Fraesen koennen auch die bedienen, wohl ein Grund fuer den Preis.

    At this point, the only thing Harley Benton is missing, is a gypsy jazz guitar

      There was actually about 10 years ago for about 200 euros. It's a D-hole 14th fret guitar with solid Sitka top and laminated back and sides, ebony bridge and fingerboard, maple neck. And I have one! It's a copy of DellArte hommage and it still plays and sounds amazing! I do play gypsy jazz and my friend says it sounds better than Gitan. If they have an oval hole I'd buy it straight away. :)

    I hate when the guitars are not properly tuned. They are all tuned nearly a half tone lower ‼️ fuck man I hate that but otherwise you are a funny guy that makes a lot of interesting videos 👍😁

    Hey Henning,
    ich brauch deinen Rat. Seit längerem spiel ich mit dem Gedanken, mir endlich eine gute Akustikgitarre zu kaufen (habe bisher nur 'ne alte, schon sehr kaputte Hopf).
    Jetzt suche ich eine Gitarre, mit der man ab und an mal Straßenmusik (auch ohne Verstärker) machen kann, also sollte sie laut genug sein, sie sollte einen warmen Sound haben, und auch in den tiefen Lagen noch gut klingen. Außerdem wäre mit eine relativ kompakte Gitarre am liebsten (etwa so wie die Martin LX1e).
    Nach etwas umschauen hab ich 2 Gitarren gefunden, die mir sehr gut gefallen:
    - Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy Flat Top
    -Harley Benton CLA-15M (also die hier :D)
    Welche würdest du mir empfehlen?
    Oder hast du noch einen besseren Vorschlag? Ich würde maximal 220€ ausgeben.
    Danke schonmal! :)
    Und wie immer tolles Video!

      *Korrektion: - Harley Benton CLA-15MCE (die hat noch einen Tonabnehmer)
      Und ich spiel hauptsächlich, schlagend mit den Fingern oder Zupfend. So das wär's dann glaube ich haha.

    The dude really knows how to play an acoustic guitar. But he doesn't know what a Nut and Saddle are :D Nut is that piece between the fingerboard and the headstock. The Saddle is that flat piece that sits in a slot on the bridge (where the strings attach to the soundboard of the guitar). Nut and Saddle are the 2 points that the strings sit on and produce the sound. Same as with electric guitars, but the saddle are usually very different from the different types of guitars.

    The Harley Benton's sound great for what they are but they just can't hold up in comparison to a Lakewood or similar guitar made with high quality wood and construction. It's all about the wood and construction when it comes to acoustics.
    My serious acoustics are for recording, paying gigs and writing.
    But you need this kind of guitar just for fun if you do a lot of jamming with friends, play at the beach, when camping or at parties etc. If it gets broken or the neck warps too badly to be fixed who cares? Just buy another one. And at this price? I'd buy two just to have a spare.
    Nice guitar and a great playing example. Thumbs up!

      Keep telling yourself that wood quality and construction methods have no real bearing on the tone of an acoustic guitar if that's what you want to believe.
      Good for you if you're happy.
